Taxi Driver Consists of Jazz Music We first see an Extreme Close Up of a

character eyes and we are then led to see blurred vision, which shows the audience that the person who’s eyes we are looking is suffering from a late night or have taken something such as drugs which may lead to the blurred vision.

Scorsese also uses Slow Motion in almost every film, this is a signature edit his work. He also has more features in his film which makes him an Auteur ( a person who has such an influence in making films, they create their own unique style and becoming an author.

Raging Bull Raging Bull consists of the use of Slow motion, same effect is

used in Taxi Driver. They both also have the use of Smoke and mist. This is

significant because if people were to watch Scorcese’s films they would recognise his work.

However, Raging Bull does not have Jazz Music playing…in Raging Bull we hear Harmonic Music and see that the Boxer in the ring is focused and in his zone, focused on the match ahead.

Similarities within his work Both films are set in New York Both films have Star Actors such as Robert Di Nero Both Characters are set in their own world. E.g. The taxi

driver is the character we focus on when we watch the intro, we know he applies for a job role as a taxi driver, we also know he can’t sleep, we don’t know why, but it makes us the audience think about the character more.

In Raging Bull, we know that the character in the ring is focused and practicing his moves for his fight, he doesn’t engage with the audience, he just pounces around the ring keeping his mind set for a fight.

Both characters are Italian American Location is established through the introduction to

characters

Lastly…Means Streets This film starts off with a diagetic sound, in this case it’s a voice over, we

then hear sirens and a busy road which signifies an idea of the location. This film also has dark lighting and we are shown the character looking

depressed and upset. As we look further in we’re shown the character who we saw at first “depressed and upset” Happy and enjoying life we’re introduced to the happy side through a non-diegetic sound of music which is fast paced and uplifting, we’re then shown a film which introduces us to Happy side of this character. This shows that Scorcese has used the Enigma code because the audience do not know why this man is depressed, what caused this upon him?
