! Before, Melbourne used to be a smalltown owned by traditional settlers such as

Aborigines of the Kulin Nation, the traditional

    owners.

Then everything changed when John Batman

came in 1835 and bought around 240, 00

hectares of land from the Aboriginal leaders.

The concept of buying and selling was new for the

Aboriginal culture. They received tools, flour, and

    clothing as payment.

The trading was very one sided and the people who

bought it got much richer, and wealthier, compared tothe Aboriginals.

As a result 10,000 Europeans living in the area in the

1840s eventually got wealthy from the gold fields

built around the city. While the Aboriginal people

due to the loss of their land, had lower population.

Other Aboriginal people were killed in violent battles

over the rights of some land, a vast number also died

from hunger because they had no food as they rely onnature for their food source and living. Lack of food

    Anecdote: Werribee Open Range Zoo

! I just love going to Melbourne WerribeeOpen Range Zoo! When my family strolled inside

the zoo everything was just so natural, and

miraculous, because there were lots of intriguing

trees, and different types of fascinating animals. But

it was just beginning to get better because I bolted

into a safari car and the worker took us to a wide-

open place where we could see giraffes, zebras,

hippos, lions and other interesting species close up. I

loved when we got to the zebras because feeding

them was really entertaining, but also unpleasant

because the zebras ate it like they havent eaten forcenturies, and all the spit, muck, and liquid from the

food kept bursting out.! My family especially enjoyed petting theanimals; after taking a tour around the zoo, the

worker took us to a souvenir store. The souvenir

store was tremendously wide because it took me

awhile to find my way back to the main entrance! I

really loved the store because for instance, there

were a lot of stuffed animals, the workers were really

polite, and there were a lot of souvenirs to pick! I

will never forget my trip to the Melbourne WerribeeOpen Range Zoo!

The businessman and explorer John Batman established the city of

Melbourne in 1835. It is located at Port Philip Bay, in the southeast of

the continent. Port Philip Bay lies just across Bass Strait from

Australias island state of Tasmania. In the past, people sailed toMelbourne because the Victorian Gold Rush was happening and

people wanted to get some land and resources. Today people come to

Melbourne because it is safe and clean, living is affordable,

transportation and driving is comfortable and nice, health and

medical care is reliable, there are a lot of job opportunities, and the

crime rate is very low, the city ranks highly in international research

on livable cities, and education and childcare is highly excellent.

Currently in the city of Melbourne, there are 3,850,000 million

people living in Melbourne. There are 60 different nationalities and

there are multiple religions; but the most common religion is

Christian, Muslim, and Jewish. The major industries and businesses

today are the automobile industry, financial sectors, information

technology and tourism. Today people choose to live in Melbourne because there are a

lot of opportunities, safe, good education, healthcare is reliable, childcare is highly

excellent, and living is very affordable. Therefore Melbourne is now one of the best livable

places in the world. If I were to choose a country that is comfortable, less pollution, affordable

living, a lot of job opportunities, and medical care is reliable; I would choose Melbourne with no

    doubt.

Ten years ago, Thailand had value forest

    and natural resources. There were

barely any natural disasters so nobody

was afraid. Rice fields are being cropped

properly with no problems and new

factories are being built. Thailand was a

wealthy country with many new citiesand buildings being built. Bangkok is the

    business heart

At the end of July, 2011, triggered by the

landfall of Tropical Storm Nock-Ten, and

the storm caused a huge flood. The

    flood soon spread through the

    provinces of Northern, Northeastern,

and central of Thailand along the

Mekong and Chao Phraya river basins. In

October, flood water reached themouth of Chao Phraya and inundated

parts of the capital city, Bangkok. There

were three areas that caused the flood.

    Expanding of the cities, deforestation,

and the climate change. First of all, the

expanding of cities had really caused the

    flood. The government had many

projects to build several of new

constructions in major cities and urban

areas. The land that once used to be

empty was now filled with roads and

buildings. The problem is that projects in

several areas were not set up with a

suitable system of drainage. So when the

monsoon came, the water cannot be

drained and it will eventually cause

flooding. There were also many people

that invaded into the forest. They had

cut down many trees that were never

regrown. There were both legal cutters

and illegal ones. Eventually, there were

not enough trees to absorb rainfall. All

of those problems had eventually caused

    a flood.

The flood disaster had been described

as the worst flooding yet in terms of

the amount of the water and people

affected. The World Bank had estimated

for this disaster to be the worlds 4th

costliest disaster as of 2011 surpassed

only by the 2011 earthquake and

    tsunami in Japan, 1995 Kobe

    earthquake, and hurricane Katrina in

2005. The World Bank had also

    estimated 1425 billion Baht (US$45.7

billion) in economic damages and losses

due to flooding as of December 1,

their homes and lost the ones they

love. More than 500 people died.

    Floodwaters have swamped more than

    two-thirds of the country, submerging

rice fields and shutting down hundreds

of factories while over 900,000 families

and businesses have been impacted andhundreds of lives have been tragically

lost. It was the worst flood since the

    last 50 years.

    The Environment

    The environment in Bangkok had

changed a lot because of the airport,

    Suvarnabhumi Airport. Many foreign

investors, and visitors come to Bangkok

and they are filling up the airport of

    Don Mueang. So the government

decided to start building a new

    airport, Suvrnabhumi Airport. The

new airport was designed to protect

from the flood and various natural

disasters. The airport is located in

Racha Thewa in Bang Phli district,

    Samut Prakan Province, about 25

    kilometers (16 mi) east of

downtown Bangkok. The nameSuvarnabhumi was chosen by King

    Bhumibol Adulyadej and refers to

    the golden kingdom hypothesized to

    have been located somewhere in

Southeast Asia. The place that used to

be patty field is now a newly established

    Suvarnabhumi Airport.

    The former Prime Minister, Thaedksin

    Shinawatra, completed the construction

of the airport after the 30 years ofplanning and debate. The airport had

officially opened a week after Thaksins

    government was overthrown. The

airport is one of the worlds largest

    airports. The airport includes 130

    passport control checkpoints for

arrivals, 72 for departure, 26 customs

control checkpoints for arrivals, 8 for

    departures, 22 baggage conveyor belts,

and 360 check-in counters. There are

    100 additional counters for passengers

    without luggage, 107 moving walkways,

    102 elevators, and 83 escalators.

    Suvarnabhumi Airport have an advanced

    airport information and management

system (AIMS) costing 2 billion baht,

    replicating that of Athens International

Airport, which is recognized as one of

the most modern airports in the world.

One of the most modern airports in the

    world, Suvarnabhumi Airport is

    equipped with advanced technology to

    help provide accurate and speedy

information to enhance the safety andcomfort of air travelers. The airport was

    officially opened for limited domestic

flight service on September 15, 2000

    and all international commercial flights

on 28 September 2006. Suvarnabhumi is

the 6th busiest airport in Asia, and the

busiest in the country, having handled

47.9 million passengers in 2011. The

airport has the world's tallest free-

standing control tower (132.2 meters /

    434 feet), and the world's 4th largest

    single-building airport terminal (563,000

square meters / 6,060,000 square feet).

! The study noted that without anew airport, Thailand's economy in

general, and the country's travel and

tourism industry in particular, would be

    much affected. Many feel that

Suvarnabhumi will be at the center of

    Thailand's growth and economic

development. It is expected that during

the first five years of operation

    Suvarnabhumi Airport could occupy

twelfth or thirteenth place as growth in

    the commercial airline industry rises

rapidly in the Asia Pacific region.Because of this airport, it is easier for

the visitors to travel around the city.

When they arrive, they could take the

Airport Like (Sky train) that connects

with the airport to the main citys Sky

    train, BTS.

King Rama 1 founded the city of

Bangkok in 1782. The Thais were

    originally from the Yunnan River,

China. First the capital city of Thailandwas Ayutthaya, and then the Burmese

robbed and destroyed it. So then the

capital moved to Thonburi but that

didnt last for long. After that the capital

    city, Bangkok, was finally established.

Bangkok is located in the central of

Thailand so that it has full protection

from other city surrounding it. For

example, the flood in 2011, the

governments did the very best to protect

Bangkok by trying to move the water

way so that Bangkok doesnt get

    damaged. The Chao Phraya River,

which is the biggest river in Thailand,

passes through Bangkok and that is a

    good water source.

Bangkok is a major center of the cutting

and trading gemstones and also a

production of high quality of gold. They

    also produce silver jewelry. Since

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand,

    there are many buildings, supermarkets,

and public transportation for people to

access easily. So many people come to

Bangkok because of the good resources

    of food, easy access public

    transportation, many good schools and

    shopping malls. Everywhere you walk

in Bangkok, you will find a restaurant

so it is easy to find places to sit and

dine. There are also many foods on the

streets, which are cheap and delicious.

And also there are fresh marketseverywhere and are cheap. Thailand is

    known for its famous cuisines,

    traditions and architecture. Many

foreigners come to try out the cuisines,

and go to temples. There are many good

    schools and universities since primarily

to graduate. There are also hospitalseverywhere, both private and public.

The doctors and nurses and the staff

generally speak good English. There are

a lot public transportations like the

Skytrain, MRT, Taxies, Buses, Tuk Tuk,

    underground train and the Airportlink.

So that if you take the trains, or

skytrains, you dont have to fight

through all the traffics. In Bangkok,

there are also many shopping malls with

amazing designs and new items and

also many famous brands. So people

would love to move to Bangkok.

Because of the good services in

Bangkok, many people want to live

there. Right now, there are about 10

    million people in Bangkok. Bangkok

has a true international culture with a

    sizable population of immigrants from

    China, Japan, India, America, Europe,

    Taiwan, South Korea, Nigeria,

    Malaysia, and Singapore. Bangkok is

    also believed to have approximately

    400-600 illegal immigrants from

    Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma), Russia,

    Ukraine, Pakistan, Nigeria, India,

Bangladesh, China, and so on. 95% of

the Thais are Buddhist. The Thais got

their religion from the past generations

of the Chinese. King Rham Khamhaeng

introduced Thai language in 1283, the

language consists 44 consonants and 48

vowels with 5 different tones makingfor it hard to learn.

Beijing was like a freedom place. Until

Mao Zedong established the first Chinese

    communist government on October 1st,

1949.Peole were able to live peacefully in

their daily life. In fact, the Cultural

    Revolution originated from here.

    Then everything changed. The communist

government tried to create a new society, he

was aiming to restore capitalism. Becauseof that, for ten years between 1966 and

1976, chairmen Maos Red Guards tried

    to destroy traditional customs including

books and clothes. Factory owners had

more power and workers were paid to

produce more. This is called as the

    Cultural Revolution. People who had

    foreign connections were treated viciously

while musicians, dancers, surgeons, anduniversity professors were moved to the

borders of China where they were forced to

    do work.

Then everything changed, in 1977, Liu

Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping, then the State

    Chairman and General Secretary, favored

the idea that Mao should be removed from

actual power. Then, nationwide pay was

    raised. In addition, government allowed

the return of markets, which Mao closed

    during the Cultural Revolution.

Consequently, farmers were able to produce

various different types of food, and made

more money by themselves in their own

land. Also they were willing to harder as

    they benefited from it directly.

As a result, the city of Beijing population

went down and even the ones who

survived, left China shortly after the

revolution was finished. Also most of the

    economic activities stopped. Cultural

Revolution brought up a huge number of

Red Guards who protected Mao and

    destroyed various amount of ancient

buildings, artifacts, books, and paintings, etc. Furthermore, Chinas education

system was brought to nearly close

    down. The university entrance exams

were cancelled after 1966 and werent

    restored until 1977. Cultural

Revolution was one of the awful things

    that happen in Beijings history.

! What do you think the wall in the picture is?Can you believe that this is the Great Wall of

China, one of seven wonders in the world? This isin Mutianyu and called as Mutianyu Great Wall,

which was made on March 2008.At a glance, it

looks like an antique tower that went through a

long battle. The way is blocked with rocks falling

apart and building jumbled with dirt. It seems that

the wall is about to fall down. In fact, this was built

in the 5th century BC.It is so old and damaged

now that no tourists would want to visit.

To our surprise, the Great Wall of China has

recently changed its face from before.Another

picture on the left displays the new Wall whoserenovation was completed on April 2009. More

amazing is that all this change happened in only

one year! The structure of the wall became tourist

friendly and more secured. In addition, the city

government added more blocks to places that were

missing and broken before. They cleared out the

way and cemented a whole chunk of blocks to

make it look better. The city government sought

these changes in the Great Wall of China becausethey want the Wall to represent true Beijing and so

that more tourists willvisit the city. If the Wall

turns into a tourist friendlier, neater and cleaner

place, then more people from other countries

would also come to see it. Then, Beijing would be

more famous and many people would want to live

    there.

Population :The city of Dubai was established in 1894 by

Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher al- Maktoum. It was

located in the Middle East. People wanted to move

to Dubai because of the culture and the nice

homes to live in. Dubai has a lot of major

    industries like, petroleum, aluminum, cement,

fertilizers and petrochemicals that help bring in

the money. Their farmers grow dates, vegetables,

and watermelons along with raising poultry for

eggs and dairy products. They also build ships,

sell handicrafts and textiles. In the past Dubai

was the place where oil was discovered and so

Dubai became really rich because of the oil. They

started developing from a desert to a really big

THE IMPACT OF THE PAST ON THE PRESENT AND

    POPULATION

    The Impact of

    the Past on the

    Present : Dubai used

    to be a small fishing

    town dependent of Abu

    Dhabi until 1833, it then

    became a British

    protectorate in the 19th

    century. Dubai became

    an important port of call

for the British to use for

    their steamers to get to

    India. In 1971 Dubai

    became part of United

    Arab Emirates. In the

    early 1960s oil was

    found, and in 1966 their

    production of oil began.

    In 1971 they announced

    an oil field and a

    supertanker dock was

    constructed. As a result

    of the discoveries from

    1970- 1990 greatly

    increased the UAE's oil

    and gas reserves. By

    1992 there were 4 oil

    producing emirates that

    had produced an

    estimated total of 98

    billion barrels of crude

    oil. They also produced

    5.2 trillion cubic meters

    of natural gas reserves

    resulting in their ability

    to sell their oil and

    natural gas to other

    countries which made

    them rich.

    JERUSALEM HISTORY EFFECTS

Before the Arab Israeli war, Jerusalem usedto be containing mainly Jewish people. The city ofJerusalem had over 300 landmarks and touristattractions including the old city, the temple Mount, and many, many more. Jerusalems population wasaround 746,400 people in 1945. There were wide-open pathways to walk and Israel had open borders. They had all those things all the way up until theArab-Israeli war in 1946.

Then, everything changed in Jerusalem. There were troops from surrounding countriescoming in through their open borders and the nextthing they knew, over ten of the Arab states ofJordan, Yemen, Syria, and Egypt were going againstthe idea of Jewish settlement in the middle east. Most of this was happening because no Jews hadever been to the Middle East and the other countriesbelieved that no one would. Most of the surroundingcountries of Israel were made up of two mainreligions. Christian and Muslims.

The Arab-Israeli war was by far thebloodiest war that Israel has ever fought in. Thoughthis war didnt really harm Jerusalem in any way

really because most of the fighting was justhappening around the borders of Israel. Mostlybecause Israel was able to keep the Arab states out ofthe country. Though there was a chance of Arabtroops invading other parts of Israel though. Buteventually, the Arab states werent able to end upconquering Israel. And just like the rest of theupcoming wars later on in the century, Israel won theArab war.

As a result, Jerusalem is now its ownindependent city containing 3 different religions. Two of which settled in Israel during the war theChristians and the Muslims, in which came from thesurrounding countries of Israel. Jerusalem now has

the name of the divided city because eachdifferent religion has its own quarter. The Jewishquarter contains most of Jerusalems landmarks.Jerusalem is one amazing city. You might not haveknown, but Muslims and Jews do not get along wellbecause of an ancient rivalry. Yet they still have toshare a city. But remember, there was only one thingthat caused this: The Arab Israeli war.

    CHRISTIANQUARTER

! SEPARATED FROM THEJEWISH QUARTER BY THE

WESTERN WALL, THE CHRISTIANQUARTER IS THE LEAST HOLY OUT

    OF THE OTHER QUARTERS

    (JEWISH AND MUSLIM) STILL, THE

    THE MUSLIM QUARTER MEETS UP

    WITH THE JEWISH AND

    CHRISTIAN QUARTERS AT THE

    JERUSALEM. IT IS THE SECOND

    MOST HOLY QUARTER IN

    JERUSALEM.

    THINGS NOT TO MISS!

  • 8/2/2019 Markham Final Relocation GuideFF

    32/76

! The city of Jerusalem wasestablished in the 4th Millennium BCE. It

is located in the Middle East of Asia and

East of the Mediterranean Sea. Jerusalem

is one of the oldest cities in the world.

    Modern Jews descended from Israelites

and Maccabees. Abraham (the father of

the Jews) was sent to Israel by god in the

4th Millennium BCE. He was a famous

man and had many followers who tended

    to follow Abraham to Israel.

! In the past people came toJerusalem because Sir Abraham had over

100 followers, who had all followed and

claimed they were sent to Israel by god as

well. Jerusalem was then ranked the #1

holiest city in the world. Many more

religions moved into Jerusalem to support

their gods, though most of them came

during the Arab Israeli war in 1947. The

city attracts many tourists with their

    temples, churches, and synagogues. The

    most major businesses revolve around

    services, such as schools, tourism,

religion, and government. Business plays a

fairly small rule in Jerusalems economy.

! The population of Jerusalemtoday is around 798,309 people. The

tourists who visit Jerusalem mostly are

from countries out of the Middle East,

such as Ireland, Germany, France, and

other places close to the Middle East. But

people who live in Jerusalem are from

places close to the country, usually other

countries in the Middle East. The city is

split into four main parts: The Christian

    quarter, Muslim quarter, Jewish quarter,

and the Temple Mount. Same as religion,

there are three main languages spoken in

Israel. Those three languages are Hebrew,

English, and Arabic. The population is

growing rapidly. In 2009, the population

was 763,600, and in November 2010, the

    population was 780,200 people.

! Today, people choose to live inJerusalem due to its holiness and not so

much because of businesses. Jerusalem is

now ranked the #5 most holy city in the

world. Many tourists are attracted to the

    landmarks and history of Jerusalem,

considering it goes back so far. Every

religion that lives in Jerusalem goes on a

day, chosen by their god, to praise their

god. Today, Jerusalem is high on the list of

holiest cities in the world, and by hat is

happening now, will probably stay that way

for a long time in the future.

    Must dos in Seoul:

    The Amazing Seoul!

    I will persuade you!

! Visiting Seoul is like a fantasy coming true right in front of you!It used to be united until the war when the place got destroyed. The Koreans

just couldnt agree with each other coming from the 2 different parts, so their

second instinct was just splitting up after the 1st option (which was war) failed

and didnt lead to anywhere. It was like waking up an innocent sleeping baby!

But, with the faithful yet strong citizens, Seoul managed to become itself again

and keep fighting till the end. Seouls vivid variety of 10,627,790 people help

in keeping your company in the hard times and share the good times with you

    too!

The modifications in the City were enchanting! For ex: Seoul City Hall,

built by the Japanese during their brutal annexation of the Korean Peninsula

used to be a very important building where Japanese and Koreans used to do

their official and financial work etc. So previously, if you just strutted in like

you were going for a picnic, they might have just shot you, but now they wontbecause of the eventual transformations! Seoul is like a bowl of sweet and sour

soup and you can never be sure of the adventure that awaits you, so get ready

be indulged by the city that may eventually become your home town!

How the Past affected todays life in

    Seoul

Korea used to be a united, peaceful country. People from north andSouth Korea used to work as a team and worked together. Korea used

to be beautiful and was the site of the worlds fair. It had towers anold building and it was the ultimate city everyone wanted to visit.

It was all going well until USA came to war because Korea was becoming powerful and they thought Japan was next, and since USA traded a lot with Japan they had to stop this. In 1950 the war officially began.

Actually, Korea was split up into north and south after the Korean War, the North having a communist governmentand the South a democratic one. The Koreans just couldnt agree with each other coming from the 2 different parts, so their

second instinct was just splitting up after the 1 stoption (which was war) failed and didnt lead to anywhere. They made Seoulthe capital upon the founding of the Joseon After extensive searches, the founding king, Yi SongGye, decided to build his capitalwhere today's Seoul stands. The decision was based not only on the city's geographical location in central Korea, but also using the prevalent geomantic principles of the time. It was morepeaceful there and the perfect spot!

However, the effects of war were terrifying. There was unemployment and so many people had to quit their jobs to besoldiers and ended up losing their lives. There was poverty and families got split up into North and South Korea. More than100,000 were killed and the country was split up into two devastated pieces of land.

After this sudden war, the countries ignored each other but till date, the North Koreans have been trying to take

control. Recently, one of the main leaders; Kim Jong Il died and that gave the South Koreans a slight spark of hope but northKorea is determined to fight and its not over at least not yet.

    (INTRODUCTION)

Korea in general used to be very eco friendly and clean. People usually took good care of

the earth and it was a very fresh and friendly place to be. But in recent years things havebeen changing. People started cutting down trees for industries and building and they started

projects to help Korea develop more. People also changed the city for money because after the

war, they were becoming poorer and poorer so they needed more inhabitants to come and

start making businesses in Korea. Before, Seoul wasnt the ninth largest consumer of the ozone

(depleting chlorofluorocarbons) layer but now, it is! Korea intends on spending 194.4 billion

won ($193 million) on fixing and rehabilitating the city.

    Seoul used tohave

    minimized

    buildings and

    there werent

too many of them as you can see in this picture. Today,

there are soil erosions and flooding because of

deforestation, pollution, too much land use and less

habitat preservation. In North Korea, before the warstarted, they built a dam at the base of Mount

Kumgang (1638 meters deep). It caused consternation

in South Korea during the mid 1980s. In 1987 the

Kumgang San Dam was a major issue because it took up a lot of space and impacted the environments.

Now days as we can see, technology really affects and changes the environments.

Do you see the difference? The same exact same

place! But since more people are coming in everyday

and new businesses are starting, it has entirely

changed and taken anew form! This picture was taken

in 2003! Since more people have moved into Seoul

overtime, There is more traffic, additional high rise

building, less urban surroundings, climate changes

and a lot more. Actually the climate changes are

affecting the water supply and food security. Weather changes have been noticed and more diseases are

spreading and if we want to make a change and save our planet, we have to make that change NOW!

    PAST AND PRESENT

Kuala Lumpur used to be nothing but a muddy place in

the middle of Klang and Gombak River. Theneverything changed in 1857 when Raja Abdullah and

his brother (Raja Jumaat) sent 87 Chinese laborers up-

river in search for veins of tin. They found some tin in

the meeting point of the Klang and Gombak Rivers and

named it Kuala Lumpur (muddy confluence). Kuala

Lumpur became a tin mining town and was know as

The land of gold. Kuala Lumpur was packed with

more and more Chinese laborers brought in after many

had died from mosquito-borne, malaria. Kuala Lumpurbecame a busy highway with boats packed with miners

moving upriver and boatloads of tin being sent. As a

result, the city of Kuala Lumpur was rebuilt as a new

and popular city and is now the capital of Malaysia.

In the 19th century many Indians came from South

India too, fleeing a poor economy. Indians were mainly

brought in by the British to work in the rubber industry.

Kuala Lumpur is now a multi-cultural city. Its made

up of Muslims, Indians and many Chinese. The

population is now reaching over a million people and

has about 1,580,310 people. The most famous mall in

Kuala Lumpur is The Petronas Towers that was built

with Islamic structures. The building is built with

blocks of the Islamic star. Kuala Lumpur is a great

    vacation and tourist spot now.

resources Kuala Lumpur had and still

has (tin, water, fertile land, etc.) are

the jewels of the city. The sources

    brought many people to Kuala

    Lumpur from different places and

added a variety of colors to the city.

K.L had a population of about

    1,580,310 people. Kuala Lumpur

used to be packed with miners but

    POPULATION AND RESOURCES

The city of Kuala Lumpur was established in

1857 when Raja Abdullah and his brother

(Raja Jumaat) sent 87 Chinese laborers

upriver in search of veins of tin. Kuala

Lumpur was located in the meeting point ofthe Klang and Gombak rivers where some tin

was found. In the past people came to Kuala

Lumpur because of the tin and its richness,

and Kuala Lumpur was known as The

Land of Gold from its tin supplies. Many

people also came for its valuable natural

resources (water, fertile land, trees, forests,

mountains etc.). Today people come to Kuala

Lumpur because of its tourist attractions(Petronas Towers, etc.), malls, modern

    structures, education (schools), restaurants

and because it is well maintained. People

come because Kuala Lumpur is warm and

sunny all around the year and has no very bad

weather conditions to ruin the attraction. Since

every year about 100,000 people are added,

the population is now about 1,580,310

people. The population is made by the major

nationalities in Kuala Lumpur that are

Chinese, Indians and Malay. The major

industries and businesses today include rubber,

palm oil, light manufacturing, electronics, tin

    mining and smelting, logging, timber

    processing, petroleum production and

agriculture. Today people choose to live in

Kuala Lumpur due to its resources,

    opportunities and attractions. Kuala Lumpur

is a wonderful place for everyone. There are

variety of jobs to chose from, many tourist

attractions and proper maintained hygiene and

space. In the 19th century many Indians

came from South India, fleeing a pooreconomy. Indians were mainly brought in by

the British to work in the rubber industry.

Therefore, Kuala Lumpur is now a multi-

cultural city. Its made up of Muslims,

Indians and many Chinese. Its one of the

most developed cities. Kuala Lumpur is kind

of like a hot cup of nasay lemak from all of

    its steamy, attractive surprises!

Kuala Lumpur is located in the southern

    part of the Malay Peninsula.

    The geographical coordinates of Kuala

    Lumpur are 3 10' 0" North, 101 42' 0"

    Kuala Lumpur has really changed!!!!!

Soon, Kuala Lumpur was established as a city. Kuala

Lumpur used to be packed with miners but now its

packed with buildings and more buildings. It doesnt

look the same anymore! There are more buildings, more

attraction and more structures. Humans have used the

resources and made a lovely city! The most famous

towers in Kuala Lumpur are the Petronas Towers thatwere made with Islamic structure to honor the Islamic

religion. The Petronas Towers are built with blocks of

the Islamic Star. Kuala Lumpur has really developed

from the old days. A small mining city to the capital of

    Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur was a large muddy area that wasnt

even noticed at first until 1857 when the Chinese came

in to mine for tin. As the tin got dug and taken, many

people settled in this land. Many traders like Indian

Muslims came and soon established an official religion,

Islam. More and more traders came in making Kuala

Lumpur a trade mart/center and bringing more

cultures in (Hindu or Tamil, Muslim, more Chinese).

    MOSCOW RUSSIA ! MARCH 1, 2012

Past to presentMoscow!!!!!!!!!!!!!Moscow is located at theNortheastern part of Russia. Moscow,

in the days of the Czars, was the Trad-

ing post of the Northeast on the banks

of The Volga River and was also the

capital city of Russia. After WWII,

USA and Soviet Union emerged as the

    two superpowers. Many countries were

    supporting either of the superpowers.

Moscow virtually became the center of

half the world. Its beautiful towers

stood for years without complaint. The

city itself attracts people by the thousands. It boasts one of the best and

longest subway systems in the world. It also has the palaces from the time of the Czars such as Kremlin, and

beautiful churches. The communist government built beautiful and broad boulevards and infrastructure. Moscow

was the center of the superpower fighting for supremacy in space, military and global influence. Moscow was a

very busy but calm and quiet place filled with people.

Then everything changed, towards the end of the Cold War (1986 onwards). The Soviet government started

spending too much money on weapons, and the Space Race. Since the soviet government owned everything, the

country was closed. Their trade with other countries was mostly in the Barter Way rather than cash.

The people started to get unhappy that their government was not providing them with enough food and health -

care. On the governments side, they were using the money still for the country to outpace the Americans. Since

the Soviet government started using too much money on weapons and the Space Race, all services and standing

military were starved of cash and support. The military police that were controlling the people of countries under

soviet rule started to become weak. The government was not spending enough on the military and the salarieswere not being paid so the morale became low. Within Soviet Russia, people were unhappy and distressed, as they

were not taken care of. The Russians were protesting in the streets of Moscow.

Soviet Union was made of many countries not only Russia. These were Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia,

Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

When the revolution in Moscow began, the people of these countries stared to declare independence, as the con-

trol from Moscow became weaker. Meanwhile, the effects of this action by the people, was so powerful and fast

that the Soviet Union did not even have time to recover. Finally, on December 25 1991, for the last time the Soviet

flag flew over the Kremlin and Soviet Russian president stepped down. A new president was elected, and the new

Russian flag flew over the Kremlin. Soviet Russia had collapsed and the countries that were under Soviet rule

were free and formed into separate countries. As a result, the city of Moscow and Russia had a big struggle recov-

ering from the complete collapse for the next ten years.

    MOSCOW RUSSIA ! MARCH 1, 2012

    People of Moscow

Moscow is situated on the banks of Moskova River. It lies in the western part of Russia, in the Euro-pean part of the country. The first reference to Moscow dates from 1147 when Yuri Dolgorukiy called upon

the prince of the Novgorod-Severski to come home, brother, to Moscow. Nine years later, in 1156, PrinceYuri Dolgorukiy of Rostov ordered the construction of a wooden wall, which had to be built multiple times,to surround the emerging city.

Its favorable position on the head waters of the Volga River contributed to the steady expansion. Moscow de-veloped into a stable and prosperous city for many years and attracted a large number of refugees from acrossRussia. By early 15th century, the population surpassed 50000 people. Contemporary visitors said Moscowwas awesome, brilliant and filthy. The city was resilient against fire, famine and fighting. In early 17th century, its population topped 200000 making it the largest city in the world. In the early 1930s Josef Stalin launched an industrial revolution, instigating a wave of peasant immigration to

Moscow. Moscow became a centre of military industry. During the Cold War, the aerospace, radio-electronics

and nuclear weapons ministries operated factories and research laboratories in and out of the capital (Mos-cow). By 1
