Officer’s Message

“Reflections” As we wrapped up the 2nd Annual “I Heart Audit” Conference Wednesday night, I reflected on what transpired during the day. I am humbled and amazed with how your IIA SA Chapter pulled together to host “the event”. We achieved record attendance for a one day SA Chapter conference and early feedback was overwhelmingly positive. A special ‘thank you’ to the many volunteers within the SA Chapter and the student volunteers at the registration tables – doing whatever it takes – to be ready early morning. Then of course, our sponsors financially enabled us to host the event at the La Cantera Hill Country Resort; to cover expenses for world class speakers; and provided subject matter experts in a variety of areas. We were able to provide 8 hours of training at an incredible $25 per continuing professional education hour. Value delivered! If you attended, what was your favorite moment? Your favorite session? If we failed to meet your expectations, I want to know that too because we want to serve you better. Sponsors and volunteers make events like this possible. You make this worthwhile. Please complete the surveys and be candid. We will continue to look for ways to provide you with compelling training and the opportunity to network with your peers. We, as an IIA Chapter, aim to improve to support you in providing exceptional value to your organization and to give you ‘tools’ to advance your career. Remember to put “action” with commitment and intention (Thanks, Dan Thurmon!) to take this knowledge and make the most of 2016. Use the many IIA resources and “invest in yourself” as Lawrence Harrington advised. That said, we are now planning what I call Version 3.0 – the 3rd Annual “I Heart Audit” Conference for February 2017. Currently, we are considering the same venue, La Cantera, but in a larger main room so we will have more registrations available and possibly four tracks. Finally, we plan to provide the 2016 breakout session presentations in the pdf format for your notes and reference on the SA Chapter website.

IIA Blog - Richard Chambers President and CEO of the IIA

To Be "Agents of Change," Internal Auditors Must Embrace Change

One of my favorite quotes in motivating internal auditors of the urgency to change when warranted is drawn from the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, who noted, "All change is preceded by crisis." While I do not believe the profession faces a full-blown crisis in 2016, there are certainly imperatives to change as there always are for professions that are growing and evolving. A great resource to gauge what those imperatives are is The IIA's annual North American Pulse of Internal Audit from the Audit Executive Center, which has become an important tool for CAEs who have come to rely on its trending.
