BROWARDPort Everglades Cruise Ship Terminal Renovation Projects Three South Florida artists have been selected to design, fabricate

and install functionally-integrated artworks for three cruise ship terminals that are under renovation at Port Everglades.

Carlos Alvarez, from Miami, will design the ceramic and steel artwork that will line the highly-visible walls of the elevator core for Terminal 26; Mark Fuller from West Pam Beach will create a mobile of suspended fish sculptures that visually move in the desired direction of the passenger traffic flow within Terminal 19; and Xavier Cortada, also from Miami, will design monumental scale starfish to be suspended from grids attached to the ceiling in Terminal 2’s main waiting room.

Cortada is also creating a glass and ceramic mural with a pelican sculpture that will engage embarking passengers.

These terminals (T-2, T-19 and T-26) will serve embarking cruise ship passengers; and it is intended that these art projects will have a functional aspect such as wayfinding within the terminal, and help to promote tourism by improving the cruise passenger experience.

DELRAY BEACH1) The City of Delray Beach has proposed raiding the public art fund (currently at $123,000) in order to help

close a $3.2 million reduction in revenue resulting from the deletion of a planned Fire Service Fee. The Planning and Zoning Board, to which such an amendment is submitted for a recommendation, refused to approve the recommendation. The amendment, however, had its first reading on March 6. It will have a public hearing on March 20.

2) Since February 2011, through an inter-local agreement between the City of Delray Beach and Palm Beach the County, Elayna Toby Singer, the County’s Public Art Administrator, has been providing public art

administration services to the City of Delray Beach. Since September 2011 Elayna has facilitated an “Internal Master Planning” effort for Delray which involved strategic conversations with stakeholders to address public art priorities outlined in the City and CRA’s master, strategic and cultural plans as well as in the City’s public art ordinance. As part of this process, each stakeholder group was presented an overview of national public art best practices, sample projects and the public art project process - from scope development to long-term maintenance. Later this month Ms. Singer will present the planning process’ Final Report, including key findings and

recommendations, to the City’s Public Art Advisory Board. In April Ms. Singer will present the Report to City of Delray Beach Commissioners.

FORT MYERSThere is a new Public Art map for the city.

FORT PIERCE1. The City is planning to install a highwayman trail with information Kiosks.

2. After a year long extension the Wow3 outdoor sculpture show is closing April 15. Plans are underway for a wow4 exhibit in 2013-14.

GAINESVILLECarl Reed from Colorado College came and recreated a sculpture that was damaged by the Reitz Union on campus. The work was originally made out of wood, but the climate (and termites) did a number on it over the past 15 years. He created the new work, called "Union Arch," out of concrete. He moved granite blocks that were part of the original sculpture to the new site. They function as seating for the students.

JUPITERArtists Daryl McCann, Lucy Keshavarz and Jesse Etelson will showcase their recent work, presented by EcoArt South Florida and the US Green Building Council at Jupiter’s annual Artigras festival of the arts. Their public EcoArt featured a "living wall," art-as-stormwater treatment, and sculptural habitats for small animals, birds and bees designed for natural areas in restoration.

MIAMITo solve ADA issues that were delaying the repair of “Dropped Bowl” by Oldenburg and Van Bruggen “bumps” were placed around the perimeter of the sculpture.

The following new projects have been opened in the past month:1. Carlos Alves and JC Carroll, Verde Garden2. Robert Chambers, Orbitals I and II and Light Field, South Dade Performing Arts Center
