Looking outside it is hard to imagine it but spring is just around the corner. Preparations are underway for the start of the golf season. We do not know at this time how large the spring runoff will be but the large accumulation of snow is a concern. After 2010 and 2011, Greg, Mike and his crew are better prepared, both in terms of experience and pumping equipment, to meet the challenge.

The Pro Shop is open. Dean and his staff also have three indoor driving nets in operation. Lessons in the teaching center are up and running to help you get an early jump on the season. If you are interested, give the Pro Shop a call.

Greg and his staff have been working on improving the food and beverage services in 2013. The focus in 2013 will be on the operations themselves (ie.management, staff, menu, etc.) before we consider making any structural or equipment changes.

A reminder that the Open House is coming up on April 14th and the Annual Meeting on April 15th. I hope that you will attend both of these events.

Message from the 2013 Ladies President

March arrived, but not nearly as lamblike as one would hope. The eternal winter is starting to abate, days are getting longer, the temperature is slowly moving upward on both the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales, and the snow birds are beginning to flock home. Now, our thoughts start to move towards spring and golf season. Truth be told, the driving range will open in less than 2 months - if the snow ever melts. The Wascana Women’s Executive has met a number of times over the winter preparing for the 2013 season. Part of the planning process it to include events open to every woman in the club offering additional golfing opportunities depending on your interest (e.g. morning or afternoon golf, 9 or 18 holes, competitive or fun) – with in sections or not. Our goal is to increase golf participation by all women members of the Wascana Country club. I think everyone knows that Tuesdays and Saturday afternoons are for women at WCC, but did you know that you do not have to be a part of an organized section (Team Tuesday, the Business Women, or the 9 Hole Women’s Sections) to play at these times? We are encouraging all women members to join up with your friends or make new friends – put your name in where you see an opening. Our intent is to make the Women’s Locker room the “Communications Hub”. Information about events, the section binders, upcoming events – all the information that women golfing require at the Wascana housed in one central location. For more information about women’s golf and the 3 women’s section at the Wascana Country Club, please refer to the 2013 WCC roster book and the Women’s Fixture Cards. The Team Captains for 2013 are as follows: Team Tuesday – Carie Bandvold Business Women – Lindsay Folk 9 Hole Women’s – Jean Cameron We would like to thank these women and their teams taking on these positions for 2013. These women work tirelessly on behalf of their sections for the entire season, organizing fun days, collecting prizes and communicating with their groups. Without them, the Wascana women sections would not have the ongoing successes that we enjoy. So – until the snow melts, and the fairways can be used for golf instead of snowshoeing and cross country skiing, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Women’s Executive with your thoughts, comments and ideas. We welcome your input, and look forward to a fantastic golf season! Submitted by Michelle Hunter for Danica Love.
