    FIERCELY PRACTICAL AND DETERMINEDLY ASPIRATIONAL,

    the Renewing Our Strength Strategic Plan or Maryville College

    was approved by the Board o Directors on Oct. 18, 2012, and

    provides a vision or its bicentennial in 2019. The two major goals

    or this period are achieving fnancial stability and ensuring a vitalacademic program that is relevant in its time and place. These goals

    are undamental to Maryville College continuing to accomplish its

    mission to prepare students or lives o citizenship and leadership.

    Connecting the Maryville College o yesterday, today and tomorrow,

    this plan reafrms the Colleges belie in the liberal arts as a distinctiveand successul approach to education, the Colleges commitment to

    aith and learning, and the Colleges desire to embrace change. One

    guiding purpose in this plan is that, in 2019, Isaac Anderson would

    both recognize and approve o the College he ounded.

    From 2013 to 2019, Maryville College will ocus on ostering theholistic personal development and proessional preparation o its

    students in a church-related, residential liberal arts setting.

    SUSTAINABLE INSTITUTIONjoining the liberal artsand proessional preparation in partnership with others.

    In 2019, MaryvIlle CollegewIlldeMonstratesustaInabIlItyIn

    Financial sustainability goals include:

    Serving a student body o 1,300 and reporting a reshman-to-sophomoreretention rate o at least 80 percent and a 5-year graduation rate o at

    least 60 percent.

    Growing the endowment to a minimum o $80 million.

    Raising $1.5 million annually or the Maryville Fund and increasing, by10 percent, the number o donors rom all constituencies.

    Establishing a Capital Projects Fund that will provide or ongoingmaintenance and contribute to uture construction.

    Environmental sustainability goals include:

    Implementing sustainableenvironmental practices thatwill lead to decreased energy

    use and increased health o

    the College Woods.

    Implementing a acilities lie cycle planand integrated campus master plan that

    will determine priorities and allow or

    ull utilization o acilities.

    Vibrant institutional life goals include:

    Oering compensation packages or aculty and sta that are consistentwith appropriate regional and national norms.

    Funding proessional development opportunities or aculty and sta thatwill enable them to grow as experts and develop new knowledge andskills in their areas o teaching and work.

    Increasing the diversity o the Colleges aculty, sta and student body soas to expose the entire campus community to a variety o perspectives.

    Encouraging healthy work-lie balance and regular physical activityamong the aculty, sta and students.

    In April 2013, Craword House

    was awarded LEED Gold

    certifcation rom the U.S. Green

    Building Council.The house, constructed

    in 1876 or proessor

    Gideon Craword,

    underwent numerous

    improvements in

    pursuit o LEED, including

    the installation o low-E storm

    windows, efcient HVAC units,soy-based oam insulation and a

    12-panel solar array.

    Enhancing and expanding

    international experiences and improving their accessibility to students.

    Providing modern and appropriateacilities and equipment that will support

    innovative and relevant curricular and

    co-curricular programs.

    Supporting an intercollegiate athleticsprogram that maintains the highest

    standards o competition while ostering

    a balance between in-classroom and on-

    feld achievements.

    In 2013, college administrators

    announced the plans or Maryville

    College Works, an initiative

    that will require every student to

    complete a signifcant, practical

    experience beore graduation.

    Engaging alumni, riends, oundations and corporations to strengthenphilanthropic support to improve teaching, learning and acilities.

    Developing meaningul relationships with the Presbyterian Church(USA) and other aith communities that present a distinctive model o

    a church-related college serving a religiously pluralistic student body.

    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

    says, among other things, that the

    College is an institution which preparesstudents or a world o uncertainty and

    accelerating change. When the Board

    o Directors adopted this strategic plan

    in October 2012, members were ocused

    on this very important part o the

    Colleges mission. With the strategic

    plan at its oundation, the Queen

    o all the highlands will be better

    equipped to successully prepare

    its students or such an ever-

    changing world. And that is a

    very good thing.
