Message from the Principal Welcome back from your winter recess. I hope that the reprieve from making lunches, hunting for uniforms, helping with homework and all of the others duties involved with school allowed you some extra time with your children. These breaks from the routine can often help us reflect and renew while reminding us of how blessed we are to have been given these children of God. In the spirit of this renewal, our students and staff are journeying together through the season of Lent as we prepare for Easter. Our classes will hold special prayer services, attend weekly Masses, prayer for people everywhere, experience the Stations of the Cross together, and continue our Friday visits to the chapel for Eucharistic Adoration. We will also encourage our students to sacrifice something during Lent, perhaps forgo- ing a lunch snack, a movie or a toy, and instead, contribute those savings to the “rice bowl” that was given to them. Through Catholic Relief Services, your child’s sacrifice will be turned into much needed food, and health and educational services for those in need both locally and globally. With the help of you and our teachers, even our youngest students can appreciate the importance of sharing our blessings with others. In his Lenten message to the world, Pope Benedict reminds us that, “There is nothing more beneficial…towards one’s neighbor than to break the bread of the word of God, to share with him the Good News of the Gospel, (and) to introduce him to a relationship with God.” With your support and prayers, we will strive to do just that with your children and family each day here at St. Pius X. May God continue to bless you and your families with health and happiness this Lenten season. Come see why over 700 students call St Pius X their school Pre-School through 8th Grade with Full Day 3 and 4 year old Pre-K

St Pius X School and The Sacred Heart Food

Pantry Both Win at the ldquoSouper Bowlrdquo

While the Ravens were battling the Forty Niners in the Superbowl St Pius X students were in-

volved in the ldquoSouper Bowl of Caringrdquo First all 30 classes at St Pius X from Pre-K to 8th grade

huddled up to decide the name of their classroom football team Taking the field on behalf of the

Sacred Heart Food Pantry in North Albany were the 4th grade Dignum Dominators the 2nd grade St

Gelais Saints a 3rd grade team called Whatleyrsquos Gators along with Bickrsquos Bucket Fillers and the K-1

Superstars just to name a few

Ten donated food items were needed to earn a ldquofootballrdquo for the team As soon as the game be-

gan paper footballs were flying up onto the schoolrsquos huge bulletin board football field When the

final gun sounded over $1600 in donations and food items were collected This year every dollar

that was collected was worth approximately ten dollars at the Regional Food Bank where the Sa-

cred Heart Food Pantry has an account This means Sister Sarah will be able to purchase $16000

worth of food

The postgame and ensuing celebration was shared by all of the St Pius X students as well as Sister

Sarah and the volunteers at the Sacred Heart Food Pantry Each team is looking forward to helping

Sacred Heart and representing St Pius in next yearrsquos ldquoSouper Bowlrdquo

St Pius X School has a long tradition of helping the Sacred Heart Food Pantry and those less fortu-

nate whether they live locally or on the other side of the world That is because the Gospel mes-

sage and Christian service to others is at the very center of all the learning that takes place in the

school

On behalf of our students and staff have a very blessed Lenten Season and a peace-filled and re-

newing Easter
