President’s Council Minutes

Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Dr. Ward Harder and seconded by Dr. Eddie Stone to approve the minutes of the President’s Council Meeting held January 31, 2012. Academic Affairs- Dr. Scott Cook All significant items were included in the report submitted with the agenda. Student Affairs- Mr. Jerry Tunstill All significant items were included in the report submitted with the agenda Business Affairs-Mrs. Hilda Tunstill All significant items were included in the report submitted with the agenda. IT and Administrative Services- Dr. Eddie Stone All significant items were included in the report submitted with the agenda. Faculty Council- Dr. Ward Harder Dr. Harder announced the birth of his grandson, Walton Douglas Harder. Dr. Apple will be the guest speaker at Faculty Council meeting on Friday, March 23, at 9:00 AM in MT 155. Faculty is working with Dr. Apple to review the possibility of paying full time faculty at the 1/32 rate for two courses during the summer and are hoping to make forward progress on the salary plan study. Support Staff Council- Mrs. Cindy Jackson Support Staff members are actively serving on the following committees: Vicky Crews, Safety Committee; Brenda Swift and Joyce Bateman, Faculty Excellence Committee. The Support Staff Council and Administrative Council are working together to host a training event for the campus in May. Administrative Council –Sherry Mason No items reported. SGA- Ashley Greer, SGA President Homecoming was a very successful event. The “Kiss a Buck” Contest raised $320 that was given to Five Loaves For Kids. Members of SGA are actively participating on committees. SGA elections will be held April 30. Spring Fling is scheduled April 25 at the Moore County Campus. The Fayetteville campus offered free pizza to students during midterms February 27-March 1, and many activities are planned at the campus during the following weeks. The Smyrna campus will host a Spring Fling April 20. After going through the process, Motlow did not have a nominee to submit for the TBR Student Regent. Affirmative Action- Ms. Laura Jent All significant items were included in the report submitted with the agenda. The Annual Non- Faculty Performance Review Request will be sent out March 26.

Student and Campus Relations- Ms. Brenda Cannon February was an exceptionally busy month with many activities planned and well supported at all campus locations. Upcoming campus events were reviewed. Dr. Hazel O’Leary will be our guest speaker on Monday, March 26, as we honor National Women’s History Month. Final Exams are scheduled April 27-May 3. Student Success- Ms. Rhonda Cotham Mr. Sydney McPhee was introduced to the group. He will be serving as the Assistant Director of Student Success. After he has completed training at the Moore County Campus, he will then transfer to the Smyrna Campus, which will serve as his home base. FAST (Freshman Academic Success Team) has been implemented and is growing quickly. This team of qualified Motlow individuals was created to assist the Student Services staff with new freshman summer orientation sessions. Preregistration information has been sent out to students. DegreeWorks has been implemented, and training is going well. Minor glitches were fixed promptly by the IT staff. This will be a great tool for the institution and students to utilize. Institutional Effectiveness- Sylvia Collins There were no items to report. Good News/Discussion Items

• Ms. Brenda Cannon did an exceptional job organizing many activities at all of the Motlow campus locations.

• Our athletes received many compliments from tournament directors and motel staff of the manner in which our athletes conducted themselves at TCCAA/Region Tournaments held in Jackson, TN. Mrs. Regina Burden and coaches are positive influences and role models to our athletes.

• Motlow will host the TCCAA Region Tournament in 2013. It will be a very busy time at the campus, and we will need the assistance of many staff members. Any maintenance items should be scheduled as soon as possible to ensure that they are handled in a timely manner.

President’s Comments • Dr. Stone and Dr. Apple have met with the architect firm managing the Smyrna

expansion. They have confirmed that construction costs are rising approximately 1% per month. Tentatively, construction is planned to begin July 15. Motlow is continuing to fundraise in a difficult climate. The building will be geothermal, and site foundation preparation work is expensive. We would like to begin classes in August 2013 at the new building

• Enrollment- Our growth at Smyrna has reached its max until we have a new building. It is important that the institution hold its own at all locations. Retention and graduation are imperative to funding for us.

• Judge Vanessa Jackson will be our graduation speaker, and Regent Fran Marcum will be

here to bring greetings from the TBR at the 10:00 am ceremony on May 5.

• The Motlow College Foundation Gala was held March 3, with a total of approximately $39,000 cleared. These funds will be utilized for student scholarships.

• We have organized a committee that will begin working together on the SACS Fifth Year

Report.

• Future dates of President’s Council meetings are as follows: o April 17
