2005 Annual General Meeting - Nov. 20, 2005 Pacific Pinto Horse Association

Attending: Bernice Whiting, Deborah McKay, Jan Myren, Bev Braddick, Marianne Warland, Karin Ahlgren, Shelley Fraser, Cynthia Pelletier Meeting was held at Timms community Center, Langley, BC. Called to order Karin Ahlgren at 1:10 p.m.Karin read the minutes of the 2004 AGM minutes. A typo in the $ amount of the Futurity bank account was corrected to read $10,169.53. A further correction was made to the Champion of Champions points awarded to also include Saddle type, Mini A and Mini B. Jan Myren moved to accept the minutes as corrected; Deb. M. seconded; passed. Correspondence: Marianne W. received a thank-you note from Rick and Cricket Hoar regard-ing the Pinto National show. PtHA was contacted to find out our current balance: We do not owe any funds to them at this time.Shelley Fraser has not yet sent a card to Rick Houske (regarding his son who is recover-ing from a serious car accident.) Treasurers Report: Jenny L. has requested a cheque for $115.00 in lieu of the cooler which was incorrectly awarded to someone else at the national show. The cheque covers $90 for the cooler and $25 for the embroidery. Deb McKay will deliver the cheque today. the Canadian bank account is $1465.25; the US account is $5661.59. The Area show worked well financially with the Paint/Pinto combination. Jennifer King, Marianne Warland and Jan Myren were thanked for coordinating the combining of the breeds. Roy Aitken (Paint club president) would like to proceed with a similar format for the 2006 show. Marianne will be the liason again. The awards banquet realized a small profit, $221.00, in spite of the restaurant raising the price to $25.00. The extra costs were covered by the amount raised in the silent auction, gift cards and hockey pool.Discussion of how the silent auction and gift cards were presented. It was suggested that being organized with it a bit earlier in the day (very hurried set-up) would help quite a bit. However, Cynthia did a great job with all the items available. Bernice noted that there was no annual profit and loss statement presented at the AGM. This is likely due to recent change in the treasurer, and Karin and Shelley will work on it. Jan Myren brought up getting some income from a Casino night. First, we would need the Profit and Loss statement. Also we would need to have an application form, with suggested distribution of funds. She said we could use the funds for paying workers at our shows, to the amount of $10.00 per helper (?per hour?) at specifically named shows (i.e. National, Area) this is something we can look at after we have the 2005 P & L statement. Futurity: Shelley does not have the current bank statements but reported the Canadian account has $120.00 and the US Account has ~ 634.35. Shelley will be receiving both the Canadian and US bank account statements in the future. There is a replacement cheque to Gossett for $253 to be paid. PtHA has been paid their fees, the club has been paid back for all necessary futurity expenses paid by the club. The ribbons cost about $379.06. There was some discussion of having hunters (sport horse) included in our futurity with stakes classes. It was decided this would be a lot of extra work, and these horses would not contrib-ute to the show financially. Marianne W moved to accept the treasurers report; Deb. M seconded; passed.

Just a Horse! From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a

horse," or, "that's a lot of money for just a horse". They don't understand the dis-tance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a horse." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a horse." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a horse," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a horse," and in those days

of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a horse," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a

friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a

horse" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes

and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts

from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps

me from being … … … … ."just a woman/man."… … … … . So the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse" just smile, because they

Show committee: Marianne Warland Marianne reported that Janice has offered the use of her facility for a couple of schooling shows in Feb. and March 2006. The club would pay Pair-A-Dice for arena rental if Janice wishes. There was a suggestion that some of the income from the first show could go towards Sector Director Shelley Fraser's trip to the annual PtHA convention. Discussion of other ways of helping with travel expenses: Cynthia suggested a club air-miles card - people can donate their air miles to the club account, Jan M suggested a company may be interested in sponsoring by donating air miles. Extra air miles could also be used to pay for high point awards. Treasurer - Janice Burns (contacted by telephone) - Shelley Fraser to help if necessary Secretary - Bernice Whiting Directors: Cynthia Pelletier, Shelley Fraser. Suggested Heather Grant, Brandy Salmond and Cheryl Birch as other members who may be directors. Marianne to contact these members. Bev Braddick will not be participating in the club next year, but asked about how contact-ing members by email worked. It was very effective for notifying members of meetings, newsletter, etc. Bernice will continue with this next year. Jan Myren was asked to help with guidance on a sponsorship drive. Bernice Whiting will do membership and High Point again. Show Committee Chairman - Marianne Warland Futurity Chairman - Shelley Fraser and helper so she can promote and make it grow more. Bev Braddick thanked the club for their work and efforts over the year in presenting shows, running the club, awards, etc. Next meeting will be Thursday Jan. 12, at Pair A Dice Acres Meetings to bo on the second Thursday of the month: - Feb 9, March 9... Bernice W moved to adjourn at 3:25 pm.
