Dear Parishioners, On this Second Sunday of Lent, St. Mark’s Gospel presents to us the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus (9:2-10). Jesus’ true identity as God is revealed to embolden the faith of Peter, James and John so that when He would suffer the cruel ignominy of the Cross, they would not be undone by the scandal of it. The reality of sin rages in the world and it is easy give into despair because of it. Let us keep our eyes of faith fixed firmly upon Jesus who will walk us through the dark valley of sin into the bright light of His Kingdom. Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s Lenten Mission presented by Ken Yasinski. Ken offered a beautiful witness to the power of faith to which allows us to understand our purpose in life. We are to know, love and serve the Lord in this life and be found with Him in the next. By making daily decisions to live honestly in His grace, we allow the Holy Spirit to act in and through us. Let us take the graces of the mission and apply them to our Lenten observances. Our prayers go with Ken as he continues his full-time ministry of evangelization. Thank you to those who assisted at the mission with hospitality and those who made financial donations to make it possible. During the season of Lent, the front cover of the bulletin is depicting the Sunday Gospel scene imagined and drawn by students in our faith formation program. The children were excited to share their talents while learning about the life of Jesus depicted by St. Mark. This catechetical endeavor of inviting the children to engage with the Biblical narrative and to express that through their artwork is an attempt to allow many levels of connection to take place. The children have immersed themselves in the story and made it their own by their creativity. As adults, you and I can use it as a thread to draw us into their lives and to reimagine the Gospel from the simplicity of their perspective. In reflection, perhaps we can ask of ourselves, “How am I using my gifts and talents to express and make real the Gospel story in my daily life?” As our Lenten season progresses, I encourage you to consider coming to daily Mass, spending some time in Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesdays, sharing the Sunday readings on Wednesdays at Soup and Scripture, and praying the Stations of the Cross with the community on Fridays. These and other acts of service and almsgiving will allow the Holy Spirit to truly work in our lives to make us different and to make us holy. This week I will join Catholics from around the state in Tallahassee for Catholic Days at the Capitol, an annual gathering for advocacy and prayer. As Catholics we understand a moral obligation to participate in the public life of our society. It is important that we bring the values of the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus into dialogue with others of good will. Please pray for our legislators, bishops, the clergy and lay faithful who will be participating. As a result, there will not be a Gospel of St. Mark Bible Study this Tuesday, March 3. The study will resume Tuesday, March 10 at 12:30 p.m. God’s blessings to you and your families. – Father Kovanis

FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY Coffee and Donuts are available after all Masses

this Sunday in the Conesa Center. Hosted by

Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

In anticipation of the 2015 World Meeting of Families conference in Philadelphia, “The Family Fully Alive,” Prince of Peace will host family-affirming events each month. Each month’s theme is from the Preparatory Catechesis written by the US Bishops. For more information, visit http://www.worldmeeting2015.org/get-involved/prepare-parish/

We hope you will join us in preparing for this special event and in affirming the Church’s teachings of family.

March – Creating the Future

Stations of the Cross of the Family: This month’s theme of “Creating the Future” entails reflection of the issues our families face as we look forward to future generations. With excerpts from the book The Stations of the Cross and their Relation to Family Life, by Joseph A. Breig, as our guide, we will partake in this familiar devotional with a unique twist. Tuesday, March 23, 9:00 a.m. , Conesa Center

April – All Love Bears Fruit

“The Not-so-Newlywed Game”: How well do you know your spouse? Come and participate in our trivia game based on the popular TV show. Tuesday, 4/14, 9:00 a.m. Room 1.

Coffee and Conversation – Stewardship: Whether married, single, or widowed, ALL love bears fruit. Stewardship is one way we can be fruitful in our own lives. Often, the concept of stewardship is reduced to simply giving money, but it is so much more than that – it is a way of life. Join our discussion on recognizing the blessings in your life and how you can give back to the Lord in your own personal way in order to fulfill your call to “be fruitful.” Thursday, April 30, 9:00 a.m. Room 1.

May – Light in a Dark World: The gospel writer John writes, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” We as Christians are called to let our light shine and be a light to others, so that others may come to know Christ through us.

“The Rosary for the Family”: On the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, let us pray for Our Lady’s intercession to protect the integrity of the family and its role as a light in the world. Wednesday, May 13, 2:30 p.m. in the church.
