And when the sun became hot, it melted.” Exodus 16:21 Remember when you were a kid and summer was a time for being outside? Do you also remember when the sun overhead became hot and you melted? Of course, not like the manna in the wilderness, but hot enough for a garden hose sprinkler, a good ol’ shade tree or maybe even a trip to the creek? Like it or not, God designed the sun to be global warming, melt manna and give us the hot summer seasons. It is interesting that the hot days of July have become fodder for some to declare that the earth will become nothing but a great big hot oven if the world governments don’t do something about it soon! In 2018, Forbes published an article that stated, “The National Academy of Sciences says it could get much, much hotter if we don't do something about it. The Academy has announced that a „Stabilized Earth will require deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, protection and enhancement of biosphere carbon sinks, efforts to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, possibly solar radiation management, and adaptation to unavoidable impacts of the warming already occurring.‟" You don’t have to be a member of the National Academy or a weatherman to know that in July, if you think it is hot now, just wait until August! While it is interesting that folks blame hot days of summer on manmade global warming, it is the final day of climate change that needs to be of great concern. One day this earth will cease to exist as a home for the living. The apostle Peter could not have made it clearer: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” ( II Peter 3:10). Then in verse 12, “because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat.” If you think you're melting in the heat of July, just think about the fervent heat required to cause this earth and all things in it to literally melt! Interestingly, the word translated “melt” means to unbind, dissolve, and destroy. One day the elements that make up the creation of God will be released to destruction. This is why Peter says, “the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” Without question, if you think it is hot now, just wait until the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night!! Because the elements will melt, Peter states the obvious: “Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness?” (II Peter 2:11). In other words, if we believe God’s word, we will want to make sure that we are prepared for the day that things will get hotter! We will want to be among those who look to the promise given in verse 14, “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” From Revelation 21, we know this will be the day in which eternal heaven will be the reward for God’s people! A day that will bring a wonderful climate change for God’s children. As John states, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4). When Christ comes, eternity for the unprepared and lost will be a tragic climate change! As Paul wrote , “Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power” (II Thessalonians 1:7-9). If you think it is hot now, just wait until Christ’s return. However, do you really want to suffer in that eternal heat? Kenny Bebee, Helen Marchand’s son-in-law, is at home and
is improving from a stroke. *William Dill continues to suffer from frequent severe
migraines. *Janet Fisher will be having some tests run. Shanda Hahn, a relative of Becky Hyder, has stage 4 cancer. Sid Heistand, Elvis’s father, will be undergoing further
treatment and possibly more surgery. *Zoey Heistand saw her neurologist. Her EEG was normal
and he want to start weaning her off her medication. Kelly Herman has tick fever, but is home now. Karen Helms, a friend of the Chafins, has cancer. Marsha Kammerer’s cancer has returned. *Jerry Letterman’s eye surgery went well. He plans to have
the other eye done July 30. *Bobby Lewis continues to fight a battle with seizures and
other related health problems. *Missy Lewis is having ear problems and is asking for your
prayers. Lisa Plunkett Martin recently had surgery on her wrist. Keith McHenry has passed all of his tests and is now on the
list for a kidney donor. Tye McMasters is continuing to improve. Joe Pardun, Debra Chafin’s son-in-law had surgery
Thursday to remove a tumor from his spine. He has additional tumors to be dealt with at another time.
Eli Peak, a friend of Alex Heistand, has lung cancer. *Roy and Judy Phillips are battling several health issues. Tom Porter, Jeana Tracy’s brother-in-law, is in Mercy and
his health is continuing to fail. James Taylor, a friend of the Hyders, is battling cancer. Liz Barrows Taylor, friend of Leon Moon and daughter
Patty, is confined to a walker with rheumatoid arthritis. Ila Thomas has been diagnosed with ALS. Ila is the sister-in
-law of Janet Batson Penn who has visited with us. Charles Todd, Ivan’s brother, has been suffering with heart
problems. Cheyenne Villines has started her chemo treatments.
