IBGE Data on Health
• We are going to show most of IBGE researches providing data to be used in analyses on health concerning population, services and environment.
• We also want to expose the different ways we have to provide these data.
IBGE Institutional Mission
• The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE – is a National Coordinator of statistical and cartographic systems
• IBGE –is the main provider of data and information in the country and it fulfills the demands of several different segments of civil society, as well of other governmental institutions at federal, state and municipal level.
"To portray Brazil by providing the information required to the understanding of its reality and
the exercise of citizenship“
"To portray Brazil by providing the information required to the understanding of its reality and
the exercise of citizenship“
Structure
• IBGE is an institution ruled by the Federal Government and subject to the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management, which has four departments and two other central organs.
• In order to guarantee the coverage of the whole national territory, IBGE holds a national network of surveys and dissemination, which is formed by:– 27 State Units and Sectors of Information, Documentation and
Dissemination (26 in state capitals and 1 in the Federal District)
– 533 Data Collecting Agencies in the main municipalities of Brazil
Dissemination• The supply of information by IBGE is done through its
national network of dissemination, with offices in all the capitals and in the main cities of Brazil .
• This assortment of information consists of electronic and printed publications and of databases.
• Through the Internet, IBGE makes surveys results available as dynamic pages and downloadable files and databases (IBGE System of Automatic Recovery). IBGE also offers specialized consulting by e-mail ([email protected] or [email protected] ) and call-center (0800-218181) for fast user-assistance services.
Social and Demographic Statistics
• Among the data sources in this area, can be highlighted some surveys which are based on the collecting of data from households.
• The Demographic Census, which is done every ten years, consists of the core of social demographic statistics. In the middle of a decade, between two editions of the Census, there is the Population Count, a census operation intended to improve the annual population estimates.
Social and Demographic Statistics
• The National Household Sample Survey - PNAD, which is based on samples, investigates, every year, information on housing, income and labor, together with information related to demography and education.
• There was a Health supplement that collected information about referred morbidity status and healthcare demand. (1998, 2003 e 2008)
• This survey was substituted by the PNS (National Health Survey). 2013
Social and Demographic Statistics
• As one more source of information about the labor market, there is the Survey of Urban Informal Economy, which is released every five years. The monthly monitoring is done through the Monthly Employment Survey – PME.
• The Consumer Expenditure Survey - POF, which is also released every five years, brings information about the structure of income and expenditure of families.
• There are also the surveys based on administrative registers, such as the Civil Register, and the National Survey of Public Sanitation (PNSB).
Economic Statistics
• It brings information about the main sectors of economy: trade, industry, construction and services, using sample surveys of establishments in each sector. The Annual Survey of Trade (PAC), the Annual Survey of Industry (PIA), the Annual of Construction and the Annual of Services (ECINF) are examples of the most relevant works in this area. It is worth mentioning that the monitoring of economy aspects is possible due to the group of monthly surveys of trade, industry and agriculture.
System of National Accounts
• It offers an overall view of the economy and describes the main phenomena which constitute the economy: production, consumption, accumulation and wealth. The System of National Accounts of IBGE follows the most recent recommendation of the United Nations contained in the Manual of National Accounts – 1993 – SNA, including the calculation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the Input-Product Matrix.
Health Satellite Account
• This approach is fundamental for the knowledge of productive structure and dynamics of this sector – including financial aspects, interaction with the rest of the economy and the destination given to the goods and services produced – and for the formulation and implementation of policies aimed at a more effective use of public resources and at a better distribution of health benefits among the population.
Health statistics• The Survey of Medical-Sanitary Assistance – AMS,
which is a census of health facilities that is in review to incorporate financial and productivity indicators. (1975 to 1990, 1992, 1999, 2002, 2005 e 2009)
• The Youth National Health Survey – PeNSE, which is based on samples, investigates information on health risks and protectors factors from ninth year students. (2009, 2012)
