Ringed by cafés, Salo marketplace received an overwhelming, 75% majority of the 1,500 votes when the readers of Maaseudun Tulevaisuus voted for the best marketplace in Finland in August 2016. In the summer, the Salo marketplace is extremely busy and popular. The mar- ketplace is a public living room, and people of all ages enjoy visiting the market- place cafés. In addition to the market days themselves, there are many different events, such as the famous and popular evening markets on summer Thurs- days (June–August). The evening markets offer Finnish performing artists, trade stalls, pancakes, second-hand goods and a flea market for children's clothing. Other marketplace events include: Sunday programmes, the Spring and Au- tumn markets, the old car event and Hyvänmielentori (Feelgood market). In the winter, there is a skating rink with atmospheric lighting. The marketplace is constantly developing and offers possibilities for a wide variety of events.
