TEAMPLAYER PROGRAM
This past month we highlighted the ‘L’ of TEAMPLAYER. Many examples of ‘lifelong learning’ were demonstrated by our students in their day-to-day routines here at Maple Wood.
For the month of March we will be focusing on the ‘A’ of TEAMPLAYER. An ‘achieving’
student accomplishes goals through skill, work and
courage. This individual strives to be successful. We are
confident that most, if not all of our students, will exemplify and
further develop the attributes of being an
‘achiever’, not only this month, but throughout the year.
MWPS SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS
On Friday, February 25th the School Council held a Dance-A-Thon and it was a great success! Not only did we raise lots of funds to replace the outdated monitors in the Computer Lab with flat screens, the students also had a wonderful time. The Council would like to thank Julie
Smithson and Candace Cassidy for organizing this event and also express our gratitude to Smithson Martin Productions for donating their time, the equipment
(including the Emulator screen!), and the sno-cone machine and supplies.
SAVE THE DATE! School Council is proud to present ‘Movie Night’ Friday, March 25th at 7pm in the school gym. All students and parents are invited to watch a free screening of ‘Despicable Me’, enjoy popcorn and pizza, and take part in the raffle for an autographed Lee Evans Buffalo Bills jersey
(courtesy of NFL Canada). Please make plans to join us for this fun event - details will be sent home shortly.
As always, please send any requests, comments or suggestions to our NEW Peel email address:

COLLABORATIVE INQUIRY IN MATH
This year our junior classroom teachers have been involved in a Collaborative Inquiry Learning project, focusing on math (CIL-M). We have been working closely with a network of other junior teachers from McBride Avenue P. S. and Sheridan Park P. S., with the support of many of our resource teachers. Every few months, teachers involved in this project visit one another’s classrooms/schools and have an opportunity to co-plan, co-teach and co-learn. This month, it was our turn to host the CIL-M session and our Gr. 6 students in had an opportunity to invite teachers from these schools into their classroom. The students demonstrated their problem-solving skills and took great pride in sharing their thinking and strategies. It was great sharing and learning for all!
