INVISIBLE ZIPPER Beginner to IntermediateLearn secrets to install an invisible zipper like a pro! You’ll not only learn how to install an invisible zipper, but also how to finish the neckline facing/lining. This is different from a regular zipper and Maria shares techniques for a professional looking garment. Discover how to install a metal zipper at the back of a dress complete with a shield for added comfort. You will learn how to make the shield, install the zipper and finish the neckline. Time permitting, other methods will also be taught. Kit $25 3 Hour Workshop | Fri 1:00 – 4:00(Aviation A3)

HEM ALTERATIONS Beginner to Intermediate Hemming is the most common alteration necessary to properly fitting pants. In fact, most high end pants come with the hem not finished, only serged then measured in store and hemmed by the work room staff. Circle skirts are the most tricky to hem because of the bias drape that will drop more than the straight grain. But there is a trick that Maria shares to hemming it evenly all the way around with no puckers or pleats. A Euro hem is when the original hem is kept on jeans when shortening. It’s a neat trick that keeps the jeans’ original look making one feel like the jeans were made for just for you! Bring: two pair of pants that need hemming, a rolled edge or blind stitched hem and one Euro hem to alter in class. Kit $10.3 Hour Workshop | Sat 9:00 – 12:00(Aviation A3)

PATTERN DRAFTING Discover how the bodice basic block is drafted, how shaping is added, and how role measurements or numbers play in the

process. See how body issues are identified, and dealt with on the paper well before any fabric is cut. As a certified Modellista pattern maker, Maria can answer any questions you may have regarding pattern drafting. 1.5 Hour Seminar | Sat 1:00 – 2:30(Aviation C1)

PANT ALTERATIONS: KNOW YOUR BODY MEASUREMENTS All LevelsDo you have a hard time or not know how to measure yourself to help with pattern alterations? We’ll take 28 body

measurements… high bust, low bust, shoulder width, sleeve length, back waist length, pant and skirt length...plus more. These basic but essential measurements are crucial for a start to fitting your pattern. Ron explains how to alter for flat and low seat, full thighs, large waist, knock knees, bowed legs plus protruding derriere, full and high hip. Take home an alteration package with your pant alterations and personal measurement chart and the knowledge on how to alter your pant pattern for a perfect fit. Kit $203 Hour Workshop | Thurs 9:00 – 12:00(Aviation A2)

FASHION SEWING & SERGING | 17

Bring: Basic sewing supplies to include 100% neutral cotton thread, needles, pins, thimble, see-thru ruler, scissors, rotary cutter, tape measure, marking pen, pencil, seam ripper, sewing guage, etc.

DESIGNER FINISHES All LevelsCreate 17 reference samples in this information-packed class! Practice 12 different seam finishes, seven of which are non-serged, to include Hong Kong, Bound, Flat Fell, French and Striped, along with a great way to finish off underlined pants with a Double French Seam. Learn to make 142” of continuous bias tape at 1 3/4” wide out of 16 1/2” square of fabric for some of these great seams. You’ll also make a fake flat fell seam, reinforced seam, and a finished pressed open seam. And if that’s not enough, make an unbelievable dart and pleat using one thread on your sewing machine, using only your bobbin thread in your sewing machine… great for shear fabrics or a designer detail. Kit $153 Hour Workshop | Thurs 1:00 – 4:00(Aviation A3)

POSH POCKETS All LevelsGet the hands-on techniques to create two of the most recognized posh pockets, welt pockets and invisible stitch patch pocket. Welt pockets are a trial for most home sewers if you simply follow pattern instruction. Ron has refined this pocket so that it can be constructed with a single welt, double welt with or without a pocket flap and no bulk. The invisible stitched patched pocket is the Rolls Royce of pockets and is rarely done in ready to wear unless it comes with a heavy price tag. There is no visible stitching on the outside of the patch pocket and is fully lined on the inside to give pocket strength with a show of first class. Join Ron for this exercise in pocket perfection. Kit $123 Hour Workshop | Fri 9:00 – 12:00(Aviation A3)

BODICE ALTERATIONS & CHOOSING THE CORRECT SIZE FOR THE RIGHT FIT! All LevelsLearn to identify fitting problems and how to solve them as Ron shows how to correct an array of issues to include… sloping and square shoulders, large bust, high and low bust, removal of a bust dart, broad and round upper back, sway back, large upper arm and tight armholes. Ron takes the

guess work out of choosing garment size by finding the “finished garment measurements” rather than using the sizes on the back of the pattern envelope. He shares insider info on the difference in sizing charts with major pattern companies and which companies run larger and which tend to run true to measurements. He’ll also explain the wearing ease you need in all garments from close fitting, fitted, semi fitted, loose fitted and very loose fitted. You’ll leave with a reference package showing the alterations made in class and the confidence to choose the right size for you. Kit $203 Hour Workshop | Fri 1:00 – 4:00(Aviation A2)

MEN’S SHIRTS OR WOMEN’S BLOUSESRon is known for his “one of a kind” shirts. Come, see the latest construction techniques not found in pattern instructions. Ron shows how to completely remove all bulk from the center front of the collar, making it much smoother and more tailored. This technique is constructed in a completely different method than ever before. Learn how to do clean edge facings with no visible stitches and see how to tame bias cut yokes, cuff and front plackets. Ever made a double yoke shirt and were disappointed with the results of your finished garment?... Never again! Get professional results working with fusible interfacings and other stylish details.  1 Hour Seminar | Sat 9:00 – 10:00(Aviation C1)

PATTERN SOFTWARE … IS IT FOR YOU?Tired of all the pattern alterations? Maybe it is time to consider letting the computer aid you in obtaining patterns that are better suited to your proportions. This class will focus on a discussion of considerations one should make when working with software; what measurements are important, trouble fit areas, the use of master patterns, pattern editing for fit and creativity, etc. Learn how just possibly, computer software can be your ally. Garment Designer for Windows/Mac will be used as the demonstration tool, but the same thought processes are necessary for other programs1.5 Hour Seminar | Fri 9:00 – 10:30(Aviation C1)
