COLORADO ROCKIES (27-32) RHP Kyle Kendrick (2-7, 6.16) vs. MIAMI MARLINS (25-36) RHP Jose Ureña (0-2, 5.49) MARLINS PARK, MIAMI, FL Friday, June 12, 2015 – 7:10 P.M. FISH BITES The Marlins continue a six-game homestand tonight with game two of four against the Colorado Rockies. RHP Jose Ureña (0-2, 5.49) gets the start for Miami, looking for his first Major League victory. This will be his second career start against the Rockies; he faced them in his last outing, on June 7 in Denver, and held them to one run over 6.0 innings. Colorado counters with RHP Kyle Kendrick, who also started the June 7 match-up and sports a 14-3, 3.41 record in 27 appearances (22 starts) against Miami in his career. The Marlins are coming off a 2-4 road trip to Colorado (2-1) and Toronto (0-3), and will also face the Yankees (June 15-16) on this homestand. The Club will then hit the road to complete a four-game home-and-home set with the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium (June 17-18) before head- ing to Cincinnati (June 19-21). Tonight’s National Anthem will be performed by the Cooper City High School band, and the ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by Richard Doherty. Tonight is also the Corona Light Summer Beach Bash, featuring an exclusive summer celebration on the West Plaza for fans who purchased VIP special event tickets. VIP ticket holders will also receive Marlins beach sandals, while Corona Light will have giveaways for fans. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Billy The Marlin’s Little Fish Water Safety Awareness Program. VS. THE ROCKIES Miami will take on the Rockies tonight at 7:10 p.m. in game two of this four-game set. The Clubs just finished a three- game series in Denver over the weekend, with the Fish taking two of three. The Marlins lead the all-time series against the Rox, 94-88, which includes a 56-33 mark in Miami (7-4 at Marlins Park). LAST NIGHT David Phelps rebounded from one of his worst pro starts to turn in his best, shutting out the Rockies over a career- high 8.0 innings in a 6-0 victory for the Fish. Phelps allowed just four hits and a walk, while striking out six, to earn his third win of the year. Miami’s bats struck early to give Phelps a 5-0 lead after two innings. Giancarlo Stanton got the scoring started with a three-run homer, his 22 nd of the year, in the first inning. The Marlins pushed across a pair of runs in the second with two outs, the first on a Christian Yelich triple and the second on an infield single by Stanton. Jeff Baker capped the scoring with a solo home run, his third, in the fifth. Adeiny Hechavarria batted leadoff and went 3x5, leading the top four batters in the lineup to a 8x19 night, with three extra-base hits and five RBI. TRANSACTIONS Following last night’s game, the Marlins optioned LHP Adam Conley to Triple-A New Orleans. Today, the Club recalled INF Derek Dietrich (#32) from Triple-A New Orleans. Dietrich was batting .260 (50x192) in 56 games for the Zephyrs this season, with 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 27 RBI. RARE RECOVERY David Phelps has made two consecutive starts against the Rockies: last night’s 6-0 win and a 10-5 loss on June 7 at Coors Field. In Denver, he allowed a career-high tying nine runs, while last night he shut out the Rox over a career-high eight innings. According to Stats LLC, he is just the fifth pitcher since 1914 to make back-to-back starts against the same opponent and allow nine-plus runs in the first outing before tossing eight-plus scoreless innings in the second. The short list contains two former Marlins, though they accomplished the feat with other Clubs. Those pitchers were: Carl Pavano for the Yankees against Seattle (9 R in 4.0 IP on 5/11/95; SH on 5/17/05); Kevin Brown for Texas against Boston (9 R in 1.2 IP on 7/1/90; SH on 7/6/90); Bill Wegman for Milwaukee against Detroit (9 R in 5.1 IP on 8/28/88; SH on 9/2/88); and Hippo Vaughn for the Cubs against Pittsburgh (9 R in 8.0 IP on 6/26/20; SH on 6/30/20). ELIAS SAYS... In his last 12 games, Giancarlo Stanton has hit nine home runs. According to Elias, he is the first Marlin ever to hit nine homers over a 12-game span. He is the third player in the Majors to do it this year, joining Bryce Harper, who had 10 home runs during his run, and Nelson Cruz, who also had nine. RBI MACHINE STEPS IT UP VS. ROX Giancarlo Stanton, who leads the Majors with 55 RBI, has knocked in a run once per 3.22 at-bats (132 ab/41 rbi) in his career against the Rockies. That is the second-best mark all-time vs. Colorado, behind only Matt Stairs (3.03), and just ahead of David Justice (3.34), according to Stats LLC. TWICE IS HARD The Marlins have not allowed more than one home run in a game at Marlins Park in 46 consecutive outings, dating back to August 15 of last season. According to Stats LLC, that is tied for the second-longest streak in the Majors since 1990 with the 1992-93 Montreal Expos. Miami has allowed just 12 home runs at home this year, the lowest amount in the Majors, ahead of Washington (14) and Kansas City (17). The Club low for a single season was 44 by the 1996 squad, which allowed 17 homers through its first 29 home games. RECORD PACE Giancarlo Stanton has hit his Major League-leading 22 home runs in just 60 games played this season, the fastest he has reached that mark in his career, according to ESPN Stats & Info. The quickest he had done so prior to this year was 89 games in 2012, followed by 95 in 2014, 96 in 2011, 97 in 2010, and 100 in 2013. STAYIN’ ALIVE Marcell Ozuna extended his season-long hitting streak last night, pushing the run to 12 games. It is the second-longest active streak in the Majors, behind Joe Panik (15), and is one away from tying Dee Gordon (13 from April 24-May 10) for the longest on the team this season. Ozuna, whose career-long streak was 16 games in 2013, is batting .370 (17x46) during the streak, with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI, raising his season average from .267 to .288. IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO Dee Gordon is currently batting .460 (29x63) with two outs this season, tops in the Majors. The best batting average with two outs recorded since 1974 was a .458 mark by Jeff Treadway in 1993, followed by a .439 for Jim Eisenreich with Philadelphia in 1996, a .429 for Wade Boggs with the Yankees in 1994, and a .419 for Larry Walker with Colorado in 1999. Current Rockie DJ LeMahieu is hitting .429 (27x63) with two outs this season. - Stats LLC SIX TO ONE, HALF DOZEN TO ANOTHER With his first of two home runs on Tuesday night in Toronto, Giancarlo Stanton became the seventh player in Major League history to have six seasons of 20+ home runs through the age of 25. The last player to have such a streak was Alex Rodriguez from 1996 to 2001. The others were Tony Conigliaro (1964-70), Orlando Cepeda (1958-63), Frank Robinson (1956-61), Eddie Matthews (1952-57), Mickey Mantle (1952-57) and Mel Ott (1929-34). MARLINS VS. Jose Ureña (oo-rey-nya) is making his fourth career start and sixth career appearance tonight, his second start against the Rockies. This is his second stint with the Marlins this season, as he was called up from Triple-A New Orleans on April 13 and made two relief appearances before being sent back down on April 21, and returned to the big club on May 26 to make his first career start at Pittsburgh. In six starts with NOLA this season, posted a 4-0 record and 1.21 ERA (37.1 ip/5 er). Allowed one-or-no runs in five of six starts this season, surrendering a season-high four runs (two earned) on May 13 vs. Oklahoma City.

He faced the Rockies in his last outing on June 7 at Coors Field, posting his second straight quality start, limiting Colorado to one run on three hits and two walks, with four strikeouts. He exited the game in line for his first career win, but the Rockies tied the game in the seventh before Miami seized a 3-2 victory in 10 innings.

At time of his last call-up, led Pacific Coast League in ERA, registering the only sub-2.00 ERA in the league.

Made first career Major League appearance on April 14 at Atlanta after being recalled on April 13. Tossed 1.0 scoreless inning in debut. Made second appearance on April 18 at Citi Field against Mets, allowing three runs on three hits (one home run) over 2.0 innings. Optioned back to NOLA on April 21.

In each of last three Minor League starts, has logged at least 7.0 innings while allowing two or fewer earned runs (1.27 ERA). Tossed season-high 7.1 scoreless innings on May 8 at Memphis.

Over career, has amassed 480 strikeouts over 128 appearances (669.1 IP). Has career 3.29 strikeout/walk ratio. Has recorded over 100 strikeouts in each of his last three seasons.
