Lowden Shield 2013 The Central Zone Lowden Shield was held on Sunday 17 February at

Sunbury Pony Club. Our team consisted of: Mia Buckley, Chloe Cornfoot,

Abbey Green, Emily Paxton, Tanisha Stewart, Ella Stewart, Laura Newnham,

Emily Newnham, Siobhan Laffan, Ally Clapton, Libby Mutimer. It was Mia’s

first competition and she did very well, placing in the pairs, flag and drum

and handymount. Ella and Emily won the pairs, while Tanisha, Laura and

Abbey took first prize in the team of three riders. A full list of results can

Despite the extreme heat our team had lots of fun and came home with a

truck load of ribbons. All of our riders placed in at least one event, earning

valuable points for our team.

Congratulations to this year’s shield winners, Riddells Creek. Macedon was

2nd and Woodend 3rd. Kilmore’s team of 11 riders finished in 5th place—

well done. Riddells Creek had a team of 27 riders, Macedon 23 and

Woodend 17.

The Lowden Shield is a numbers game—basically the more riders you have entered the

greater chance of winning points for your team. Several members of our junior committee

(who have represented our club at this event for many years) have suggested that we

make next year’s Lowden Shield an official rally day to boost our team numbers and give

us a fighting chance of taking out the shield.

This is a fun event that caters for everyone—even those who have never competed before.

There are flat (show) riding, games and handymount events. The games are timed so

horses do not race against each other. Riders compete in their own age group. If you have

any major objections to this idea please speak with our President, Jeanette Laffan, prior to

our next committee meeting when this will be discussed.

Glenlyon Horse Trials Emily Newnham, Laura Newnham, Tanisha Stewart, Danielle

Wright, Chloe Cornfoot and Natasha Mitchell competed at the

Glenlyon Horse Trials on 24 February. Siobhan Laffan, Rachel

Peake and Ella Stewart attended unmounted to lend support.

It was Emily, Chloe and Natasha’s first Horse Trials.

All of our members rode very well and presented themselves and

their horses beautifully. Tracey Newnham would like to make

mention and thank Siobhan, Tanisha, Laura, Rachel and Abbey

for supporting Emily around the cross country course. It was

lovely to see the older riders assisting the younger members out

competing. Also special mention to the Newnham family

strapper “Rachel Peake” for her undivided assistance and

support throughout the day.

Danielle placed 5th in Grade 2. Abbey won her Grade 4 section,

with Tanisha placing 2nd and Laura placing 6th in their Grade 4

sections. Chloe placed 2nd in Grade 5.

Social night at the trots Our social night at the Kilmore Harness meeting on 28 Feb-

ruary was a great success with approximately 40 members

and friends attending. Donna Green and Jo Treanor both

took a trip in the mobile barrier. Our junior members had

lots of fun playing on the lawn and watching the running of

the ‘Kilmore Pony Club VicBred Pace’ which was won by

Satisfied Grin, driven by Brian Gath. Hopefully we can hold

a similar event next year.

Welcome to Lancefield members and new

Kilmore members

Each year our club and Lancefield Pony Club take turns hosting a shared

rally. This time its our turn and a number of Lancefield members will be

joining us on Sunday. Please make them welcome and assist them

wherever possible.

Also a warm welcome to the following new members and their families:

Archer Prosser, Isaac Bradford, Lochie Thompson, Ally-May McQueen and

Shayla Comans.

Stalls cleanup

Please ensure that if you use the stalls

area that you pick up all manure and hay

at the end of the day. At recent rallies

the stalls have been left in a very untidy

state. If this continues the racing club

will deny us access to this area. Use of

the stalls is a privilege, not a right, so

please make an effort to clean up so

everyone can continue to enjoy this

facility.

AGM—April Rally

Our 2013 AGM will be held at lunchtime at our April rally (Sunday 21). All committee positions will be

declared open. Our club relies heavily on parental support to function successfully for the benefit of your

children so please consider putting your hand up for a role. For more information and nomination forms

please see Tracey Newnham.

No entry to sand roll

Please note that horses are not to be

put in the sand roll in the stalls area

under any circumstances. This area is

for use by race horses only.

Please assemble in games area for gear check—this will no longer be done by instructors at the

beginning of lessons. Lisa Stewart, Donna Green, Cathy Dingwall, Kellie Mutimer & Jeanette

Laffan will be gear checking. Any parents wishing to learn more about gear-checking are welcome

to shadow.

Don’t forget Morrie Mathews is attending this rally, so if you have ordered photos make sure you

and your horse are well-presented. Don’t forget your order forms and correct money.

Games Team practice: games team riders please report to Sam in games area for 4th session

Clonbinane CFA members will attend this rally to discuss fire plans with families and will also

provide a free coffee van. Please make them welcome.
