Where are the 45% of our members who don’t participate in the work and mission of First (Scots)? Are they on the golf course? Did you know that the Church is sponsoring a golf tournament for the benefit of the youth ministries? Are they playing bridge? Did you know that a bridge group meets every Monday afternoon in Room 203? You can even take lessons on Wednesday at 4:30 pm. Are they at supper club? Did you know that First (Scots) has several groups that meet for food and fellowship each month? There is so much more going on at First (Scots); worship, fellowship, teaching, learning, studying, mission work, community involvement, music. There is something for everyone. Please support these vital programs in your financial commitment and participation. We could do so much if everyone pitched in. Make your commitment today...FOR GOD’S SAKE ... 1731 Legacy Society Only one in eight Presbyterian remembers the Church in his/her will, at First (Scots) even fewer do. Why? Probably because the Church hasn’t encouraged it. We hope to change that. On February 13th , First (Scots) kicked off a campaign to raise awareness of Planned Giving in our church life. Planned Giving offers opportunities beyond annual giving that can benefit both the giver now and the church in years to come. We invite you to prayerfully consider joining the 1731 Legacy Society by making a gift in your estate of $5,000 or more. A member who joins by December 31, 2011 will be considered a Charter Member. It is through the process of our own estate planning that we can make a truly lasting impact on the mission of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. Further information is available from the church office (722-8882) or Danya Jordan (813-6398) [email protected] or Bill Prewitt (722-3331) [email protected].

Easter Decorations Order Form If you would like to remember a loved one or honor someone with a donation to the sanctuary Easter decorations, please complete this form and return it along with your check of $15 per memorial/honorarium to the church office by Monday, April 11th. The Easter lilies

will be used during the Easter season and may be taken home after the 11:15 am service on Sunday, April 24th. Please remember to print clearly the names you would like to be listed in the bulletin and mark your check "Easter Decorations”.

Cookies for Kairos It’s that time again! Please consider providing cookies for the March 10-13 retreat at Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution. Home baked cookies are much appreciated, but store-bought cookies will also be welcomed. Large

bags of cheese balls, trail mix, or salty treats such as chips, pretzels, and nuts are also needed. Please do not supply individually packaged items – everything must be opened and repackaged before being transported into the prison so large bags are easier to manage. Cash donations to cover the expenses of the retreat are also appreciated. Donations can be left in Molly Wier Hall as early as March 6 but no later than 12 noon on March 9, 2011. For more information or questions, contact Karen Stanley at [email protected] or 849-7715.

THE SENTINEL

WORLD MISSIONS God’s Littlest Lambs

Currently 68 children from newborn to age 17 live in the LAMB Children's home on an arid hilltop about 30 miles south of Tegucigalpa. They have come in many different ways - mostly abused and neglected, some terribly malnourished, some with developmental disabilities...all unwanted. Here they eat, sleep, learn, sing, play and come to understand how precious they are to their Heavenly Father. The First (Scots) congregation has developed a close relationship with these children and with the LAMB organization that provides them a home: six residential cottages, a school, a large kitchen and laundry, two gardens, two playgrounds, and a church. Our next congregational mission will leave for Honduras on March 5, with a larger youth mission trip planned in July. Although rich in their Father's love, the physical needs of God’s Littlest Lambs are great. Any donations received prior to March 4 will travel to Honduras with the Adult mission group; subsequent donations will be carried by the youth. A box has been placed in the Lilly Chapel. 1) Underwear for boys, girls and teenagers (especially small sizes). 2) Sweat pants and sweaters. 3) Boys and girls shoes, including sports shoes and flip flops. 4) Other clothing for children and teenagers. 5) Rubber balls and any kind of toy for blind children. 6) Toys to be given at birthdays for boys and girls. 7) Crib bedding, including blankets and bumper pads. 8) Other bedding – sheets and blankets for single beds. 9) Small towels, washcloths. 10) School supplies: Notebooks, pencils, pens, sharpeners, erasers, 11) Reading books in Spanish.

First (Scots) Poly Tartan Material: There is a bolt of the church tartan in the office which is available to committee chairpersons for use for church purposes, i.e. bookmarks for confirmands, burp cloths for church family newborns, etc. The cloth must be cut by a member of the staff or a member of the Tartan Committee. A record of use is being maintained for inventory purposes. Call Deanna Barteet at 722-8882. For congregation members the cloth can be purchased on line at http://thescottishweaver.com/firstscots/. Woolen material is also available on line and, of course, ties scarves, rosettes, serapes, etc. can be purchased.

THE PRAYER JOURNEY: A Personal Encounter With Jesus Christ The Prayer Journey is a Walk of Prayer and is a simple, but powerful, form of engagement with God that combines verses of Scripture with movement in a way similar to the Stations of the Cross. The key is asking the Holy Spirit to lead you. The Walk has proven to be a wonderful way for people to encounter Jesus Christ and grow in prayer. Please join us the weekend of April 15-17th for this special time set aside for First (Scots) Presbyterian’s Prayer Journey: The Walk of Encounter: GROWING IN CHRIST. The Journey will be Friday evening, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning. Watch for details in upcoming bulletins and the April Sentinel. Questions: please call Ginny Good: 795-5822.

Revelation 22:14: “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.”

MARCH

February was a busy month for the preschool and Kindergarten. On Friday, February 4th, the school recognized our Dads with a Father’s Day Celebration. The activities started with classroom visitation followed by a special program presented by the children and directed by Joyce Remsburg. Everyone then enjoyed a delicious lunch together. On the following Tuesday, the children sang for the residents of the Presbyterian Home and the Presbyterian Women of the Church at a luncheon sponsored by the latter. The audience was delighted with the performance of the children. The energy was quite high as the children celebrated Valentine’s Day with class parties and the sharing of valentines. After enjoying Winter Break, the children returned to school and began preparations for our upcoming Grandparents & Special Friends Day. In addition to our traditional program of learning, the school is integrating technology into our curriculum through the use of our new Smart Board. The children love it! We hope everyone enjoys the children’s artwork in the hall and classrooms. The children work very hard on these projects. Many thanks to everyone at First (Scots) for our new space. It is great!
