Marco Polo Xiamen Launches a Series of Activities
to Celebrate Marco Polo’s Birthday
13 October, 2016 (Xiamen, China) – 15th September is not only the Mid-Autumn festival in China,
but also the 762nd birthday of the notable Italian explorer Marco Polo. To honour the namesake of
the hotel, Marco Polo Xiamen launched a series of celebration activities for its guests, clients and
partners.
Greetings from Marco Polo – On 15 September, the dressed-up Marco Polo appeared at the hotel
lobby and outlets for greetings and handed out candy and moon cakes to hotel guests. The
delightful offerings were not just to honour Marco Polo’s birthday, but also acted as warm
sympathies on account of the No.14 strong typhoon Molandi that hit Xiamen that day, damaging
many areas of Xiamen.
Spreading Marco Polo’s China Odyssey – As the first Marco Polo hotel that opened in mainland
China, Marco Polo Xiamen featured a unique Stone Fresco in the lobby along with a flyer detailing
the history of Marco Polo the explorer. For carrying forward the exploring and innovative spirit of
Marco Polo, a series of actions by hotel include: a flyer featuring the story of Marco Polo was
designed and placed in each guestroom; Stone Fresco Introduction of “Marco Polo China Odyssey”
start at the Lobby Lounge from 4 pm on 15th September onwards daily, it’s a unique experience for
the hotel guests who can join a welcome tea and drink in the atrium area; what’s more, a special
bag displaying the stone fresco filled with candy was distributed to guests upon departure for their
memorable stay experience.

Spreading Marco Polo Culture - A tea party was hosted by the hotel on 4 September. 4 tea
industry experts and more than 40 tea lovers and were invited to share tea and Silk Road culture.
Ms. Millie Tsui, General Manager of Marco Polo Xiamen, attended the party and shared her tea
experience in Fujian and introduced Marco Polo’s China Odyssey, saying: “Marco Polo is one of the
most famous explorers to travel to China, setting out east along the Silk Road and staying in China
for 17 years. He was appointed as an ambassador and connected Eastern and Western culture.”
