JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY

The following churches have designated holy doors, through which the faithful may pass towards the path of spiritual renewal. St. Dominic Savio, Bellflower St. Mary of the Assumption, Whittier Church of the American Martyrs,

Manhattan Beach St. Catherine of Alexandria, Avalon St. Anthony Church, Long Beach

5 Ways to Live the Year of Mercy

1. Attend Mass or Pray before the Blessed Sacrament.

2. Make Profession of Faith.

3. Go to Confession or Sacrament of Reconciliation.

4. Receive Holy Communion.

5. Pray for the Holy Father and his inten-tions.

In particular, taking into consideration the spirit of this Holy Year, it is suggested that pilgrims recite the lovely prayer of Pope Francis for the Jubilee, and conclude the time of prayer with an invocation to the merciful Lord Jesus (for example, “Merciful Jesus, I trust in You”).

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

This coming Friday is the First Friday of the month. We will have Eucharistic Adoration at 7pm in our church. In our prayers, we include vocations, all the needs of our parish, and our families.

“Could you not watch one hour with me?” - Mark 14:37

LENTEN REFLECTION at Maria Regina Church

The annual observance of Lent is the special season for the ascent to the holy mountain of Easter.

Catechumens are led to the sacraments of initiation by means of the rite of election, the scrutinies, and the

catechesis.

The faithful, listening more intently to the word of God and devoting themselves to prayer, are prepared through a spirit of repentance to renew their baptismal promises (Ceremony of Bishops, 249).

You are welcome to reflect on the Lenten Sunday Readings with Sister Ugocha Chukwuleta every Tuesday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

Classes begin February 16, 2016. Please register by calling the church office or by completing and turning in this form (offertory basket or to the church office) soon so that we may prepare for you. Thanks.

THE GREAT HYMN TO LOVE It is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians, knew that he was penning what was to become one of the keystones of Christian ethics. In this brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centuries. Some-times we may think that because these are ideals to which we aspire, we are excused from them in our daily living. But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some sound advice about what it meant—and still means—to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Today we hear what this love must look like in our own actions, and how it ought to guide our relationships with others. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
