Mother was Lucius Caesar, while his father was Marcus Antonius Creticus. He had two brothers, those being Gaius and Lucius. His father was given power only because he was unable to abuse or use the power properly. His father died early on in Antony’s life.

His mother remarried, marrying Publius Cornelius Lentulus, a patrician. Due to the extravagance of his lifestyle and gambling, left him and his new family with huge debts. He was killed in 63 BC.

Antony became a heavy gambler in his adulthood, not become involved with anything unless it had to do with gambling away fortunes.

When Caesar died, Antony was fighting a war on two fronts. One was against Caesar’s killer, and the other was against those who wanted to avenge Caesar. He could have very well assured leadership had Octavian, Caesar’s nephew had not appeared, claiming the right of heir, demanding Caesar’s political power for his own.

In the following months, Antony gained strength with the armies on in the Western Roman Empire. Octavian however realized the government was using him. He formed an alliance with Antony and Lepidus, forming what is now known as the second Triumvirate.
