The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix hosted its signature STEM event, Connect2STEM, on January 26, 2019. The family-friendly fun day of learning and discovery encourages youth of all ages to experience the wonder of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math – and Medicine in downtown Phoenix.
Connect2STEM is the largest STEM event in Phoenix. The 5th annual event set a new attendance record of 9,000 guests. Over 180 activities led by professionals in the field allow children to engage in hands-on learning and to see themselves in a STEM-related career.

AZ SCITECH KICKOFF CONFERENCE
The 8th Annual Arizona SciTech Kickoff Conference brought together over 1,200 collaborators, business leaders, educators and community members to promote and enhance STEM in Arizona. Connect2STEM is the highly-anticipated official event of a statewide celebration of STEM education held annually in February and March.
BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE
The 48th Annual Scottsdale Auction of collector cars and automobilia was held January 12-20, 2019, at WestWorld of Scottsdale, Arizona. This was Barrett-Jackson’s most successful auction ever. Generating $131.6 million in total sales, the event also set a new record for attendance with over 350,000 car enthusiasts.
Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson said, “The skyrocketing number of millennial and Gen-X buyers demonstrates how vibrant and exciting it is to be at Barrett-Jackson for all generations.”
Barrett-Jackson is committed to the advancement of STEM. The Kids Zone entertains the younger generation of car enthusiasts with a variety of STEM activities. The UA College of Medicine — Phoenix was invited to anchor the Kids Zone. Children of all ages were introduced to science — and medicine — with the Wildcat Play Hospital and simulation mannequin activities.

Summer Scrubs is a health career exploration program organized by the College that helps high school students prepare for their future in the health professions. Under-resourced students get the opportunity to participate in professional lectures, health-related field trips and hands-on lab experiences.
Southwest Airlines donated two round-trip tickets to be raffled in support of the Summer Scrubs Program. The raffle raised $1,200, which will fund the purchase of scrubs for all 96 Summer Scrubs participants.
