Parsha Summaries
Vayakhel • He Assembled Exodus 35:1 - 38:20
Moses convenes the entire people. Just as the laws of the Tabernacle end with the laws of the Sabbath, so, too, the process of building it begins with a reiteration of the holiness of the Sabbath, mandating that the people refrain from work and from kin-dling fire on Shabbat.
Moses then calls for contributions from the people and asks those with talent and ability to participate in the project. The response is so generous and enthusiastic that all the men and women whose hearts moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord, through Moses, had commanded to be done, did so as a freewill offer-ing. Bezalel and Oholiab take the donations and begin to work, and the donations are so bounteous the Moses has to order the people to stop giving.
The people join in the work of construction, sewing, and building, and Bezalel turns to fashioning the furniture and accessories of the Tabernacle: the ark, the table, the menorah, the altar of incense, the anointing oil and incense, the altar of burnt offer-ing, the laver, and the enclosure.
YahrzeitsWe remember those of our Anshe Emet family who are no longer
with us and whose Yahrzeits we observe this week.May their memory be for a blessing.

Pekudei • The Accounts Exodus 38:21 - 40:38
A tally is made of all the metals used in the construction of the Tabernacle: gold, silver, and copper. The instructions for making the priestly garments are strictly im-plemented, and the people make the vestments just as God had commanded.
When the work is complete, the people bring each item to Moses for inspection: “And when Moses saw that they had performed all the tasks—as the Lord had com-manded, so they had done—Moses blessed them.”
God instructs Moses how to now erect the Tabernacle, which is done on the First of Nissan, near the second anniversary of the Exodus from Egypt. Moses does as God commands, and when he finishes the work “the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the Presence of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.”
The people rest when the cloud is settled, and move only when the cloud lifts, thus following God’s initiative and leadership as they wander toward Eretz Yisrael.

ON-LINE CLASS: BLESSING EACH OTHER ACROSS DISTANCES WITH CANTOR REBECCA JOY FLETCHERTUESDAYS, MARCH 24, 31 & APRIL 7 &14 • 12PM-1:30pm
At this time when most of us are home-bound, and many of us are physically isolated from folks we love, we would do well to cultivate our capacity to bless each other spon-taneously. The goal of this four part class is to mine our tradition in order to help folks cultivate a greater sense of connection to and compassion for each other, as well as the inner sense that others are blessing you too — that we exist in a constant web of blessings, known and unknown, voiced and unvoiced, even when we are physically far apart. It is the least we can do for each other.
