THE LESSER KNOWN CANCERS Pancreatic Cancer
A disease in which malignant (cancer) cells are found in the tissues of the pancreas. Also called exocrine cancer.
New cases: 43,140 Deaths: 36,800
Male Breast Cancer Cancer that forms in tissues of the breast. New cases: 1,970 Deaths: 390
Neuroblastoma Cancer that arises in immature nerve cells and affects mostly infants and
children New cases: 650
Carcinoma of Unknown Primary A case in which cancer cells are found in the body, but the place where the cells
first started growing (the origin or primary site) cannot be determined. Melanoma
A form of cancer that begins in melanocytes (cells that make the pigment melanin). It may begin in a mole (skin melanoma), but can also begin in other pigmented tissues, such as in the eye or in the intestines.
