First Sunday of Advent Sunday, November 27, 2016

“Where is God in all of this?”

As we begin this season of Advent, we are reminded to pay attention to how the Lord is present to us. We are called by the prophet Isaiah to climb to the top of the mountain and look for the Lord’s advent, Lord’s coming into our lives (Is 2: 1-5). Isaiah is calling us to rise above our daily worries, concerns and anxieties to be guided by He who is the Light of the World. If that means taking extra time in prayer, then we need to be praying. If that means making sure we go to the sacrament of reconciliation, then we need to celebrate the sacrament soon. If that means being more intentional in re-sponding to what the Lord is asking of us, then we need to be more inten-tional. The reality is that we cannot let the concerns of this world blind us from the Lord’s powerful presence. We must wake up and ask ourselves, “Where is God in all of this?” In the midst of the troubles, conflict or uncer-tainty we must take the time to ask, “Where is God in all of this?” When ex-periencing successes, peace or simple happiness we must ask, “Where is God in all of this?” In our normal everyday routines that we do without think-ing, we must continually ask, “Where is God in all of this?” Money only goes so far. Technology can only do so much. Medicines have a short shelve life. The many resources that we rely on; they will only get us so far. God, now He is an unlimited resource. The graces that he showers upon us in any giv-en moment are amazing. So let us throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light (Rm 13:11-14) by taking the time to ask, “Where is God in all of this?”

Ways to Celebrate Advent:

Illuminated Advent Rosary – November 27th – 1st Sunday of Advent – 5pm

Join us in the Rosary Garden as we pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary to mark the beginning of the Advent season, illuminating the garden as we pray. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served follow-ing in the Parish Hall. In case of inclement weather, we will pray the rosary in the Parish Hall.

Advent Movie Night Under the Stars – The Nativity Story (rated PG) - Sun-day, December 4th at 5pm

Bring your camp chairs and snacks as we watch The Nativity Story - a chronicle of the perilous journey of Mary and Joseph, who must travel from their home in Nazareth to Bethlehem, Joseph's ancestral home, to register for a census ordered by King Herod. It is a journey of over 100 miles, through treacherous ter-rain, made much more difficult by the fact that Mary will soon give birth to the Christ Child.

We will watch the movie under the stars near the red barn. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown in the Parish Hall. Popcorn and beverages will be provided.

Parishioners of all ages are invited to attend both events!

Children’s Christmas Choir: All children and youth are invited to join our Children’s Christmas Choir. The choir will sing at the 5:30pm Christmas Eve Mass on Saturday, December 24th. Prac-tice will be held on Sunday after-

noons, 12/11 and 12/18, from 4 -5pm in the church. Please encourage your child to partici-pate. This is a wonderful way to join in the celebra-tion of the birth of our Savior. Contact Stacy in the office for more information.
