IMPORTANT DATES for 2018 Contents
We ask your prayers for Emily & Jessica Heide, Grace Northam, Eloise Rowe and Danica Todoric who have had a family member pass away recently. God of love the Heide Northam, Rowe and Todoric families who have known the time for planting, for laughing and for dancing. The joys of happier days can never be taken from them. Let those joys soften the pain of their suffering now. We ask this through Jesus and his mother, Mary. Amen.

2 MARYMOUNT COLLEGE | HOSPITALITY | COMPASSION | STEWARDSHIP | RECONCILIATION
As we come to the end of another year I take this opportunity to thank all students, families and staff for the contributions you have made to Marymount College in 2017.
To the parents and friends of the College who have supported the work of students and staff and to those who have generously given their time in volunteering, I say a huge thank you! We really couldn’t do what we do at Marymount with the support of families and friends.
I especially acknowledge the Marymount College staff and thank them for supporting and guiding all learners during 2017. The teaching and ESO staff are a very dedicated group of professionals who really live out the vocation of working with young people!
I thank each learner at Marymount for the contributions they have made to the College this year. A tremendous amount of learning, along with an enormous range of activities beyond the classroom, have taken place this year and I congratulate you all on your efforts in building the community at Marymount.
To our Year 9 students and those from other year levels who have completed their time at Marymount, on behalf of the entire
community, I wish you well as you begin new chapters in your educational journey.
On a personal note, I finish my time at Marymount at the end of this year. I thank all those who have made my time at Marymount so rewarding, walking with the community in a time of significant change has been a privilege. Next year I will be heading to Sacred Heart Middle as Assistant to the Principal, Champagnat Project and will continue to work in partnership with all at Marymount Campus and Sacred Heart as we further transition to Champagnat Campus in 2019.
Kate Kilpatrick will begin as Head of Marymount Campus at the beginning of 2018 and will join Kate Bawden, Liz Stewart and Belinda D’Agostino on the Campus Leadership Team. I can assure you the Campus will be in strong and very capable hands next year!
As we head towards Christmas and the summer holidays, I wish you every blessing now and always.

3RECONCILIATION.. . MERCY IGNITES THE TENDERNESS OF OUR HEART
As we head into the last few days of the school year it is a time of mixed emotions, particularly for our Year 9 students. It is also a time of many celebrations as a community.
Last Thursday we celebrated with our Good Samaritan Mass acknowledging the charisms of our College and how they are reflected daily through the actions of our students.
Yesterday we held a Whole School Farewell Assembly for the Year 9 students. The Year 9 Academic Awards and Garry Martin Performing Arts Award were presented. We also had the handover ceremony between the 2017 MLG students to the 2018 MLG students. We thank the current MLG for their dedication, enthusiasm, commitment and leadership they have demonstrated throughout this year - thank you! I would especially like to thank the Marymount Captains, Sophie McGlaughlin and Ella Maisey for leading and representing the students throughout the year at many events - you did an outstanding job! We look forward to the next group building on the leadership skills and capabilities. Our 2018 Marymount Captains, Rose Miller and Aylish Marshall, will lead their first assembly tomorrow, when we celebrate the End of Year for the Year 6-8 students and present the Academic Awards.
Thank you to the staff who are leaving us at the end of the year for their commitment and dedication to our students at Marymount. We wish the following staff all the best in the future: Jenny Good, Amy Schaefer, Patrick Sorrentino, Rose Dunn and Alice Dunlop. All the best also to Darren Elliott who will be taking leave in 2018.
On behalf of the Marymount College Community, I would like to wish Shana Bennett all the best as she leaves Marymount at the end of the year. I thank her for her leadership, vision and commitment to our College over the past year.
Finally, may all families have a safe and enjoyable holiday. May the joy of Christmas allow you to feel the presence of the Christ child in your life.

AdventThe season of Advent is upon us. The season invites us not only to commemorate Jesus’ humble arrival in history, in a manger, but also helps us to deepen our sense of wonder in the mystery of Christ’s abiding presence in our day to day lives, all the while anticipating the majesty of His final glorious coming.
Advent is a time for recognising the presence of God – in history, in our midst today and in eternity. The Kingdom of God is already among us: we look back with gratitude to the birth of Christ; we

Touch FootballBy Isabel Ellul, a player in the Marymount Championship Team
On the 1st of November, the Marymount year 6 and 7’s participated in the SACPSSA Touch Football Carnival. Marymount had 11 awesome teams, 1 of them being the Marymount Championship team. The championship team had a few training sessions to work on their techniques and fast play to see if they could win the whole Carnival and represent Marymount. Marymount was booming when they found out that the Championship team had won all their games and made it to the big Grand Final against Cabra! It was a very hard game for the Marymount Championship team. Cabra was quick, had fast plays and excellent technique, but the Marymount team had all of that and more. Marymount fought and fought until the siren went off and the whilstle blew. Marymount had won against Cabra! Congratulations to the Marymount team and coach! You were amazing and made all of Marymount proud! The Carnival bought arymount exciting wins, accepting losses, injuries and a fun day overall. It was great experience for everyone and taught us to have good sportsmanship, the rules of Touch Football and a great team spirit.
FOCUS
Market DayBy Emily Brookes
This term in Economics and Business we have been learning about concepts such as needs, wants, profit, loss, goods, services and how to create and run a business. As part of Year 6 Market Days, we were given the opportunity to practise our business skills by coming up with an idea for a product to sell to the staff and students of Marymount College. We worked in small groups and had to decide on a business name, an advertisement, the prices for our products and we had to work out whether we would make a profit. We also had to write a letter to our families asking them to be investors in our business. Each class had 1 lunchtime to set up a stall and sell their products. Stalls included ice cream, cookies, cupcakes, milkshakes, popcorn and succulents. 20% off stall profits were donated to Catholic Charities.
DanceDance has been a great experience. Learning new techniques and skills has been fun. At least each person from each lesson has learnt a different move. Miss Tilley has taught us a whole range of dances, from social dances to making one up on the spot! Some lessons the class went off into groups and made up their own dances to a particular song. Dance has moved me out of my comfort zone but I loved doing it!Chanel Exton
In dance, we have covered lots of types of dance. We have created our own dances in groups, followed a routine and learned different types of dance. We did dances to “Singing in the Rain”, “Incy Wincy Spider,” “Shake it off” “Party in the USA,” “praying” and more. I have learned lots and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I can’t wait to do it next year as well.Stella Foote
Doing dance this term has been great and I have enjoyed learning all the techniques and styles such as contemporary. My favourite dance we have done so far is the one where we got to create a social dance and teach it to the class. I have never done dance before and I thought the way Miss Tilley taught us was an easy and fun way to learn. Dance has been my favourite PE unit we’ve done this year because it offered all different kinds of styles.Jade Collier
In dance this semester, we have learnt different ways to dance and heaps of different styles. We got to work with different people and make dances to a classic “Singing in the Rain” and used different steps to make a dance that we interpreted in our groups. I enjoyed learning the dances that Miss Tilley taught us. We did a contemporary dance to “Praying and an upbeat dance to “Party in the U.S.A.” It was definitely my most favourite PE lesson ever. Isabeau Bottroff
In Term 4 we participated in Dance. It was really enjoyable because we got to make up our own dances. Later on is the term we copied Miss Tilley’s moves to different songs. I thought Miss Tilley was really good at making the moves up on the spot. We all had a lot of fun dancing and once we had completed the dance we recorded us dancing and we all watched the video and. I thought we were pretty good!Ruby Wellington

Activities DayOn the first of November when many of the year 6’s and 7’s went to the Touch Football Carnival the Year 6’s not participating stayed at school and had an activities day. On this day we had art and sport and most of us had fun at both. In sport we did a combination of both table tennis and badminton. We played against each other in partners and at the end the pair with the most wins got a small chocolate. In art we made an indigenous art poster featuring animals. I found this activity very fun and interesting as we learnt about different aboriginal symbols and how to draw them. Overall it was a good day and gave some people a chance to go outside their normal friend groups.
Looking back, Looking forward…As the end of the year is nearing, many students are filling with excitement as the holidays are getting closer. Throughout this year students from all year levels have achieved phenomenal goals. For instance the MLG have organised many activities to help our community and our school. They have really tried their best to improve our school and our community and I believe most people would agree they have. Also, many students this year have received academic and commendation awards for their outstanding hard work they do. Our Class Captains and House Representatives have really done an amazing job at leading and maintaining our classes and students. Also, the cooperation through each activity that has been organised for the school students to participate in has been great. All of the students have shown great enthusiasm for
all the activities. Although the end of the year is ending we all know that everyone will be taking a memory from some part of this year that makes them happy. Although we encourage each other to always remember this great year, it is also important that we keep looking forward for the exciting new things that await 2018. As the title says ‘looking back, looking forward’.Tigerlily Santry
This year was a great first year at Marymount, I had the best year ever. I made lots of new friends and I am ready to make new friends in 2018! I found that iPads were a great way of learning but I am so excited to have chrome books. I am really looking forward to meeting all the Year 7 teachers and all the new Year 6 students for 2018. I am prepared and ready for all the things that 2018 throws at me!!!!Tysa Miles
My first year at Marymount was great! On the first day I was really nervous. At my old school, Stella Maris, I knew everyone so it was really nerve racking knowing that I only knew some of the students. When the day ended I wasn’t nervous anymore because Marymount is such of a welcoming community and I made lots of new friends. Some of my favourite parts of the year have been Rainbow Day, Reflection Day, Sports Day and my favourite out of all things was Market Day because I love to have fun with my friends and learn at the same time. Next year I am especially looking forward to the trip to Canberra because I have never been to Canberra before and it will be the first time I go out of South Australia without my parents. I think next year will be a great year in Year 7.Ava Tan

Cadets End of Year ParadeThe Sacred Heart College Cadet Unit presented their End of Year Ceremonial Parade at Marymount College on Saturday, 25 November.
The all-girls cadet unit began in May of this year and consists of Yr8/9 students from Marymount College. With the approaching amalgamation of Marymount and Sacred Heart College, the unit has taken on the official title of 431 ACU Sacred Heart College.

The nine Marymount College cadets were joined by cadets from other South Australian units for the End of Year Parade, including 413 Pipes and Drums.
After much practice, the marching and drill display from the cadets was excellent on the day.
The Reviewing Officer for the parade was LT COL (Retd) Bill Denny AM BM, an old scholar of SHC and the current Vice President of the RSL in SA.
Also present was Steve Byrne, SHC Principal and Shana Bennett, Marymount Head of School.
Awards presented on the day were:
