Narrative

Through this process I have learned that the design factor of any project is not made up of only what you, yourself like. The design process is made up of the thoughts and ideas of you as well as the community around you. When coming up with ideas for this project I discovered that not everyone interpreted my designs in the same way. I also came across the idea that what I was coming up with is something someone else first discovered it may not be the exact same concept of interpretation but someone has already had the idea. All forms may be different, but have the same meaning or concept behind them. In architecture the body and the mind become one the mind designs the body through its architectural design. Buildings and designs are developed through the design of the body. You have the roof(the head), the iron and steel(the skeleton), and the basement(the feet). Your skeleton holds the organs and all the rest together, just as the steel and iron hold the offices the classrooms and all sections of the building together.

Step one:Review areas that inspire you.

The three areas I reviewed were Oyster Point, which is a very peaceful place for me, which inspired me because people need a nice easy mellow place to be. The second place I reviewed was Candlestick Point, it has great views of the Bay area and it is a gathering place where many people have parties and join together to have fun. I believe that this is a quality that people need to have fun in life. The third place I reviewed was Candlestick Park, this is an icon in the city of San Francisco it seems like a place for the God's to meet, and the God's are where most people are aiming to go.

Step Two:Iterations, Drawings, Ideas.

Iteration one:In this iteration I was thinking

of a progressive, regressive stairway, to illustrate the ups and downs in life. This was not exactly the an idea that would be site specific and as a group we had decided on community as our human condition, so it didn't correlate well to that.

Iteration two:In this iteration I was trying to

connect the batmale courtyard wall to the structure we were making, because the courtyard is a community area and so I felt this would be a good connection to community, but it was too literal.

Step Two:Iteration Three:

In this iteration I was trying to connect a sitting area as community with the stairway raising to the top of the wall to show progression in the community, but this did not make much sense.

Iteration Four:In this iteration I made

a sitting area, covered so not to be rained on, and to make it more intimate almost like a tree covered bench, to create a small community meeting area.

Step Two:Iteration Five:

In this iteration I was trying to create a pathway as well as a node for a brief encounter with others. This was suppose to create a nice community meeting place to enclose you from the cold courtyard walls.

Iteration Six:In this iteration I was trying

to integrate my two other group members ideas. One was the triangular area and then the lattice work, as well as keep my nodes and my pathway. We did not decide on this.

Step Two:Final Decision.

This is what our final Iteration ended up being. We combined Andrew and Maria's ideas together to create a warm meeting place for people to come and sit and be separated from the outside world around them.

Step Three:Constructing the final decision.

Day One:On the first day of our

construction process, we took all of the weeds, trash and ciggarete buds out of the planter box.

Day Two:The next day we built

one of our main support areas, we tapped the wood beams into the mud and then put together the supports in the middle of the what will be bench postes and supports.

Step Three:

Day Three:Unfortunately I was unable to

come to this meeting, and building day because of work. My group members Maria and Andrew did really well this day and got the rest of the supports put up.

Day Four:I also missed this day but Maria

and Andrew got the rest of the main structure put up and put together. They got all of the rest of the lattice work together as well as the beams for the mesh material.

Step Three:Day Five:

On this day we started to work on the outside lattice work filling. The filling was made out of recycled martial. We cut each piece so that we could come up with the correct colors to paint them.

Day SIx:Andrew and Maria put

up the mesh material, which I also had to miss, because of work. Put the got it up and it outlasted the rain that we sadly were encountering.

Step Three:Day Seven:

This was one of our last days. On this day we popped in all of the colored panels and put the stops in with them so they would look nice and wouldn't have globs of glue in some spaces.

Day Eight:The last step of the

project was to stain the benches and this was the one part of the project I did by myself, and it was hard the stain wasn't working right and one of the benches had mud on it and the mud made the color not stick right.

My Learning Experience:

Through this project I have realized that working with others is really hard and that you can't argue over the problems you run into. If you argue over the problems you're having it makes them worse, so we really all tried not to argue but to just talk through the problems we came across. I also learned that next time I do a project like this that me and my group need to set a price range because the price we had was way higher then I could afford, but many decisions were made without me because I had to work and I could not be at every meeting so I just had to agree so that way our project could get underway. We were the last team to start building i believe that had a lot to do with out lack of time together as a team. I was hard to find time but once we made the decision on what our team was building we were the first to finish the building process.

Overall this was a great experience for me because i realized that I need to stop procrastinating and I need to step up next time in my next project so that I can put a little more of my own input into the project.
