Zuckerberg started his high school education at Ardsley High School in Ardsley, New York, but he found that this school wasn’t challenging him enough so he transferred to Phillips Exeter Academy, a boarding school in Exeter, New Hampshire.

After graduating high school, he attended Harvard University but dropped out after his sophomore year.

Zuckerberg developed an interest in computers at early age.

When he was about 12, he used Atari BASIC to developed a messaging programmed called ‘Zucknet’.

His father used the programme in his dental office so that the receptionist could inform him of a new patient without yelling across the room.

The Zuckerberg family also used zucknet to communicate within the house.

Together with his friends, who were artists, he used to create computer games for fun.

To keep up with his interest in computers his father hired a computer tutor to work with him who soon realised that it was tough to stay ahead of the prodigy.

On October 28, 2003 Zuckerberg got the idea to create Facemash.

How Facebook began?

Facemash was a Harvard version of Hot or Not. It compared two people and the users voted on which one was “hotter”.

Zuckerberg hacked into Harvard’s computer network to obtain the pictures of students from the different dorm’s online Facemash.

The site was shut down a few days later by the Harvard administration so he was to removed from the school.

Inspired by an article in The Harvard Crimson about the Facemash incident, Zuckerberg started writing code for a new site.

originally located at thefacebook.com from his dorm room at Harvard.
