Malaria kills one child every 60 seconds and upwards of 1 million people a year, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Malaria is preventable and treatable. Together, we can make a life-saving difference. Half of the world’s population is at risk for malaria. It takes just one mosquito to destroy livelihoods, health and hope of entire families and communities. By helping to provide treatment and resources for education and prevention, Lutherans can make a monumental difference in the global fight against malaria.

We will host an event at home to raise money for a congregational donation to this cause, prior to our going to the NYG

Information on Trip P articipation/Fund raising 1) As an active member of St. Paul’s Youth I will be in regular attendance to the scheduled

activities of my group including Time to Grow, Sunday Night Alive, service projects and worship services. I understand that by fulfilling this obligation I will be eligible to participate in mission trips as well as Regional/National gatherings. It is encouraged that youth participate in at least 50% of all scheduled activities. Attendance will be taken and tracked. a) The purpose of this requirement is for the youth’s benefit. When a youth just “drops in” to the NYG, they do not

have a relationship with the rest of the youth, and therefore feel isolated, and the outcome of the trip is not what they or their parents expected.

2) As an active member of St. Paul’s Youth I will participate in group fundraising activities to

earn monies towards the NYG. Earnings will be posted on a monthly basis. 90% of the money earned at each event will be split among those that serve, 10% will return to the Board of Youth savings account to be used for weekly programing expenses, assistance for adult mentors attending the NYG, and scholarships for needy families to the NYG .

a) Youth must work at least 1 hour of the event for credit toward earnings. Parents can get credit for work rendered on

behalf of their youth. b) Note: Monies earned will not cover the entire cost of major trips; families will be personally responsible for any

short-fall in costs. c) Families with more than one youth in the program can request specific assignment of funds between their children. Funds will

remain for youth until their 21th birthday, to allow for them to attend the national gatherings. Parents can then transfer left-over funds to younger youth, or request it be saved in the family name for children who will be coming into the program in future years. Any money left after all children are grown, will return to the general Board of Youth savings account. Families cannot ask for a cash refund.

d) NOTE: It is important that ALL youth participate in fund raisers, regardless of their need for raising personal funds. (See 1:a, above). If the youth and family would prefer to donate their youth’s hours back to the general youth savings account, this will be used by the discretion of the Youth Board to determine the needs of individuals for scholarships).

3) Personal fund raising by youth and their families:

a) NOTE: Any funds deposited in the youth account are NOT refundable as cash to the youth or family. (see 2:c above) b) When families earn money that they wish to deposit into their Youth NYG account, an individual account will be started

for them, rather than continuing on the general spreadsheet. c) Youth who may have a personal benefactor (for example a grandma who would like to donate toward their grandchild’s

trip). The benefactor should write a check to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, and put the child’s name and NYG in the Memo. The check should be put in an envelope, and directed to Mr. Ben Mueller. These funds will then be put on the individual tracking sheet.

d) Any personal fund raisers that would involve members of the congregation or school must be first approved by the Board of Youth, the Board of Stewardship, and the Board of Education. Coordination of calendars and other events must be considered, prior to approval. A minimum of 3 months advance notice is necessary to achieve all approvals.

e) Families can sign-up for TTG dinners to earn money. This money will then be put into the individual youth account. NO money can be taken home after the event.

f) If youth earn money on their own (babysitting, gardening, PT jobs, wreath sales, etc. that they would like to add to their youth account, they can do so in the same way a benefactor would deposit funds.

4) Disclaimer: The Board of Youth track hours worked and funds received for savings. However, the youth/family is ultimately

responsible for keeping their own records. Discrepancies must be reported within one month of a new spreadsheet being posted on the Youth Board. Information on new spreadsheet posting is available in the weekly ACT bulletin in the Church bulletin & ACT website.

We understand and agree with these policies: _________________________________________Parent Print Name _____________________________Youth print name _________________________________Youth print name ____________________________ Parent signature ______________date.

A copy of this form is in a bin at the Youth bulletin Board. It needs to be completed, with the $25 deposit
