BLESSED TRINITY PARISH CLEVELAND, OH
From Fr. Doug’s Desk…
St. Patrick’s Day Mass
When our three parishes merged there was a
specific intent on the part of the pastoral staff to help
people realize that we were creating a new entity, not
joining three different entities. Annunciation, Ascension
and St. Patrick were not like the BP Station, Subway
and the Car Wash that now happened to be on the same
property. Rather our parish was a new endeavor that
was neither Annunciation, nor Ascension nor St.
Patrick. It has a new mission statement. It has
parishioners from St. James in Lakewood, St. Malachi,
St Philip and James, St. Mark, St. Charles, St. Bernard,
St. Peter, Our Lady of the Angels. It has new
parishioners through RCIA. It is a new parish with a
new vision creating its own history, culture and
traditions. As founding members, we have all been a
part of this wonderful journey
And yet, there is a history that we cannot deny. It is
with that in mind that Bishop Lennon called me last
week and asked if I would consider having a special
Mass on St. Patrick’s Day. He had received a letter from
a former St. Patrick parishioner inquiring about the
possibility of a Mass. I shared some of my thoughts
about the idea with Bishop Lennon.
The pastoral staff had discussed having a St. Patrick
Day Mass the first year and opted out of it because we
were a new parish and most of our new parish was not
of Irish descent. And if we did have one, would that
mean that we would have a special Mass on the feast of
the Annunciation? Would we have a special Mass on
the feast of the Ascension? How would that be
affirming, welcoming and engaging to those
parishioners from none of the officially merged
parishes?
We did not want to “compete” with St. Colman and
St. Patrick on Bridge Ave. who have longstanding St.
Patrick Day traditions and who rely in part on the large
attendance at those Masses for the windfall of financial
support that day generates for them. And we were not
sure if anyone would come here for Mass that day
anyway.
Now that there has been a request to have a Mass
that day and that people want it and will come, we will
be celebrating Mass at 10:00 am on St. Patrick’s Day
here at Blessed Trinity. This Mass provides several
opportunities. It is a way to acknowledge the heritage
and history of that portion of our current parish that is
from St. Patrick Parish West Park. It is an opportunity
Disciple of the Week
Rosemary Miller has been a devoted coordinator
of the Bereavement Ministry. She lines up the servers,
Eucharistic ministers, ushers, greeters and lectors. (And
sometimes even the presider!)
She is an active choir member. She also helps
at the fish fries, seasoning all the dishes to perfection.
Thank you, Rosemary, for being such a great disciple.
for former members of St. Patrick who have not joined
Blessed Trinity to come here and renew old acquaint-
ances. It is a chance for all the people of West Park to
gather together in prayer and song, breaking bread to-
gether and striving for Christian unity as did the peo-
ple of Ireland who set aside their centuries of war and
bitterness and recently brought about a true and lasting
peace.
They say that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s
Day. So come celebrate Mass here at Blessed Trinity
at 10:00 am to begin your St. Patrick Day.

RENEWAL REFLECTION OF THE WEEK
Michael Hoag was a new parishioner and the Spiritual
Director for the first renewal. After the renewal, Michael
reflected: “Since the renewal I know people and will always
have someone to sit with!” Michael died suddenly on Janu-
ary 10. He is greatly missed. We are blessed to have
shared his witness of faith, if even for this short time. Join
us on March 9 and 10 from 7:00pm on Friday until
8:00pm on Saturday!
CALLING ALL MINISTRIES! Blessed Trinity will host it's
first Ministry Fair, Friday, March 23rd, in Fogarty Hall, 5:30
-7:30 p.m. We want to showcase the numerous ways God
is at work in our parish. If you are involved in a church
ministry -- whether it's Prayer Shawls or Heroes Camp --
we want to make sure the ministry is included. The Fair
will be held during our Lenten Fish Fry. Be sure to invite
your neighbors and friends to this fun event. Contact
Jacqui Fantroy at 269-9767 or email [email protected]
to register your ministry ASAP. Tables are limited.
OUR “NEW” USED TRUCK Phil Devaty’s brother,
Ronald, has donated his used truck to our parish. We are
grateful for this upgrade from our former “death-trap beater”
of a truck. Thank you, Ronald, for thinking of us and for
your generosity. (Ronald is also Jean Raffay’s brother.)
