Given what has developed over the last week and what our Gov-
ernor directed for all schools and larger events last evening, our
Catholic schools to be closed from today through this coming
Friday, and if they had any large events planned they are to be
postponed until further notice.
As for all of our parishes, I am still reluctant to have all Masses
cancelled but I do tell you that until this health crisis is under
control and contained, I am directing that our priests and par-
ishes do the following:
1. I am continuing the suspension of the exchange of the Sign of Peace at all Masses indefinitely.
2. The distribution of Holy Communion is to be done un-der the Sacred Species of the Body of Christ only until further notice from me.
3. Where there is daily Mass, persons present are to keep that safe distance from one another.
4. If possible, have and use ample doses of hand sanitiz-er and make it available for those who come to Mass and for those who assist you at the altar or in any litur-gical ministry.
5. If your parish has Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in a side or small chapel, this is to be cancelled. Instead, keep your parish churches open for all to make visits to the Blessed Sacrament reposed in the tabernacle.
6. If your parish has a fish fry in Lent, take orders for car-ry out only but no sit-down dining, or for this year, it is to be cancelled.
7. Confirmations scheduled up to Easter will continue, but if I make any changes to the time and venue you will be notified no less than two days before.
I intend to evaluate further our situation during the course of
this week and if there are other changes to be made, I shall
communicate them to you at the end of the week. Before all
else, let us continue to pray.
“O, Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us who have recourse to
Thee!”
