April 2017 EDITION Check us out at www.ellsaline.org ECHO March 13 Board Meeting Report All board members were present. All action was approved on a 7-0 vote unless noted otherwise. 7:00 P.M. REGULAR MEETING V. REPORTS BOE – Jamie Bradley reported on discussion at the Booster Club meeting relative to the purpose of the organiza- tion and potential projects to fund; Jeff Parker reported that the Larned Youth Center is now closed which has re- duced the amount of revenue generated to SHESC but some of those youth are now in Topeka which has caused a slight increase in revenue there and that SHESC is seeing an increase in schools utilizing their services which has also resulted in increased revenue. Mrs. Sprinkle – Her report included: math textbook series being adopted; handwriting series will be adopted soon; professional development needed for the Balanced Literacy program; and work being continued on the KESA model of accreditation. Mr. Wilson – His report included: a summary of the many winter activities that our students and staff have been involved in. Mr. Minneman – His report included: legislative items of interest; read one thank you note; and a list of dates that he will be attending meetings out of the district before the next meeting. VI. BUSINESS A. Accept Resignation—Margaret Shaver’s resignation as 4 th grade teacher effective at the end of this contract year was accepted. B. Approve Supplemental Positions—The following supplemental positions were approved: Chris Weems as Boys’ Golf Coach; and Chencho Arceo as the second Assistant Baseball Coach. C. Approve Student Out-of-State Travel—The following trips were approved: senior trip to Denver, CO from May 6 – 10; and Business Professionals of America to Orlando, FL from May 10 – 13. D. Storm Shelter Backup Power—This was tabled until a future meeting when additional quotes would be available. E. KESA Update—Information was shared on the State Board of Education’s goal of Kindergarten Readiness. This was an information/discussion item only. F. Board Policy – 1 st Reading—Since this was the first reading no action was taken. They will be brought back at the April meeting for possible action. There were two Executive Sessions: Personnel and Negotiations. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the District Office in Brookville. If anyone wishes to have an item added to the agenda, please contact President Mitch Drees, Vice-President John Fouard or the District Office two weeks prior to the meeting.

Booster Club Meeting Minutes March 8, 2017

In attendance: Robyn & Madonna Anglin, Jamie & Darcy Bradley, Laurie Came, Stacy Came, Darci Ditto, Michelle Griffin, Heather Hardesty, Angela Hopkins, Mendee Kramer, Valerie Linenberger, Jeanne Northcutt, Susie Omli, Greg Plott, Paul & Courtney Schneider, Julie Weems, Julie Work Account Balances – Booster checking balance- $17,060.61, MS Summer Basketball balance- $1408.05, Baseball

balance- $528.09 Discussion on projects that Booster Club could help fund. Members will be asking community members for ideas. Membership Update – No new memberships Discussion on making donation to Junior Class to help pay for Prom DJ. Valerie Linenberger moved we donate

$250 toward the DJ. Vote failed. Reviewed Clothing Sales for year. Square Pay was a success-will continue this next year. Youth Basketball Tournament was reviewed. Discussion on moving date earlier in the school year. Members are

looking into possible dates. Discussion about sponsoring Softball/Baseball Tournaments as a fund raiser this Spring. Members looking into

this possibility. Youth Track Meet will be April 22. Needing volunteers for all aspects of meet. Contact Darcy Bradley if you are

able to help in any way. Emails will be sent to ask for volunteers. Teacher Appreciation was discussed. Dates will be April 24, 25, & 27. Contact Julie Work if you are able to

donate/help with this event. Emails will be sent to ask for volunteers. Next Meeting will be Wednesday, May 3, 2017 7:00 pm in Commons Area.

MARCH STUDENT OF THE MONTH

The March High School Student of the month is Junior Zaide Korb. Zaide is

the son of Jason Korb and Lacey Smith. He is also the brother of Tyler and

Chase Korb and Darby, Colter, Aubrey, and Clayton Smith. In school, he is

involved in football, powerlifting, track, PALS, FCA, NHS, and is a Salina Vo-

Tech student. In his community, he is an AWANA listener and a member of

the FSBC youth group. In his spare time, Zaide enjoys bird hunting, big game

hunting, and helping on the family farm. After school, Zaide plans to finish

his Construction Technology degree at Salina Vo-Tech and enter the work

force. Way to go, Zaide!

The March Middle School Student of the month is seventh grader

Hunter DeGreeff. Hunter is the son of Randy and Becky De-

Greeff and the brother of Alida, Josh, and Lacey DeGreeff. In

school, he is involved in football, basketball, and track. In his

community, he participates in 4-H. In his free time, Hunter en-

joys hunting, fishing, and gardening. After school, he would like

to get a degree in agriculture. Great job, Hunter!
