MARCH 2018
The Park Public School Staff are excited to host a Big Box of Cards fund-
raiser! Each box of cards contains 33 handcrafted all occasion cards for a
low price of $33.00!! Having the Big Box of Cards will save you from go-
ing out to buy a card.
Our goal for the next few years is to improve the technology we have in
our building. With this fundraiser we are aiming to purchase 6 additional Chromebooks which will
give the school a class set. The Chromebooks are divided equally into the classrooms, but should a
class require the full set, arrangements are made to have the full set. We are
also planning on purchasing a Tech Tub to store them in safely. We also are
hoping to purchase an Ipad with Otterbox for each of our Kindergarten clas-
ses to provide some current technology in their rooms.
To achieve our goal we need your help! Our goal is to sell 287 boxes of
cards (approximately 2 boxes per student). If we can sell that amount we
will raise enough to purchase the technology mentioned. Regardless, any funds raised from the Big
Box of Cards will be going to purchase much needed technology for the school.
Our Big Box of Cards fundraiser will run from March 28th to April 10th. Each student that sells 3
boxes of cards will have their name entered into a draw for a chance of a $25 gift card (we will
have 4 draws). The top selling class will receive a pizza party. Plus any student that
sells just one box of cards will be entered into a draw for lunch with the staff member
of their choice!
More information will be coming home as we get closer to the date! We are looking
forward to being able to purchase additional technology for our students to use!
BIG BOX OF CARDS!!
MAKE CHANGE FOR CHILDREN
Every year, schools across the DSBN raise funds for the Education Foundation of Niagara (EFN). All
funds raised go directly back to help support students in our schools. The Make Change for Children
Campaign raises funds for basic necessities like nutritious food, clothing, field trip access and other
essentials that students would otherwise go without. EFN is also a proud sponsor of the Swim to Sur-
vive program that grade 3 students have the opportunity to participate in each year.
This year our Me 2 We team have put together a fun week to help raise funds for EFN from March
19th to March 23rd. Each day will have a theme and a cost to participate. We are hoping that
everyone will participate!
Monday, March 19 - Hat Day for a Nickel
Tuesday, March 20 - Sunglasses Day for a Dime
Wednesday, March 21 - Chew Gum Day for a Quarter
Thursday, March 22 - PJ & Stuffy Day for a Loonie
Friday, March 23 - Hot Chocolate Sale for a Toonie
Although the cost for each day is ONE coin, it would be great if each student brought in MULTIPLE
coins!! Thank you for helping us raise funds for such a worthy cause!

PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL
At Park Public School, we work closely with our community partners and value our work with the Town of Grims-by. The Town is responsible for the placement of Crossing Guards, as well as providing a replacement when necessary. With the nicer weather ahead, more students will be walking or riding their bikes to school. Below
are some reminders from the Town of Grimsby to ensure student safety when crossing with the Crossing Guard.
To enhance safe and active travel to school in our community, we strongly encourage our school families to use the services of the School Crossing Guards provided. Choosing safety over convenience is a positive life lesson to share with our stu-dents and we rely on both adults and older students to help set the example for positive and safe pedestrian habits for our younger community members. The added value of School Crossing Guards at key crossing locations, is the addition of the necessary ‘adult judgment’ to help ascertain weather conditions, road conditions, distance and speed, gaps in traffic, turning traffic, distracted driving
and so much more.
While waiting to cross the roadway, always stand 2-3 large steps back from the roadway. When crossing with the Guard, we ask that you dismount your bicycles and scooters and walk them across the crosswalk. Hold onto all sports equipment, remove head-
phones/earbuds and pause phone conversations, allowing your sole focus to be roadway safety.
Wait for the Guard to indicate it is safe to cross the roadway once he/she is assured the traffic has stopped. Do not follow the Guard directly onto the roadway. Always walk across the road and no horseplay while crossing. If crossing at a pedestrian walk signal, do
not enter the crosswalk once the flashing hand has appeared. Wait for the next walk signal.
Please keep in mind that School Crossing Guards are out there serving their communities, under all weather conditions and need eve-
ryone to follow the laws applicable under the Highway Traffic Act. Be mindful of their safety and the safety of their pedestrians!
If you have any questions, concerns or would be interested in being a Crossing Guard, please feel free to contact the Town of Grims-
by at 905-945-9634.

ized instruction for every student, adapting our lessons, scaffolding, and pacing
based on each student’s unique needs.
It is hard to believe but March Break is upon us. With the arrival of March Break we know that spring
is just around the corner. Some of you will be travelling to the sunny south and others will be enjoying a
Staycation. Whatever you are doing we wish you all a restful week with family and friends.
SCHOOL COUNCIL CORNER We wanted to start this month’s newsletter by recognizing the Park School community. Recently, one of our families lost their father.
A Go Fund Me page has been set-up by friends of the family. Please click the link to find out more (link).
Is anyone else counting down the days until winter is over? While it seems that spring is nowhere to be found, you can find the School
Council busy planning our end of year BBQ. Dates and details to be announced, but if anyone is interested in helping in any way,
please email us – [email protected].
Thanks to everyone who purchased Niagara Ice Dogs raffle tickets – together we raised $210. This fundraiser supports the purchase
of new team jerseys. Big thanks to Ms. Ashton & the Niagara Ice Dogs for donating tickets and also to Mr. Haggerty and all of the
Park staff coaches for working together on the new jerseys! Congratulations to the Raffle Draw Winners; Chloe G., Mila D. and Luke
J.
