Issue Two April 2019 Andy Beaumont Last December I welcomed you to the first edition of our new Newsletter edited by our Provincial Communications Officer W.Bro. Bob Chalmers. I hope you enjoyed it and that you will also enjoy this edition as well. If you have any comments or suggestions please let us have your feedback - Bob and I really would like to receive them. At that time, I said that I hoped the new Newsletter would work in conjunction with the website to ensure that the Brethren are kept informed with what is going on and to help them increase their enjoyment of Mark and Royal Ark Masonry. I hope you think we are making progress towards this goal. W.Bro. Bob Chalmers has worked hard with the Secretaries and Scribe around the Province and is always pleased to receive articles. Please share your thoughts, successes and news so they can be appreciated by all whether about the Lodge, the Brethren, existing or new, or any social or fund-raising events. Photographs are always most welcome. Without you help in sending us the information nobody will know what a great time you are having in your Lodges. By now Christmas is but a distant memory and many of those well-intentioned New Year’s resolutions that we all made have gone the same way. The New Year period is a time when we start thinking afresh and make plans for the future and in the Province, it is that happy time of year when we consider, agree and then announce the new Provincial Officers to be invested at our Annual Provincial Meeting in June. The support that I and the other members of the Provincial Executive have received from the current Active Officers has been truly outstanding. I thank them all very much for giving up their time and for regularly turning out in such large numbers. To those Brethren who I will have the pleasure to invest in June, many congratulations. You have earned and deserve your appointment to Active Provincial Rank, or your promotion in Past Rank, by the hard work you have put in and the support you have already given. Another very rewarding task for me is consider the recommendations I make to the Grand Master regarding Mark Grand Ranks. This year W.Bro. Frank Fletcher will receive promotion to Past Grand Junior Overseer in September making him a V.W.Bro. and W.Bro. Roger Prince will receive a first appointment to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. Both these Brethren can regularly be seen visiting Lodges around the Province and the honours they will receive are very well deserved. Our Annual Provincial Meeting, which is again being held at the Melksham Assembly Rooms, starts at 11 am on Thursday 20 th June 2019. It would be great to see as many people as possible there. All Brethren are most welcome, particularly new Advancees and Elevatees, and it would be good to see all Lodges in the Province well represented. If you want to attend and dine please return the reply slip by Monday 4 th June 2019. If you would like to attend but don’t want to dine; that is fine, as is just turning up to dine if, unfortunately for some reason, you can’t make the meeting in the morning. Finally, I would like to thank all the Brethren of the Province for the support they have given me again so far this year. It’s always a pleasure and privilege for me to visit the Lodges around the Province and experience all the fun and enjoyment the Brethren obtain from their meetings and ceremonies and the happy festive boards afterwards. I’m also pleased and encouraged by the quality of the ritual I’ve seen during my Lodge visits. Let’s look forward to continuing to work together in developing and enjoying the Mark and Royal Ark Mariners Degrees in Wiltshire.

Provincial Charity Steward

W.Bro Ian Dunbar

The Mark Benevolent Fund has carved out a reputation for disinterested and selfless concern for thewell-being of others, giving an average of over £206,000 each year for the last one hundred and fifty years toindividuals in need and worthy causes which benefit the wider community.

It is this outward looking aspect of the work of the Fund that we particularly paid homage to, at a specialmeeting of Mark Grand Lodge, with representatives in attendance from charitable organisations that havebenefited from grants to worthy causes in 2018.

We have been delighted to work closely with each of the charities represented by providing funding fortransport, medical equipment, buildings, furniture and many other items to complete or progress projects ina wide range of areas. The support provided to these organisations by the Mark Benevolent Fund has enabledeach of them to achieve their goals more quickly than might otherwise have been the case.

The partnerships we have forged with over fifty charitable organisations in 2018 will endure and underlinethe Mark Benevolent Fund’s commitment to practice charity in its broadest sense.

W.Bro Nigel Dalby

Dear Brethren,

It gives me great pleasure to contribute again to the new newsletter.

Since the previous edition of the newsletter we have sadly had several Brethren and Ladies pass to the GrandLodge above. I have attended a number of these funerals and celebrations of their lives and have met with theirfamilies and friends. I have been moved (but not surprised) by the numbers of Mark and RAM Brethrenattending these occasions and the warmth of the welcome and camaraderie.

I feel that the website and newsletter have both proved very successful in getting important information to theBrethren and would encourage you to keep contributing to both of them.

It is still my intention to visit more Mark and RAM Lodges to get around the Province and meet more Brethren.

Please contact me with any issues you have – my contact details are:Tel: 01722 332901 Mob: 07840370264 email: [email protected]

"The original Alms Bags were given to the Lodge in 1918 by W.Bro. SholtoHare, when he was Worshipful Master, he also donated to the Province theceremonial sword in 1917.

Border MMM Lodge 1143 - Ludgershall

Brother Stephen J Smith writes, I had the privilege ofaccompanying W Bro David Hawkins (the Border MarkLodge Charity Steward) to a presentation of a cheque to theLeader and to the young Rainbows Guides at ShiptonBellinger.

The cheque was for £350 to cover the registration fees forthis newly formed troop, who had been struggling to makeends meet and to continue their good work with the young-sters.

Bro Paul Bilbao (Border Lodge No 3129) is the husband ofthe group leader (Emma) and he was aware from conversa-tions that I had had with Emma (I have, on behalf, of theLodge been supporting Emma in devising a 5 year businessplan and financial projection), that Border Mark were look-

ing at potential organisations that would benefit from a donation from our Charity Account. In discussion with Lodge elders it was felt that this was a very worthy cause and hence the donation.

Wiltshire Downs MMM Lodge 1843 - Warminster

On Thursday 14th March Alan Kerr was elevated into Concord RAM. and was treated to a magnificent ceremony buy themembers. He said “For me it was a very sincere meeting filled with brotherly love.It has been a long time since Concordhave had a candidate but you wouldn’t know as all officers performed perfectly.”

The W. Commander. W.Bro. Simon Finn has been in the chair for two years without a candidate, and is changing over atthe next meeting, I was so glad to have been elevated on his last meeting so he and his officers could put to good use thelong hours they have spent with the ritual.

A short spell without any candidates was brought to an end at Warminster RAM Lodge 1110 on Tuesday 12th Februarywhen the Mark Provincial Communications Officer W.Bro. Bob Chalmers was elevated into the Lodge.

An excellent ceremony, which was conducted by The Worshipful Commander, W.Bro Tony Wilcox ably assisted by hisofficers was witnessed by several visitors including the PGM R.W.Bro Andy Beaumont and the past PGM R.W.Bro MartinBrown, making it a bumper evening for the Lodge.

This will hopefully mark the start of a positive period for the Lodge as there are two more candidates in the queue already.

The first of which Bro. Liam Reid was elevated at the meeting of 9th April.

The next meeting will be the installation so the remaining candidate remains in hand for the following meeting.
