Dear Sisters and Brothers, Happy 4th of July weekend. I do hope you will get a chance to spend some me with family and friends. This year, 2020, has been a quite a challenging year to date, with the Coronavirus shu ng everything down, the tragic death of George Floyd and the racial tension that followed and the tearing down of monuments, both poli cal and religious, has le this na on feeling broken and very fragile. Many people are feeling afraid, afraid for themselves and afraid for their children and their families. The 4th of July should not just be about independence but the birth of freedom, the birth of new ideals, the birth of all peoples coming together to live as one people and striving to make a na on where all people are treated equally and with respect. The declara on of 1776 for independence from Britain and the struggle that followed didn’t end in 1783, it con nues to this day and will always con nue because a na on that is as mul cultural as America there will always be a cry for equality, for recogni on and acceptance. My prayer this 4th of July is that God will provide for us the leadership that will, in the words of St Paul, ‘Use words that build up, not words that tear down,’ and help us all to live as united people of America. A li le prayer from ‘The Book Of A Thousand Prayers.’

God of hope, you have given the rainbow as a symbol of your faithfulness; in its colors, you have shown us the variety of human life and your call to unity; its span between heaven and earth reminds us that our hopes for the future are founded on your grace; you have tuned your face from judgement to redemp on and have called us to be peacemakers.

We pray for people whose humanity is denied by others; for those persecuted or imprisoned because of their religion or their poli cs; for those who try to oppress and manipulate others and in so doing lose sight of their own humanity; for those who work for peace and jus ce, whatever the cost.

Lord God, make us your rainbow people, glorying in our God-given variety, passionate for peace, trus ng in your grace, in the name of Jesus Christ, the hope of the world.

(Pa erns and Prayers for Chris an Worship)

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION! Please consider volunteering. We have a wonderful program for Catechists, Aides and Hall Monitors. The success of our program is dependent on the willingness of individuals to help out. All volunteers need to be fingerprinted and attend a “VIRTUS” Safe Child workshop before being allowed to volunteer. (Fingerprinting and VIRTUS information can be found on our RE website.) Volunteering is a rewarding experience to share your faith with our parish youth. High School and College age volunteers will excel this year since we will be going digital – this is right up their alley. 2020-2021 REGISTRATION As we look forward to the Fall we must be conscious of what is happening in the world around us. Based on concerns for the health and safety of our families and the physical distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Diocese of Trenton, I continue to monitor and watch for guidance. While these adjustments continue to change, I cannot at this time comment on registration or in-class learning. Please remember that all changes will be made to protect our students and volunteers against the spread of COVID-19. What I can promise is a superior Catholic education during these unprecedented times. I hope to hold Re-Registration in July, continue to monitor your email and the above noted communications. Always remember we are one CATHOLIC family. We will get through this, as with all the challenges before us, together. Live our Creed.

The Fall will bring many favorable changes to the curriculum. 1st-6th grade will now be using Christ in Us by Sadlier. This new program comes with detailed class plans and a digital portal for Catechist, parent and child. Faithful, compre-hensive, structured, and effective catechesis is delivered through a variety of instructional models, supported by digital portals for all users, providing the ability to adapt to the real-time needs of their learners and their learning environ-ments. 7th grade will now be adding in a minimal amount of Decision Point, currently used solely by our 8th grade classes. Class time will also be reduced to aide in the amount of time children are dropped off for class and picked up after Mass. All the specifics will be included in the Registration Packet, estimated for mid-July. Class to Mass will continue but all the grades will be required to attend Mass after class putting the focus on Mass.

FREE SUMMER VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Since we will not be hosting VBS this year, I want to offer parents a weekly program they can do from the safety of their own home with their whole family. Holy Heroes is offering a FREE program with outline, videos, lesson discussions, songs, snacks, crafts, activities and games. To register, go to www.holyheroes.com scroll to the bottom of the page and click the link for Summer Faith Adventure.

You’ll be able to choose from one of the summer camp weeks: June 15-19, June 22-26, or July 20-24. I’ve signed myself up, I hope you will too.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed the man who seeks refuge in him. [Psalm 34(33):9]

SAINT MARIA GORETTI (1890-1902) July 6

Does anything match a mother’s pride in her children? First Communions, confirma ons, gradua ons, weddings: how these delight a mother’s heart! Imagine, then, Assunta Gore , the only mother ever to a end her child’s canoniza on! In poverty-stricken rural Italy, widowed Assunta tended fields for the Serenelli family, whose eighteen-year-old son, Alessandro, proposi oned her barely twelve-year-old Maria; then, when she resisted, crying, “It is a sin! God forbids it!” he stabbed her fourteen mes. As she lay dying, Maria assured the a ending priest, “Yes, I forgive Alessandro! I want him to be in Paradise with me someday.” Imprisoned, unrepentant, Alessandro changed a er dreaming that a radiant Maria had offered him fourteen lilies. “I’ve kept my promise,” she smiled. “You’ll be here with me someday.” Upon release, he rushed to beg Assunta’s forgiveness. “Jesus has forgiven you,” she replied, “my Maria, too. How can I refuse?” Next morning, mother and murderer walked Arm in arm to church and knelt side by side for Communion. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Beatitudes for a Time of Covid19 by Mark Davies

Blessed are the mask wearers, for they help keep persons of sacred worth from dying alone and scared, separated from family and friends. Blessed are those who care for the sick and comfort the dying, for they are the presence of Beloved Community. Blessed are those who mourn the dead rather than minimize their death, for they will retain their humanity. Blessed are the scientists searching for treatments and vaccines, for they are bearers of hope. Blessed are the food providers for those who can and cannot pay, for they are sustainers of life. Blessed are those who keep their distance, for they allow our beloved ones to remain close. Blessed are those who refuse to profit unjustly from the pandemic, for they bear witness to justice and common decency. Blessed are employers who keep workers safe, for they value life over profit. Blessed are leaders who make compassionate decisions based upon knowledge and evidence, for they forge a wise path. Blessed are the truth tellers, for they provide the best information possible to keep all of us safe. Blessed are those who do not use the pandemic to divide us, for they work for the common good of all.
