March 2018

Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home, 12505 S. 40th Street, Bellevue NE 68123 402-595-2180

It is good once again to be back among friends and “family”. Indeed I am privileged and hum-

bled to once again be of service to our members, the home, veterans which means a lot to

me. I was also grateful to take part in the governor’s program which honored Vietnam veter-

ans and continue to be thankful for the great commitment this state to honor and support

veterans in so many ways.

The first quarter has been a busy time at Eastern in terms of events as

*welcomed Denise Rohan the first female commander of the American legion

*Celebrated another spectacular Valentines’ event with many families which was capped off

with a great surf and turf meal provided by our dietary team.

*broke ground on a new chiller/boiler system which will provide more uniform heat and cool-

ing for the building

But more than events during the quarter we also had events which focused on our friends

and staff as we:

*Celebrated /honored our volunteers with our volunteer recognition event which recognized

10,858 hours of dedicated service to our members

*Completed yet another successful class for nursing assistants,

*have processed more and more applications for employment as the news of our new wage

scale has begun to circulate in the community.

Indeed it is a good time to “come back” to a great place! Jeffrey Smith, Administrator

There is never a moment that she

isn’t going above and beyond for

members and staff. She also takes

everything in stride instead of be-

coming frazzled. She is a “Power

Worker”. She has the strongest

sense of community having her

fellow employees backs! She’s

always got the positive attitude

“making” any changes work. She’s

a power house no matter where

she is. Kali constantly showing

people teamwork no matter the

situation, anything is possible with

the right attitude. We need more

like her. On a few occasions a fel-

low employee was late or got sent

home and she just stepped up and

kept moving. She didn’t even com-

plain. She also tries to save fellow

coworkers form being MOT’d.

Helen Keller stated, "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." Life is seldom lived on the "big stage" with lots of attention and fanfare but in the daily routine of work and relationships that seldom get noticed. But God notices and cares about how we live out the daily routine of life. Jesus men-tioned that He is aware of even the cup of cold water given in His name. God seems to care more about the motivation we do in all of life--doing everything out of love for God and for others. That matters more than how "big" and "public" it is. Make a difference today in your daily routines of life!

Momma Clowns:

Each month this group of

ladies dress up in their happy

go-lucky clown costumes

(handmade) to sing Happy

Birthday. They sing to every

member who has a birthday

that particular month. They

bring a balloon and a card

too. They are a welcome

sight to members and staff.

Thank you Momma Clowns!
