Child Abuse Prevention Month sion at a very young age, being

left alone at a young age without

supervision, seeming physically

unwell all the time, or appearing

starved or malnourished. But use

common sense before reporting.

Some thin children may be mal-

nourished, or they may just be

thin. Do the Knowledge before

destroying a family. Once agen-

cies get involved, they stay in-

volved.

When reporting suspected child

abuse or neglect its important to

give as much information as

possible about the child. If you

know the age, the name, or can

recall incidences where the child

appeared to have suffered from

abuse or neglect, these should all

be reported. Don‘t take a punk‘s

route and do nothing.

Increasing public awareness of

the need to ensure the safety

and welfare of children led to

the passage of the first Federal

child protection legislation, the

Child Abuse Prevention and

Treatment Act (CAPTA), in

1974. April was proclaimed the

first National Child Abuse Pre-

vention Month in 1983. Since

then, child abuse and neglect

awareness activities have been

promoted across the country

during April of each year.

Child abuse is hard to define.

People have their own ideas of

what constitutes abuse. I may

think that spanking a child with a

belt is abuse. Others may not.

The best way to determine

whether a child is being abused

is to build with said child (if you

know them personally) or their

companions. Look for signs such

as nervousness around adults,

watchfulness, as though they are

preparing for something bad to

happen, having difficulty playing,

acting aggressive to adults and

other children, unable to con-

centrate at school, suddenly

under achieve or over achieve at

school, finding it difficult to trust

other people and make friends

and/or arrive at school early or

leave after the other children.

What can we do, individually, to

prevent child abuse? Well the

most obvious and effective

means is to not abuse children in

our own ciphers. Another way

to publicly declare that we are

observing Child Abuse Preven-

tion month is to tie a Blue rib-

bon on the antennae of our cars

or wear one. The Blue Ribbon

Campaign to Prevent Child

Abuse began as a Virginia grand-

mother's tribute to her grandson

who died as a result of abuse.

She tied a blue ribbon to the

antenna of her car as a way to

remember him and to alert her

community to the tragedy of

child abuse. The Blue Ribbon

Campaign has since expanded

across the country, and many

wear blue ribbons each April in

memory of those who have died

as a result of child abuse.

And the most effective way of

preventing child abuse, to chil-

dren that aren‘t ours is to report

it. Reporting child abuse is anon-

ymous, thus one usually need

not fear repercussions for re-

porting suspected child abuse.

Normally one reports to one‘s

local child protection agency, or

to the police department, if one

feels relatively certain a child is

being abused (800-CHILDREN).

Signs of child abuse might include

frequent injuries, hearing ex-

tremely abusive language or

hearing physical abuse directed

at a child. You might also want

to report suspicion of severe

Child neglect for example kids

being outside without supervi-

With the weather returning to how so

many of us prefer it( i.e. sunny, warm,

etc… ), the recognition, and desire to

get, be and stay fit is dominant than

ever. Which is great, keeping forever in

thought knowledge, Culture( Now is

the time! ). There are several aspects,

or requirements to getting and staying

fit, which are as following:

1. Exercising…

2. Dieting…

3. Water Intake…

4. Rest.

There is another one, which is actually

the first and most important one, which

is generally not mentioned, and over-

looked. Such a requirement is

COMMITMENT! Because of such

overlooking or lack of mentioning, so

many either start and finish not, or just

get past that thought or desire to get,

or be fit. Before anyone decides to

commence such a beautiful thing( Fit-

ness ) I suggest you do the knowledge,

decide and commit to that decision. For

what and how fitness can be to and for

you, greatly depends on your

COMMITMENT. And then, and only

going to do as a body to protect

the planet Earth. We can adopt a

road. We can have a plan a pa-

per recycling drive. Something.

There has to be something that

we as a body in Allah‘s Garden

can do to show our support.

Cosmetically, we can wear green

crowns and Headwraps on Fri-

day April 22, 2011.

On Sunday April 17th there will

be an Earth Day festival spon-

sored by the Oakhurst Garden

Project. There will be a band, a

promenade, a cake contest,

children‘s crafts a raptor show

and 30 Earth-friendly vendors

and non-profits in attendance.

Earth Day falls on Friday April

22, 2011. Earth Day is a day

that is intended to inspire aware-

ness and appreciation for the

Earth's natural environment.

Earth Day has no central organ-

izing force behind it, though

several nongovernmental organi-

zations work to keep track of

the thousands of local events in

schools and parks that mark the

day. It affirms that environmental

awareness is part of the coun-

try‘s consciousness and that the

idea of protecting the environ-

ment — once the province of a

few conservationists — has

moved from the extreme to the

mainstream of American

thought. Earth Day was founded

by United States Senator Gay-

lord Nelson as an environmental

teach-in first held on April 22,

1970. Other countries observe

Earth day on the Vernal Equinox.

Well now that we know what

Earth Day is, how do we cele-

brate it? Go out and plant a tree.

Pick up litter along the roadside.

Plant a garden. Teach your chil-

dren about the importance of

taking care of the earth. Travel

by mass transit. Bring your lunch

to work (if you don‘t already).

Turn off the lights, faucets, and

appliances in your home. Start

recycling. Most of all, be con-

scious of how your carbon foot-

print and how your actions affect

our planet.

IMHO, we need to ask ourselves

and the cipher what we are

you bring a positive attitude al-so. Positivity breeds positivity and

negativity breeds negativity. Be the piece with the magnetic and deter-mine the atmosphere wherever your

are...... including the work-place. Being positive and keeping

that great smile creates an atmos-phere where people want to com-municate with you, want to hang out

with you and in many cases, want your advice. All the above gets you

on the road to establishing rapport with the people you work around. This is the relationship you

want with your coworkers. Each coworker on your side is one less

adversary. When coworkers see you as an ally and not an adversary then

things like constructive criticism and positive reinforcement will make the workplace a more functional and

efficient environment. At the end of the day this is gonna benefit you

just as much as it benefits the place your call your job. More to come next time..........

Peace,

Getting along in the workplace is a skill set which can greatly enhance your career. Using some of the

below concepts and practices can get you in doors that may have

previously been closed. Don't be a victim of your own workplace sabo-tage. Open your third eye and do

the knowledge on how to get along in your job environment.

The thing about the job environment is that it's not just about you. If you

work around others you have to keep them in mind while at the

workplace. You want to make sure your mental and physical are in good

working condition. Good working condition? Yes! You want to make sure your mental and physical are in

the same condition they were when you went for your first job inter-

view. Make sure you clothes are ironed and clean. Make sure your shoes are clean and polished. Make

sure your hair is well groomed. Take a shower before

going to work and brush your teeth before you leave the house. No one wants to be around a smelly, sloppy,

poorly kept rag-a-muffin. You want your physical to attract people to-

wards you not repel them away.

The same rules apply to your men-tal. You don't want people to be

afraid to ask you questions or solicit your help. Make sure you smile

when in the workplace. Show peo-ple that you're happy and of good cheer. If you're happy then people

who want happiness or want to learn how to be happy are going to be

drawn to you. Your smile is always going to be an early warning system, alerting people to the reality that

you're not some sad sack person who has a ton of sob stories if

they're willing to come near you and listen. Who wants that? The aver-age person is already sad

enough. Do you want to be that person who attracts sad people who

want some bad company? NO! So keep that smile up. A smile isn't

something you put on your face just for other people. There's science to smiling. A smile can actually initiate

positive physical processes in the body. Smiles can reduce high blood

pressure, boost your immune sys-tem, help begin the secretion of beneficial hormones, relieve stress

and help you stay younger look-ing. If you don't take what I say on

face value then do your own re-search and look it up. Smiles aren't just for those who see you, smiles

benefit you too, internally and exter-nally.

With that positive smile make sure

National Soyfoods Month April is natural soyfoods month. If you Google it you get a lot of

soyfoods advertisements like milk, bars and such. I‘m not going advo-cate any of these products, espe-

cially since soy is in processed food more than people generally realize. The product that comes to mind

when discussing soy food is tofu. And that‘s what I will build on in

this discussion.

I have been a vegetarian for 11 years. I have noticed that my taste for a lot of food has come and

gone, but tofu is a mainstay. I have-n‘t always enjoyed tofu, but I admit that came from not knowing how

to prepare it. Whole Foods gets

the credit for opening me up to the versatility of tofu. Tofu, the way I am discussing it is that white

block of product that you find in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. It comes in silken,

firm and extra firm.

I use silk to give smoothies body

or for dips and sauces. It is a good milk replacement in recipes. You can also season it to make a nice vegan mayonnaise. The firm can be

used to imitate scrambled eggs

with salt, pepper, garlic, and tur-meric (for color). You can also use

scrambled firm for ricotta cheese replacement. Season it with Spike and nutritional yeast to make it

‗cheesy.‘ Firm tofu I use for meat replacements. The water in this tofu needs to be drained as much

as possible And then season this according to how you want it to taste. Chicken fried tofu, buffalo tofu, jerk tofu, tofu fish sticks all

show up on my dining table regu-larly. But right now, I‘m in love with ―Facon.‖ Bacon flavored tofu.

I know I‘m not supposed to like bacon flavored anything. Allow me

some latitude. Here is my recipe.

Ingredients

1 block of firm tofu drained and

previously frozen

2 T nutritional yeast

2 T water

½ t onion powder

½ t garlic powder

1 t liquid smoke

1 T maple syrup

And I like a sprinkle of red pepper

flakes for bite!

Soy is a vegetarian/vegan source of protein that has been shown to be ―heart healthy,‖ prevents some cancers (while rumored to cause others)

and is helpful for women in menopause. Soy also is a phyto-estrogen. Meaning it behaves like estrogen in the body; it can be feminizing to girls as well as boys. Soy may contain MSG, is a GMO, may cause infertility,

may stunt growth and is very processed.

First and foremost, soy is unavoidable unless you micromanage every part of your diet. Lecithin, an emulsifier, is in nearly every processed food. Ready your ingredients. Emulsifiers bind unlikes together. Soybean oil is a

cheap frying oil. So your pre-fried food is probably fried in soybean oil. Unless you are eating whole, unprocessed, un-fried food, you are getting a

good daily dose of soy.

There is a valid argument that Asian cultures have eaten soy with no

deleterious effects for years, months and days. And if that rumored statis-tic is true, they probably never ate it in the quantities that American‘s

now eat it. You also have to ask what are they paring it with?

So what is the verdict? You have to do the knowledge for self and make your own decision. I feed my family tofu weekly sometimes bi-weekly. But

I also stay away from processed foods. I prefer to cook from scratch and we rarely eat fast food. So tofu is the soy source in my Universe. Do the

Knowledge and make it work for your Universe.

Peace

Slice the tofu in thin bacon like

strips

Mix the remaining ingredients and

allow the tofu to marinate in it for

30 minutes.

Spray some aluminum foil with oil. and lay out the strips. Bake on

375* for 30 minutes and flip. Bake on that side for another 15 minutes. Finish off under the broil-

er for 15 minutes to make the

coating crunchy

Bon appetite!
