Happy 8oth Birthday Maxwell Officers Spouses Club!
I hope to see everyone out to help celebrate our heritage and celebrate those that worked hard over the years to make this club run for 80 years. We will celebrate at our March social the 22. We will also present the li;le Black dress skit, wear your li;le black oueit (men and women) or just come comfortable!
I get asked ogen why I am so involved in the OSC, my main reason is it has been a support to me since my husband was a Lt. Being a member of the OSC at most of the bases we have been at has always brought me much joy. I have friends that I would have never go;en to know otherwise, and had experiences I would have missed out on. Of course, there were @mes when I did not "click," with the spouse group and sat a year out, but I always remembered each place is different, and gave it a try at the next base.
As I learned more about the clubs philosophy and community service and scholarship programs, I really was encouraged to always see where I could make a difference. So, I have always benefited both socially and helped make a difference. I have held most posi@ons and have been the president twice, if I can do it any of you can also! I will let you know if the years on the board look good on my resume next year as I hope to join the working force again!
One of the things I always had to remind myself of is, I may not always be invited to the OSC, I need to just find out where it is mee@ng and when and a;end. Some@mes I went three or four @mes before making some connec@ons. As spouses we know how hard it is to move and meet new friends, this club over my 23 years as a military spouse has given me the opportunity to get involved right away. Thanks to all of you that are members, board members, and who have stepped up wherever you have been and kept the Heritage of the OWC-‐OSC alive!
Happy Spring,
Lisa!

10 great books for military spouses
• "Today's Military Wife: Mee@ng the Challenges of Service Life, Figh Edi@on," by Army spouse Lydia Sloan Cline, covers the basics and con@nues to be updated. • "E-‐mail to the Front: One Wife's Correspondence with Her Husband Overseas," by Navy spouse Alesia Holliday. • "Going Overboard: The Misadventures of a Military Wife," by Navy spouse Sarah Smiley, is an open, honest account of the author's first experience with deployment. It reads like a novel, featuring a young woman not ready to be as independent as a military spouse needs to be. • "Heroes at Home: Help and Hope for America's Families," by Air Force spouse Ellie Kay, shares ideas for raising families. • "The Homefront Club: The Hardheaded Woman's Guide to Raising a Military Family," by Navy spouse Jacey Eckhart, is another open, honest and funny account of military life. Eckhart shares ideas on how to stay connected to your extended family. • "Married to the Military: A Survival Guide for Military Wives, Girlfriends and Women in Uniform," by Navy spouse Meredith Leyva, covers the basics -‐-‐ what we all need to know just to survive. • "Surviving Deployment: A Guide for Military Families," by Marine Corps spouse Karen M.
