CHRISTINA PEEL for ARTASY
CHRISTINA PEEL
Christina Peel is a Norwegian artist who typically works with wall installations in clay. Her work is an exploration of materiality and geometry. Working with different systems and the aesthetics of repetition, she makes infinitely repeatable patterns.
The sculpture that will be shown in Design Pier is a part of a bigger installation. Trikona is a series of wall sculptures relating to the space around them, and the rooms function merely as a meditative space.Using two reflecting triangles, Christina Peel has constructed a form that repeats itself within its own system, cast by hand in unglazed clay in three colours. Trikona is Sanskrit for triangle. In the Hindu pantheon of gods, geometrical symbols have a prominent place.
Peel is often influenced by nature and mysticism in her work. And for the Trikona series she has been inspired by abstract temple paintings from a part of the Tantric tradition in the Rajasthan district of India that, until recently, was little known to the outside world. The paintings are based on hand-written texts, tantras, and in all their simplicity and abstraction represent different spiritual values. The symbol of two conjoined triangles, pointing in opposite directions, represents the male and the female in a new spiritual dimension. The bluer the colour, the higher the consciousness.

HEKSAR SERIES
This table is the first result of an in-house study that we are conducting on middle eastern design and how the 200+ years of colonialism, occupation and wars have disrupted the design process. We are interested in looking on how design would have evolved and how that would have translated into furniture pieces.
FADI SARIEDDINE
Dubai-based Fadi Sarieddine Design Studio operates out of the city’s design district (d3). Co-founded in 2013 by Lebanese architect Fadi Sarieddine and his wife, former Montessori teacher Lilas Bitar, the studio was created to be a platform for experimentation where their two worlds can meet to probe forms, narratives, textures and movement. The studio’s scope ranges from architectural projects to interior design for offices, retail, restaurants and homes with a focus on furniture design, delivering designs that appear alive in their bold concepts and movement.

I want to see beautiful things. I want to make the thing that time can be exceeded.” - says Hiroki Takada about his Tea ceremony chair.
This work was selected for the permanent collection of Museum of Arts and Design in New York and chair collection of DDP in Seoul. Hiroki Takada joined Tom Dixon in 2006 and he is a part-time lecturer at Nagoya Art University.

STOCKHOLM SIDEBOARD
A collection of sideboards, chests of drawers and TV benches, winner of the Red Dot 2015 Award, with a singular aluminum finish on the top surface. A piece of furniture leaning on a plinth, on adjustable feet or hanging from optional wall-fixing devices. A new kind of sophistication-in the quality and combination of materials, and in the precise styling and balanced radii.
MARIO RUIZ for PUNT
At his Studio located in Barcelona, Mario Ruiz works on design products demanded by internationally known companies in different field such as technologies, furniture, lighting, office and applied graphic. He also collaborates on interior and architectural projects. His designs transmit his interest in “design in few words: who says a lot with very little”.
PUNT means a point. A line is a series of points following a certain direction through space. The points from Punt that go to make up the collection are practically infinite. Punt designs run amongst reality, function, reason, sensibility, fantasy and magic.

SEBASTIEN HERKNER and LORENZA BOZZOLI for DEDON
MBRACE
MBRACE takes a joyfully unconventional approach to outdoor furniture, bringing DEDON Fiber seating and a solid teak base together for the very first time. The result is an eye-catching, instantly likable collection of chairs — wingback, lounger, rocker and optional footstool — that captures the spirit of barefoot luxury while extending the DEDON design language into new, more Nordic territory. Conceived by one of Europe’s most talked-about young design talents, Sebastian Herkner of Germany, MBRACE fully lives up to the welcoming gesture invoked by its name. One experiences a warm, secure, cocooning feeling when being embraced by the chair’s extra-wide back, especially after a cool dip in the pool. Herkner designed the seat to be invitingly comfortable even late in the season, after MBRACE’s luxurious seat cushions have been stored away.
PORCINI
The right accessory can bring a new dimension to any outdoor living room, adding a subtle twist, enriching the material mix and helping to complete the overall atmosphere. But what exactly is the right accessory? It has to be beautiful, of course. It has to be interesting. And it ought to be unexpected. In other words, the right accessory for almost any outdoor setting is PORCINI, by Lorenza Bozzoli.Named after the beloved Italian mushrooms it casually resembles, PORCINI is a collection of sculptural side tables as practical and versatile as it is delightful to the eye.Available in three heights, two different base styles and two elegant colorways, the side tables integrate with any DEDON collection and make the strongest impression when displayed together in a mix of shapes and sizes. All versions of PORCINI come with a tabletop of rich, smooth, scratch-proof, shock-resistant ceramic in a choice of Black or Taupe. The woven base, available for all three heights, comes in dark Marrone (forthe Black top) or lighter Carrara (for the Taupe top). The all-ceramic base, available only in the short and medium heights, also comes in a choice of Marrone or Carrara.

SOFIA BEILHARZ
THE POETRY OF GEOMETRY
It is the airiness, the sheer expression of a clear language of form, that defines Sofia Beilharz’s creations - makes them seem so natural to designer and wearer alike. Jewellery that never seems overstated or conventional, but instead underlines personality and accentuates style. Geometry comes into play and marries poetry. Delicacy and mass are not antagonists here, but rather surprisingly complementary. One is reminded of a dna-spiral of molecules when one first sees the chains of fine tubes which have become a trademark of Sofia Beilharz.

VITO SELMA
Though specific stimuli may shift from time to time, the Vito Selma brand is quite adamant on its focus on the natural. An examination of numerous inspirations reveal a love affair with shapes and textures that are often repeated in the earth, the sky and the sea.
It is this love for nature that has driven the brand to constantly look for design components that satisfy its inclinations, while relying on wood as a primary medium.
Considered as an enduring partner despite the brand’s continuous evolution, wood and its many variations and reiterations, provides avenues for Vito Selma® to experiment, create and explore.
This exploration has allowed the brand not only to push the limits of the material, but also to examine the results of its marriage with other organic elements.

ZAHA HADID for B&B ITALIA
MOON SYSTEM
A continuous form which combines aesthetics and ergonomic features. Moon System expresses the happy meeting of attitude and experimentation typical of B&B Italia and Zaha Hadid work exploring the complexity of curved geometry. The concept of seating, in its most traditional sense, is radically undermined by the creation of an angular, highly dynamic form: a single shape which contains the back, the seating, and the armrests as if “sculpted” from a single block. Metallic as if it had just arrived from outer space, Moon System is best placed at the centre of a room from where its fluid, expressive curves can be admired from new viewpoints. The system is complete with footrest, whose shape perfectly integrates with the form of the sofa.
ZAHA HADID DESIGN
AQUA PLATTER
Limited Edition: 200 sets Inspired by the undulating wave of the London 2012 Olympic Aquatics Centre, the Aqua Platter conveys the fluid rhythms of water in motion. The weight of the platter is distributed across three curvilinear points that gently land the platter on a surface, each point lightly infused with color to create a visual effect that simultaneously grounds the Aqua and expresses the fluid forces that define its form. The Aqua Platters are formed from solid acrylic and finished by hand to a transparent quality. The forms are typically free from inclusions and deformation however some elements may be visible due to the hand-finished nature of the product. This piece is a limited edition of 200, and a Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Design Pier is re-imagining this concept. They create for Zuma a sanctuary of tranquility featuring enchanting design pieces from the most cutting edge Japanese and Taiwanese designers.
The pieces surprise us with their uniqueness and eccentricity. They transport us to a dreamland where the rocks are made of wool, the walls are made of Washi paper, where you can comfortably sit on a giant tea whisk protected from curious eyes by a fan-shaped screen.
