NEWS RELEASESFebruary 24, 2017Jackson College automotive program named one of top in nation
Jackson College’s automotive service technology recently gained high marks from the website Aceable.com, being named one of the top 16 automotive technology college programs in the country.
The College’s automotive program prides itself on preparing students for today’s career opportunities in an industry that is constantly changing. Cars, parts, and tools allow students to enhance their practical skills. Classes are divided between lectures and hands-on, task-based practice. The College offers an associate degree and certificate programs, as well as skill sets and concentrations in automotive technology. The program is accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).
“At Jackson College, our instructors are all graduates of the program; they are caring instructors who want to give back,” said Chris Kaser, instructor, automotive technology. “Our instructors are professional auto technicians teaching the classes. They work hands-on every day with what they are teaching the students.”
Aceable is a drivers education organization that provides certification programs for parents and teachers to teach students how to drive.

February 17, 2017Jackson College Foundation receives Weatherwax Foundation grant
Thanks to the generosity of the Weatherwax Foundation, the lobbies and mezzanine of the Potter Center at Jackson College may receive an upgrade with help from a recent $200,000 challenge grant. In order to receive the grant, the Jackson College Foundation must secure gifts and commitments of $267,250 by June 30, 2017.
“We are deeply grateful for the challenge grant from the Weatherwax Foundation to spur on the first phase of refurbishments to the Potter Center,” said Jason Valente, president, Jackson Foundation. “The Potter Center is a gem in the community, and we look forward to partnering with our donors and friends of the College to raise the funds needed to receive the match and more importantly to initiate this much-needed refurbishment.”
The Potter Center was built in 1976, with the Harold Sheffer Music Hall completed in 1980. It is a versatile and complete performing arts complex that has welcomed performers of all kinds over the years and nearly 50,000 patrons annually. Recent investments have been made by the College to the Potter Center cafeteria, HVAC systems, and roof. The Potter Center performing arts spaces, however, require renovation and refurbishment. While some technical equipment has been replaced, and some lobby carpet was replaced about 15 years ago, most everything else is original. If the Foundation can raise the matching funds, the Potter Center renovation will provide for new carpeting in the theater lobbies, grand stairway, and mezzanine. It will allow repairs to the existing elevators and replacement of the personnel car. Upgrades are also planned to theater entryways, wall surfaces, and ceilings. Total project cost is $467,250.
In order to receive the challenge match from the Weatherwax Foundation, contributions and commitments must be made by June 20, 2017. Pledges are welcome and may be extended over three years. For more information or to contribute online, visit www.jccmi.edu/
