It is hard to believe that we are in the midst of our third nine weeks of school. What a thrill it is to be part of such an awesome school as we see the con-struction and academic improvements daily. At Kathleen High School “Knowledge + Hard work = Success.” “Knowledge + Hard work = Success.” “Knowledge + Hard work = Success.” “Knowledge + Hard work = Success.” I am extremely proud of our class of 2012 as they put forth their maximum effort on the FCAT writes. I want to wish our students success on their upcoming state assessments and encourage every one to do their very best. As a community stakeholder and a body of educators we must compel our students to pursue those rigorous courses as they enroll for next year’s classes. Please remind your child that daily attendance is vital to their overall success as they invest in themselves by seeking a high school diploma. Listed below are some important assessment dates.
We are very excited to inform our wonderful community of the progress of the new construction buildings. The new buildings estimated dates of completion are as follows:
• Music/ Fine Arts Building – 8/2010
• Athletic Field House – 7/2010
• Media Center / Administration & Guidance – 9/2010
• New Cafeteria – 10/2010 I want to express my appreciation to our superintendent, our school board member, Mrs. Fields, our community stakeholders, and our facilities depart-ment for the vast improvements we will experience around our campus over the next two years. I am very proud of the improvements that we are constantly observing from our students, teachers, and staff mem-bers. I am inspired as together we are making a difference in the lives of the students. It is a great day to be a “Red It is a great day to be a “Red It is a great day to be a “Red It is a great day to be a “Red Devil!”Devil!”Devil!”Devil!” Cecil McClellan Jr., Principal

KHS Administrators—100 Mile Bicycle Trip
K H S
Did you know the KHS administrative staff rode 100 miles on their bikes? “Our administration and staff owed our students 100 miles on a bicycle for the 2nd largest gains in the district,” said Mr. McClellan. This was accomplished by our lowest quartile in reading. They rode their bikes 50 miles on the Withla-coochee State Trail. They peddled from the Dade City trail head north to the Dunnellon trail head. This was approximately 50 miles per person. The group traveled a combined 374 miles. The crew packed lots of water and lunch and spent the entire day peddling their hearts out on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Way to Go KHS Administrators—-It Truly Was a Great Day to Be a Red Devil! “We are proud of our students,” said Mr. McClellan.

Last month, all 9th grade Fire Academy students had the opportunity to meet and listen to Mr. Reggie Dabbs. Mr. Dabbs talked to our students in a humorous style about choices each of them have when faced with drugs, alcohol, suicide, etc. Mr. Dabbs got in their faces and told them that he never smoked a cigarette, never did drugs, never drank alcohol, because he chose not to. He assured them that they can make the same kinds of choices. Mr. Dabbs told our students about family and how thankful they should be that they have someone who cares about them. He talked to them about dating relationships. Most of all, Reggie drove home the fact that "You can never change your past, but you can change your future!" Mr. Dabbs encouraged our students to meet their prob-lems head-on and overcome them. The students were engaged and inspired by his speech. Mr. Dabbs lives in Ft. Myers, Florida with his wife Michele and their son Dominic. Thank you Mr. Dabbs for your inspiration and words of wisdom for our students at Kathleen High!

On Tuesday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m., 30 students from CFAA joined 11 schools across 10 states in a live webcast conversation with the JOIDES Resolution lo-cated in the Arctic ocean just off the coast of Antarc-tica. “JOIDES” stands for Joint Oceanographic Institu-tions for Deep Earth Sampling. The name reflects the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program's (IODP) commit-ment to the science of exploring paleoclimate changes in order to better understand the links between the Super Green House World and the Ice House World and how ecosystems will respond to future global warming. Joining the students live were Dr. Jean Peart the Director of the Deep Earth Academy in Wash-ington and Dr. Stephen Pekar, a resident scientist on the floating laboratory JOIDES Resolution. Via the technology, the stu-dents were treated to a
