Top price per kilo was 232p for a smart 630kg Limousin x heifer from Messrs. J. & J. Sawle & Son of Beacon selling at £1,462 to R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Top steer was a 694kg Limousin x from Mr. T.H. Lobb of Ruthernbridge realising 227p/kg and a huge price of £1,575 to David Wilton of Peter Morris Butchers, St. Columb. A heavier 706kg Limousin x steer from Mr. Lobb also selling well at 220p/kg and £1,553 to Chris Dale, Butcher of Helston.

    Probably one of the strongest trades ever with fierce competition between the buyers to secure not only the well-fleshed finished sorts but also those for further fattening. Super Limousin x cows in from Mr. W.P. Thomas of Threemilestone sold to a premium of 178p/kg to David Ellis of Lelant, with a heavier 667kg cow close behind at 174p/kg realising £1,161 to David King of Exeter. Also up there at 158p/kg was a big 729kg Limousin x from Messrs. P.V. & C.S. Forway making top money of £1,152 to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Leading Friesian from Messrs. D.C. & W.A. Thomas of Tresillian at 139p/kg was their big 891kg cow making a tremendous price, topping the lot, at £1,238 to Dawn West Devon.

    STORE CATTLE

    A good number of some of the best quality and forward store cattle ever seen with prices to match!!

    A run of 16 mainly South Devon x cattle 21-22 months old on behalf of Mr. T.G. Hawke of Colan hit £1,445 and including two heifers (£1,340 top) averaged £1,360!! His top pair were the dearest in memory at £1,445, with further pairs at £1,405 to the same buyer, with further pairs snapped up by a different buyer at £1,390 and £1,380, and a younger single Hereford £1,275. At a similar age were an entry of grand South Devons again this week for Mr. J.R. Stephens of St. Winnow with a trio at £1,280. A dozen cracking pure-bred Charolais cattle from Messrs. W.F. Palmer & Son of Ruan High Lanes saw steers to £1,195 with one at 20 months old, the older heifers topping at £1,200 for a 22 month old trio, the five younger heifers down to 18 months old and all £1,040. An entry of five young Hereford x steers 11 months old for Mr. R.H. Eddy of St. Just realised £765. Other good heifer prices included a pair of British Blue crosses 22 months old for Mr. N. Doble of St. Agnes at £1,090.

Trembath of Zennor at just 4 weeks old leading at £240. A super entry of 3 month old stirks on behalf of Messrs. A.D. & J.A. Bray of St. Martin saw their three Limousin x males all £445.

    A mixed quality entry, but trade just as dear across the board. Producers are advised to market finished hogs on the current strong prices. Topping at £127.50 were a super pen of heavyweights from Messrs. T.B. & M.B. Osborne of St. Eval purchased by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. A consignment of four pens of well-finished hogs from Messrs. P.T.R. & P.E. Jones & Son of Crantock saw their best-pick realise £123 to J.V. Richards Ltd. A good run from Mr. J. Greenaway of Bodmin saw two pens of handyweight Texels both selling at a premium of 263p/kg to J.V. Richards Ltd.
