2DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES MARKET OPPORTUNITY: ADVANCED ANALYTICS FOR PRODUCTION OPTIMIZATION OF UPSTREAM ASSETS
Advanced-analytics-based production optimization of upstream assets is the use of algorithms and
software to statistically analyze, model, and optimize parameters (topside focus) to improve
production efficiency.
Today, operators in Qatar perform production optimization on offshore assets, mainly using static
reservoir models.
It will be possible to utilize more big data analytics engines to analyze larger historical data sets in
real time and identify unknown correlations/dependencies.
To implement this, there will be demand for services and software related to data structuring,
modeling, and system integration.
This type of production optimization can be expected to be implemented in approximately 20
facilities throughout upstream players in Qatar over the next five years.
As a result, there will be growing demand for analytics software and services estimated to be a
total of approximately QAR 200M over five years (including implementation and ongoing
support/maintenance costs).
Incentives for local sourcing can be provided through land allocation in free zones, ICV
procurement schemes, and easing of the regulatory environment for business.
There is potential for growth through the emergence of a new market for machine learning and
AI-based services and software.

Key highlights
Advanced-analytics-based production optimization is currently not performed by upstream
operators in Qatar.
In the next five years, production optimization using advanced analytics is expected to be
implemented in 20 upstream facilities by ramping up four facilities per year on average.
This will lead to a total demand of approximately QAR 200M over five years, including
implementation and ongoing support and maintenance costs.
There is potential for growth through the emergence of a new market for machine learning and AI-
based services and software.
