PRAYER REQUEST FOR OUR BELOVED SICK

United with our Holy Father Pope Francis, let us pray in solidarity for our brothers

and sisters here and around the world who are sick. Let us pray for those who have lost loved ones to this virus. May God console them and grant them peace.

We pray also for doctors, nurses, and caregivers, for public health officials and all civic leaders. May God grant them courage and prudence as they seek to respond to this emergency with compassion and in service to the common good. In this time

of need, I invite all the faithful to seek together the maternal intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and I share this prayer with you:

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana. Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts. We come to you with confidence, knowing that you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy. Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen

PAGE 3 2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 19, 2020

Dear Parish Family,

Christ is risen... He is risen indeed! Jesus at least twice in the resurrec on account brings peace to his disciples. Today in the gospel Jesus says to them, “Peace be with

you.” Such repe on is deliberate. The resurrec on of Jesus gives us, his followers peace. We are no longer subject to the buffe ng winds of drama, challenge, anxiety, and turbulence. We may rest assured in the peace of Jesus, knowing that there is life eternal. God is faithful! Violence, lawlessness, and anxiety will not last. Instead, peace, love friendship, and self-gi are eternal. The resur-rec on of Jesus and his las ng presence among his disciples are all the proof we need. Once we experience him for ourselves, there is no longer room for doubt.

The peace of Christ con nues to be poured into us in our own me as we go through this pandemic, me of isola on, and social distancing. Jesus’ resurrec on is a sign of hope in the midst of the darkness because he stands to li us up and draw us to greater trust. The Second Sunday of Easter is also Divine Mercy Sunday. Here is this fairly recent devo on requested by Our Lord and revealed to his “Apostle of Mercy” St. Faus na in the 1930s. St. Pope John Paul II in his pon ficate promoted the spread of this devo on by wri ng, streaking and prac cing the message of Divine Mercy.

What then is the meaning of Divine "Mercy"? God's very nature is love (Jn 4:8): infinite, eternal, self-giving love among the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But "mercy" is the form that God's love takes when it overflows His divine life and pours out upon His creatures. This Divine Mercy is compassionate love - a love that seeks to meet the needs and relieve the miseries of others.

Recognizing our human weaknesses and sins, God is always ready to pour out His mercy upon us. We find this message echoing like a refrain throughout the Diary of St. Faus na when Jesus said to her:

“I am Love and Mercy itself (1074). My Heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners ... it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from my Heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy (367). Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet (699). My mercy is greater than your sins, and those of the en re world (1485). I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of mercy for you. Come then with trust to draw graces from this fountain (1485).”

FROM THE DESK OF FR. MARINELLO

Litany to The Divine Mercy:

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ, hear us. Christ, graciously hear us. God, the Father of heaven, have mercy on us. God, the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us. God, the Holy Spirit, have mercy on us. Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us. Divine Mercy, greatest attribute of God, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, unfathomable love of the Sanctifier, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, incomprehensible mystery of the Most Blessed Trinity, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, expression of the greatest might of God, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in creation of heavenly spirits, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in calling us forth from nothingness to existence, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, encompassing the whole universe, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, endowing us with immortal life, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, shielding us from deserved punishment, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, lifting us from the misery of sin, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, justifying us through the Person of the Incarnate Word, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, which flowed out from the wounds of Christ, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, gushing forth from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, giving us the Blessed Virgin Mary as Mother of Mercy, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in revealing the mysteries of God, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in the founding of the Holy Church, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in instituting the Holy Sacraments, we trust in You.

Divine Mercy, first of all in the sacraments of Baptism and Penance, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in the Holy Eucharist and the sacrament of Holy Orders, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in calling us to the holy faith, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in the conversion of sinners, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in sanctifying the just, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, in perfecting of the pious, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, fount of help for the sick and the suffering, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, sweet relief for anguished hearts, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, only hope of despairing souls, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, accompanying us in every moment of our life, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, anticipating our needs with graces, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, repose of the dying, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, heavenly delight of the saved, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, respite and relief of the souls in Purgatory, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, crown of All Saints, we trust in You. Divine Mercy, inexhaustible source of miracles, we trust in You. Lamb of God, who revealed the greatest mercy in redeeming the world by dying on the cross, spare us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who mercifully offers Yourself for our sake in every holy Mass, graciously hear us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who takes away our sins with inexhaustible compassion, have mercy on us.

V: The Mercy of God is above all His works.

R: Hence, we will praise The Divine Mercy forever and ever.

CONTINUATION... Let us pray:

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaus ble, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, King of mercy, who with You and the Holy Spirit shows us mercy now and forever. Amen.

I invite you and your family to pray the Litany to the Divine Mercy for our world and our church as we con nue to seek ways to relieve the suffering and misery of all. May every heart echo “Jesus I Trust in You. “

In His Merciful Heart,

-Fr. Marinello Saguin

Querida Familia Parroquial,

WE ARE HONORED TO CELEBRATE A MASS FOR YOUR SPECIAL INTENTIONS

The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic tradition. Masses are offered for many reasons: for the souls in purgatory, in remem-

brance of someone who is deceased, or in honor of a birthday.

If you would like to have a Mass said for someone, please call our parish office at (818) 342-4686 to request a Mass intention or email [email protected]

During this time that we experience “Stay at Home” orders due to Covid-19, Fr. Marinello continues to celebrate daily Mass in private and offers Mass for those intentions that have been requested. Below is our list
