“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” - George Eliot

Bio

Maryam Sultan is an Emirati born in 1992. She likes learning new things and finds it as an interesting part of life. She graduated in the year 2009 with high distingtion. After graduating she went straight to Zayed University to continue her education. Maryam always knew that she wanted to study art; every aspect that was related to art interested her. When maryam decided to enter Interior design she did so because she wanted to affect the people around her directly. By designing a persons home, retail space, or a facility you have unconsciously changed the feeling of that person when they eter that place. Being able to change a persons mind and teach them about art at the same time interests Maryam very much.

Painting and Drawings

During my First year in University I learned to draw in many different ways. pointalism was one of the ways that was very interesting in my opinion. When I started this project we were first asked to draw a form that remindes us of repitition. the second step was to make a model as you can see on the farthest left image. I was then asked to paint an image of the model and use color to show depth . finally I had to take another angel and re-draw the model in pointalism style.

The painting on my right represents one of the paintings I made. the wondeful thing about chinese painting is that any mistake made in the process of painting will be incorperated in the final peice as well.

During my foundation year in the arts program I spent a short time practacing chines painting. I never knew how interesting chinese painting could be until I took this class. I learned about some of the tools of chinese painting and how it evolved with the years and many other interesting facts.

“Seated boy with straw hat” was a projest that taught me how to use multiple mediums in orer to have them balance out and not overpower each other on the paper.

This project taught me about space and how it can change by moving simple things. It also taught me about how to place a function in a given space and changing some minor detailing to make that happen.

Painting

Painting was one of the funnest class i have taken. Ireally enjoied mixing colors and layering them and slowly sculpting an image from an empty page.

Graphic Design

Learning how to use illustrator was very amusing. In this project I created three dimensional objecs with the use of layering colors. I learned about the immportance of composition and how the human eye starts analizing what it falls apon.

Interior Design

Tips and ToesMedium: Pen & Markers

Designing a nail station for a university campus was very exciting. The mood that inspired me in this project was the arora. by under-standing the shape and movement of the auroura I was able to create a relax-ing environment that students would like to come and relax in.

while working on this project I learned many things about designing tight spaces. the most importantt part of this project was being able to store all the nessesities the people working in this con-tainer need, in addition to creating an easy flow space.while facing many challenges in this project the final outcome was educational and amusing.

Artist Statement

My aim is to be an artist that is a part of the change that is happening in our future. I would like to use the language of art to communicate with the present world and bring awareness. By learning from our mistakes, achievements, past experiences we as people and artist can make a better future.

We learn new things everyday from the simple things around us. Nevertheless, not everyone is able to see the unique differences in life. Some people are used to seeing something one way they tend to ignore the simple differences that makes every object unique. We as artist have the power to show people things they have never thought of before, or show them something in a different light. By doing this we will have the power to persuade people and change their opinions. In my design process I usually turn to nature as my inspiration. By abstracting what we usually see I come up with amazing shapes and outlines that fill my designs with creativity.

As an individual artist, I like observing new things and the natural things around me. Some people might think that observing the everyday things is weird because there is nothing special about it, never the less I think there is something special and unique in every object around us, we just have to open our eyes, as well as our minds. Starting new projects always excites me, because like how everything in nature is unique so is every project. After finishing a project I feel like I have learnt many things that a lecture class can not teach.

“Some men see things as they are and say why – I dream things that never were and say why not.” - George Bernard Shaw
