    Visit the home of the 29th President ofthe United States, Warren G. Harding,and his wife, Florence. This was the sitethat launched his quest for the presidencyin 1920. The Hardings lived here untilthey moved to Washington, D.C., beforehis inauguration as President. Inside thehome is Harding's White House chinaalong with the many original furnishings.

    Carved through a rustic wooded landscape, Paradise Park

    showcases 18-holes of challenging Miniature Golf. After

    Heritage Hall, listed on the National

    Register of Historic Places, is the former

    Marion Post Office Building and head-

    quarters for the Marion County Historical

    Society (MCHS).

    It also houses the Historical Society's

    museum of Marion history, Harding

    Collections, the Rinker/Houser ResourceCenter, and the Wyandot Popcorn

    Museum. The Society's collections

    include artifacts, documents, and photo-

    graphs that are used in exhibitions and

    programs. MCHS's Harding Presidential

    Collections chronicle the life and career

    of Warren G. Harding, the 29th President

    of the United States. May-October:

    Wednesday-Sunday 1-4 p.m.; Nov., Dec.,March, April: Sat. and Sun. 1-4 p.m. (Jan.

    and Feb. by appointment.) Admission

    includes the Wyandot Popcorn Museum.

    Museum contains examples of

    machinery built by the Huber

    Manufacturing Company and the

    Marion Steam Shovel Company,

    including steam engines, farm and

    road equipment and a steam shovel.

    You'll find Huber's first patent, the

    wood revolving hay rake, which hestarted producing in 1865. As an

    inventor, industrialist and philanthro-

    pist, Huber was largely responsible for

    Marion's industrialization and wealth in

    the mid-1800s. Open 1-4 p.m. Saturdays

    or by appointment.

    The Linn Schoolhouse

    Located on St. Rt. 4 NorthCall the Marion County Historical Society

    at 740-387-4255 for open hours or to

    schedule a visit. One-room schoolhouses

    are part of our history - a rich history full

    of memories. In Marion County, there

    were at least 130 such structures, built to

    offer students the opportunity to obtain an

    education, especially in rural areas. The

    Linn Schoolhouse was rescued andrestored through the generosity of broth-

    ers Merle and Oliver Hamilton, since the

    two had fond memories of attending

    school there in the early 1900s.

    Mysterious Revolving BallMarion Cemetery, 620 Delaware Ave.

    740-387-7050. For more than 100 years,a 5,200 pound ball of polished black

    granite has been slowly rotating on a

    pedestal in the Marion Cemetery.

    Featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not in

    1929, there have been many specula-

    tions, but still no explanation, for this

    mystery. Open during cemetery hours.

    tion every day. The museum showcases

    an impressive collection of memorabilia

    and the AC Tower, which was once the

    main switching facility for the Erie

    Railroad, Marion Division. The unusual

    Marion County Fairgrounds hosts many

    Marion CountyFireman's MemorialA fitting tribute to 11 area fallen fire-

    fighters, this is a striking monumentbuilt from black and gray granite. Theblack polished wing panels adorn theFireman's Prayer and Honor Roll.

    Receiving & Holding Vault

    Originally built to safely hold bodies soguards were no longer needed at the

    cemetery. In 1923 it held the body of

    Warren G. Harding and, the following

    year, his wife Florence's body with

    twenty-four hour, seven-day-a-week

    Marine guards.

    Soldiers & Sailors ChapelAcross from the World War II Memorial.

    Dedicated in 1888, the chapel has

    been a focus of the county's Memorial

    Day event. Its walls bear the names of

    Marion's first veterans - 2,800 men who

    fought the Revolutionary War, the War

    of 1812, the Mexican-American War

    and Civil War.

    World War II MemorialAn awe-inspiring ornate World War II

    monument. The names of men and

    women who enlisted from Marion

    County and served in WWII are

    inscribed on this granite structure.

    Aye Rock at Claridon CemeteryOn Rt. 95, the monument marking theAye family is a huge boulder called TheRock. It is a stone formation weighingapproximately 65 tons.

    Gypsy Queen GraveQueen (Cleo) Ann Judge was travelingthrough Marion County with a band of

    gypsies in the early 1900s. She diedduring childbirth in1905 and was buriedin the non-Catholicsection of SaintMary's Cemetery. Hergrave is marked withan old wooden cross,as well as a new

    stone marker.

    Lady JusticeLady Justice gleams above the MarionCounty Courthouse. She had been miss-ing from the dome of the courthouse for29 years. In 1980 she was totallyrestored and replaced.

    Pillar at LaRue CemeteryIn 1926, while the Harding Memorialwas being constructed, a pillar wascracked. It was decided the pillar wouldbe used as a monument in the cemeteryon Rt. 37.

    The Wilhelm-Seiter Log Cabin

    and SmokehouseLocated at the Marion CountyFairgrounds. The log cabin was con-structed in 1851 with logs from woodson the farm. The cabin once stood sixmiles west of the Fairgrounds on SeiterRd. in Big Island Township. There is alsoa Smokehouse located near the relocat-ed log cabin.

    corridor was handed over to theMarion Parks District, a year of plan-ning and hard work has broughtresults for the Marion Tallgrass Trail.The trail head building has been com-

    pleted and the first phase of asphalt andconcrete were poured in late fall of 2010.Throughout 2012 the Marion Tallgrass

    Trail will continue to grow - one foot at atime. When complete, the 12 miles willoffer loads of fun for the family for walk-ing, biking, hiking and more.
