The work of many that happens behind the scenes needs to be acknowledged because it culminates into a beautiful and faith-filled experience for the whole community. Sadly, Alan Le Brocque was not able to share today with us in person, however, he was certainly with us in spirit. At the commencement of the Mass a message from Alan was shared. I thought it was appropriate to share these words with you. "Marian Catholic College Feast Day is an important day for the school community. This year it is even more special as we are blessing our statue of Mary and our new Vision and launching our Mission Statement . As a Marian school it is appropriate to see a visual representation of Mary in the centre of our school. May it provide a reminder to all that pass by her, that we are in Mary's care, like Jesus was in his infancy. May her gentle strength continue to inspire us, nurturing and supporting us in our daily life. In a beautiful coincidence, on this very day, May 22nd, I am standing in front of 'Our Lady of Fatima' in Portugal and I am praying that Mary continues to bless our work at the College. I hope our statue of Mary will be a focal point for prayer, reflection and encouragement each day at Marian. Our other important event today is the public launch of our new Vision and Mission Statement. The Marian Catholic College Vision and Mission Statement is a whole community effort of staff, parents, students and the Catholic Schools Office and I thank all who have contributed in shaping its formation. I am pleased that it honours both the Marist Brothers and Mercy Sisters through references to 'embracing Mary's courageous acceptance' and ' love and mercy'. It also echoes Bishop Hanna's Mandate for Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga by including the five pillars of Faith, Learning, Care, Service and Stewardship. Like all such statements of purpose, it should be a starting point for action, providing possibilities for all to see opportunities to bring it to life personally and as a group. Like our statue of Mary, may it inspire all of us to be the best person we can be, and in this way, we are living a life blessed by God. Congratulations today, on our Feast Day, Mary Help of Christians and I wish everyone a successful and happy day." Hail Mary, full of grace.

Our Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,

Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today our College community has come together to celebrate Marian Feast Day and launch our new College Vision and Mission Statement. Many people have contributed to making today a success, however, I would particularly like to acknowledge Belinda Aventi for her organisation and creative flair . Her hard work and talents were integral to ensuring that our celebration was so special. Finally, I would like to thank our parents, College Council members and special guests; Alan Bowyer, Director of Schools, Brother Michael Akers from the Marist Brothers and Sister Rita Savage, Sister Shirley Garland and Sister Theresa Foley from the Sisters of Mercy. Learning and Teaching News

I was very proud to be involved in the first of our Half Yearly Academic Award Ceremonies with Year 12 receiving their awards Thursday 21st May. There are four areas recognised by the College: Subject awards for academic achievement in a given subject.

Merit awards given to students who have consistently demonstrated a positive attitude and application in a subject.

Marian awards for students demonstrating sound effort and commitment to studies, across all subjects. As well as showing respect for school values and expectations.

Principal awards for outstanding academic achievement across all subjects.

Ms Scoble in her Principal’s address spoke about the HSC being a “team game” and the importance of students collaborating and sharing ideas as they lead up to their HSC examinations. By sharing ideas students develop high level thinking skills, increase retention, stimulate critical reasoning and helps students clarify ideas. It was pleasing to see over thirty parents and family members attending the ceremony. Marian sees education as a partnership and I’d like to thank the parents and community members for your attendance. Lastly, it was brilliant to see eleven students receive the prestigious Principal’s Award and upwards of 95% of the cohort receive at least one award. It is very pleasing that so many students are putting their learning first at the College.

The NSW Netball Schools Cup

The NSW Netball Schools Cup was held on Tuesday at Jubilee Oval. Marian sent 2 girls teams and 1 boys team. The

day went well until the storm came through and the carnival had to be suspended during Round 8. Unfortunately the last

3 rounds were unable to be played. Up until then, the teams played extremely well and showed great teamwork and

sportsmanship.

Team 1 lost against Griffith High but defeated Lake Cargelligo convincingly, they won against West Wyalong and were

playing Wade High when play was suspended.

Team 2 defeated Wade High and Griffith High convincingly, their third game was suspended.

The boys team played wonderfully, they won against Griffith High, but unfortunately went down to Wade High and won

convincing against West Wyalong High School.

I would like to congratulate all players for their effort and sportsmanship. I would also like to thank our umpires; Jessie

and Jamie Lewis, Erin Golden and Megan Beecher.

Congratulations to Tanna Collins, Julia Forner, Mea Riley, Nayani Navaneethan, Lauren Bertolin, Lucy Patsalides,

2015 Maths Excursion to City Park Last Thursday, May 21, all the Year 8 Maths classes went to City Park where they consolidated and enhanced their understanding of measurement through real world problem solving. The activities involved working in groups to solve a variety of mathematical problems at several stations around the park. All students were engaged in making the connections between the work in the classroom and the outside world environment. This activity will be followed by a task where students will design their own inquiry into measurement in their home environment.
