First Reading: Isaiah 49:1-6 The prophet declares that he was called right from his mother’s womb. His mission is to preach to outsiders. His word is really the Lord’s.
Second Reading: Acts 13:22-26 This sermon of Paul’s includes a tribute to John the Baptist wherein he is described as Jesus’ herald, “proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all Israel.”
Gospel: Luke 1:57-66, 80 Both Elizabeth and Zechariah declare their son’s name in obedience to the angel. With his speech restored immediately after, Zechariah praises God. Luke prepares his readers for John’s future role by stating that the future saint became strong in the Spirit.
Dear Friends,
Today at Mass we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist. He was the forerunner and prophet of the Messiah. His birth an-nounces a new dawn for humanity for John will prepare the way for Jesus, the Christ. In this celebration we see the loving and providential hand of God moving in human history. He hears the cry of His people and will send His son to deliver them from fear. The preparations are all in place and few peo-ple realize it. Sometimes it is that way in our lives – God is there all the time, leading, guiding and caring. Today we are encouraged to recognize His presence and plan.
On behalf of the entire parish community, I welcome Father Manuel Flores as our new Parochial Vicar. As mentioned be-fore Father Flores was ordained by Archbishop Chaput on May 19 after completing his formation and studies at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. His diaconate assignment was at Sacred Heart in Oxford, PA. Please keep Father Flores in your prayers as he joins the parish community.
Thank you to everyone who assisted with Father Bob’s fare-well reception last Saturday evening in the gym. It was a great turn out and farewell for Father Bob. Please keep him in your prayers as he begins his ministry at Saint Helena’s.
A lot of people have been asking about the Church door situa-tion. Six doors need to be repaired including the obvious one that has been closed and blocked now for some time. The dif-ficulties we have been facing in getting these repaired deal with the age of the doors and getting replacement parts that would fit the structures. I am happy to announce that after several attempts that proved fruitless we found a company who can repair the doors. They should be finished in the next two weeks. Thank you for your patience during the past cou-ple months as we tried to resolve this problem. I apologize for any inconvenience the delay has caused.
Have a great week.
God bless,
Monsignor Prior

MARY’S CUPBOARD Mary’s Cupboard is a food pantry that provides food for individuals and families in emergency situations. The volunteer staff provides food to our clients in a confidential and caring environment. It is a great joy being a priest. You are able to be with the people of God in such a beautiful way. As a priest, you’re able to be with people during the happiest of moments such as weddings, and sometimes in the same day, in the saddest of moments such as losing a loved one. In both of these moments and every moment in between, the love of our Father in heaven is there. It is because we are the fami-ly of God.
In the seminary, we learned that the word “church”, when denoted by a lower case “c”, represents the building we gather in to worship. But when using the word with an upper case “C”, Church represents the family of God’s people. That is what I have grown to love the last four years. Not the building. But the people.
Thank you for welcoming me into the great worshiping com-munity at Our Lady of Grace. Please take care of Fr. Flores as he begins his ministry with you. Teach him, as you have taught me, the love of the Church.
Saint Paul in his letters is always giving thanks to God for the people he has visited and shared the Gospel with. I give thanks to God for all of you and pray that He May give you His grace and His peace.
-Fr. Bob
