TIM MALONE, PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

It is already April and we

still have much to

accomplish this school

year. We have state

testing, drama

productions, a visual art display, a blood drive,

French Night, the prom and much more. For dates

and times for the above mentioned events and

others please see the appropriate section of this

newsletter.

I want to thank all of the parents that helped with

our spaghetti dinner fundraiser. We raised almost

$3,000.00 for our students. Also, by the time you

receive this newsletter, we will have had our “Walk

for the Arts” fundraiser. Thank you for supporting

that fundraiser as well.

During the state testing window, which for us is

April 25th through May 13th, we need to make sure

that all of our 7th, 8th, and 11th grade students get

plenty of rest and attend each day.

All of our 12th grade students who have a 3.0 or

above GPA are eligible for a $500 senior scholarship

from our PTSA. There will be six of these

scholarships available. Please see Bonny for more

information. The deadline is April 29th. Thank you

PTSA for making these scholarships available.

I know I am biased but I do believe that MCAA has

the best, most involved parents, students, and staff

in the district. I appreciate all that you do for our

school.

Sincerely,

Tim Malone

Note from Ms. Atkins and VOLUNTEER REQUESTS

Hello:

Thanks to all involved in the recent and forthcoming productions. They were and promise to be very entertaining and wonderful public testaments to the value of an arts education. I know how much work was entailed for students and parents and am a grateful admirer. An update on our promising students in academic classes.

Students of English 12 and AP had the opportunity to attend a performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in Sacramento. It was delightful and they felt well prepared for the fast-and-loose of Shakespearean speech.

Latin students are preparing a chapter of Winnie the Pooh to be performed in Latin and English . An ancient Roman menu will accompany this event. Date to be announced. Parents of Latin students are invited.

Délices de France – our annual French Night- will take place on Friday May 6 at 7pm in the Auditorium. Students will perform a bilingual play, accompanied by performances of classical ballet and music. We will be cooking in the MHS kitchen on Thursday and Friday from 1:30 – 4 and are in need of parent volunteers, both for those times, and for the evening’s performance from 6 to 9, setting up tables on the stage, preparing food service , and monitoring during the performance.

Set prep would also be welcome. The setting is the interior of a small hotel. No scene changes.

Thank you in advance, all volunteers!

~Ms.Atkins

Hello MCAA Students and Parents,

Happy Spring! It’s hard to believe we are already more than half way through second semester. The Counseling Office has been busy with registration for next year’s classes. Any students who

missed out on this opportunity will be called in to make their selections. We have only entered course requests at this time so any students still needing to put in their requests haven’t missed out on anything, I promise! The schedule for next year will be finalized in the coming months using the information gathered through the course request process. Although there is no perfect schedule that allows all students to get every course they want, every effort will be made to limit conflicts whenever possible so students can get as many of the courses they need/want. If you have any questions about your student’s schedule for next year, please feel free to contact me.

The deadline is just around the corner for those seniors who plan to attend a 4-year university to submit their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). Even though students are often faced with difficult decisions when trying to determine where to go, they must meet all university deadlines in order to continue to be eligible. Most colleges require students to submit a SIR by May 1st. Any students planning to attend community college in the fall who need assistance with the enrollment process should stop by the Counseling Office for help.

Reminder: Juniors who plan to attend a 4-year university directly after high school should consider taking the SAT or ACT this spring. Remaining test dates are May 7th and June 4th for the SAT and June 11th for the ACT. Students can register online at www.collegeboard.org (SAT) or www.actstudent.org (ACT). Any students who qualify for free/reduced lunch can also qualify for two free fee waivers to take either test. See me for fee waivers or more information. Juniors should also be starting to seriously consider their options after high school. The application process for 4-year universities typically starts in the fall of senior year so students should have a good idea of where they want to apply when school begins in August. Research can be done online (www.csumentor.edu, www.universityofcalifornia.edu, www.bigfuture.collegeboard.org are some examples) or by visiting campuses in person.

With promotion just around the corner, 8th graders need to be aware of their grades. Students are required to have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 over all four quarters to be eligible to participate in the promotion ceremony. Now that 3rd quarter grades have posted I will once again be working with any students who are not currently meeting that requirement.

Any high school students interested in taking courses at Yuba College over the summer or during the fall should check the schedule of classes on the college’s website (yc.yccd.edu) to see what is being offered. An application must be completed and students interested in taking math or English need to take a placement exam. Additionally, students need paperwork from me. Students will be allowed to begin registering in early May. If you have questions about this process, please contact me.

And finally, congratulations to Rhiannon Diamond! She competed in the Marysville Rotary Speech contest last month and did a fantastic job!! She came in second place. Way to go Rae…you make MCAA proud!
