The Affordable Housing TrustFund was addressed at the Eve-sham Township council meetingon Wednesday, July 25, pending aletter received from the state.

The township received the let-ter, as expected, to collect the$270,000 from the AffordableHousing Trust Fund surplus, ac-cording to Mayor Randy Brown.

The Affordable Housing TrustFund was presented in April. Thetownship was given four optionsto utilize the money: extend af-

fordability controls and offer toextend owner occupied affordablehousing units for 30 years, pro-vide special needs housing, offer

down payment assistance to sup-port homeownership and lastly, market to affordable or usemonies to buy down the cost ofa unit.

Following the steps taken forthe fun, $270,000 remained for thetownship to decide on how it wasgoing to spend the money.

The decision was approvedtwo weeks ago, knew the deadlineof when the state was going tocome in and swoop and take themoney from us, Brown said.Theres a plan with the moneythats COAH compliant due toplan put in place to spend it on

the town, said Brown. The entire COAH process is

confusing, says Brown, to bothelected officials and residents.

On one hand they say there isno COAH, on the other hand theysay theyre going to take themoney, Brown said. And, ifCOAH comes back, you have useit on low-income projects, whichis the confusing part as even anelected official

The township follows the leadof Leah Furey Bruder, townshipPlanning and Zoning Board plan-ner, teamed with Ron Morgan,COAH attorney.

Together, they applied the fi-nancial plan two weeks ago, andwe trust their judgment andagreed with it. Overall, Im still

disappointed in the state that weneed to go to these measures, but

Evesham is expecting a few hundredpeople to kick of the inaugural event in the

community, Fitzgerald said. Its a wonderful opportunity for com-

    munities nationwide to promote police-

community partnerships, crime preven-tion, and neighborhood camaraderie.Matt Pekin, executive director of NNO saidin an official statement. While the onenight is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs and violence, National Night Outdoes represent the kind of spirit, energyand determination that is helping to makemany neighborhoods safer places through-out the year. It [NNO] is a night to celebratesafety and crime prevention successes and to expand and strengthen programs forthe next 364 days.

Guests are invited to come celebrate

NNO and enjoy a free evening with theircommunity.

The police station will be open for toursalong with SWAT, the K-9 rescue, theD.A.R.E. truck and fire trucks along with

the smoke house throughout the night anddemonstrations from the unique teams willalso be involved with NNO.

We decided to get the community to-gether and have a great night, saidFitzgerald.

National Night Out will take place Aug. 7from 7 until 10 p.m. at the Evesham Town-ship Municipal Building located at 984Tuckerton Road.

Come out and meet your neighbors and

enjoy a night with the family, Fitzgeraldsaid.

Its hard to believe, but a new school

year is almost upon us. In a few

    short weeks, schools open.

But what will be different about this

    school year?

Were going to find out. Right now,

our reporters are compiling lists of

questions for school leaders about thenew school year.

Are there new classes students and

    parents need to know about?

    How about scheduling changes?

Was any work done at the schools

    over the summer?

If your school district switched its

annual election to November, well ask

if there will be any noticeable impact

    on the schools.

    Generally, well be asking school

leaders to tell us about things that

you parents, taxpayers and students need to know before the 2012-13 school

    year begins.

Then, we will pass that information

    along to you.

Do you have any questions youd like

our reporters to ask? If so, the time to

    act is now.

Maybe you are concerned about the

budget (who isnt?). Or maybe youveheard about a new program that you

think might be ideal for your child. Or

perhaps you are wondering about re-

pairs that were scheduled for your

    childs school.

Wed love to get those questions from

you. Just send an email to us so that we

can include them on our lists.

Most school districts have done a lot

in recent years to be more responsive

to questions submitted by the public. Itmakes sense. Everyone wants to have

great schools. Everyone wants to keep

taxes as low as possible, while still pro-

viding great service. One of the best

ways to achieve these goals is to build a

    true public-private partnership be-

    tween schools and the communities

they serve. And building that relation-

    ship starts with effective communica-

    tion.

So send us your questions. Well do

    our best to get answers.

    in our opinion

Ready for school? Its August, so school doors open in only a few weeks

    Any questions?

We are tracking down school leaders toask them questions about the upcom-ing school year. So whats on yourmind? Send us your questions, andwell do our best to get answers.
